Kia Motors Corp.’s new XCeed compact crossover will feature an optional 12.3-inch digital display, the first all-digital system the carmaker has offered in any model.

The 2020 XCeed will be the fourth variant of Kia’s Ceed range, joiningthe base five-door hatchback, sports wagon and the Proceed shooting brake model. Kia will publicly unveil the new crossover later this month.

Dubbed Supervision, the 12.3-inch instrument cluster integrates the traditional analog tachometer and speedometer with a digital infotainment unit. Other variants of the XCeed are fitted with either a 3.8-inch monochrome LCD infotainment unit or 4.2-inch color TFT LCD.

The new multi-function display is controlled via steering wheel buttons. Drivers can use them to choose turn-by-turn navigation directions, get vehicle and trip details, display audio information or manage phone calls.

The system also displays diagnostic alerts and the status of driver-assistance technologies. In addition, a driver monitoring system sends an alert if it detects signs of fatigue.

When the engine is switched off, a short graphic of the vehicle in motion is played along with a summary of the drive. The latter shows the time and distance driven, average fuel efficiency and the estimated remaining driving range before refueling is required.

Sales are due to launch in Europe and other markets later this year. There are no plans to sell the XCeed in the U.S., which is getting the new Seltos compact crossover instead.

Frankfurt, 7May 2020– Kia today reveals details of the cutting-edge Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM) technology included with the new Kia Sorento SUV. This ‘second pair of eyes’ for drivers is designed to enhance safety for Sorento occupants and other road users by eliminating a driver’s left- and right-side blind spots.

The Sorento is the first Kia vehicle in Europe to offer this advanced driving assistance feature, one of a range of functions enabled by the car’s new fully-digital ‘Supervision’ 12.3-inch instrument cluster. BVM enhances drivers’ vision either side of the car when driving on a highway, and is linked with the car’s turn signal.

It displays a high-resolution video feed on the left or right side of the TFT-LCD instrument cluster if the driver indicates to change lane with another vehicle hidden in their blind spot. The video of the blind spot briefly takes the place of either the speedometer or tachometer dial display (or the hybrid system gauge in Sorento Hybrid models), while still showing the driver the vehicle’s current speed. The video feed comes from discreet wide-angle, high-resolution cameras, one hidden in each of the door mirror housings. These provide a wider viewing angle than the mirrors themselves to give drivers a clear view of the other vehicle.

Kia’s BVM technology is offered to European Sorento buyers as part of a package which includes a Surround View Monitor and Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA), making low-speed parking manoeuvres as safe and easy as possible, as well as a Bose Performance Series audio system. This package of technologies is available on European vehicles equipped with Kia’s Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) function. BCA helps drivers avoid colliding with vehicles in their blind spot and intervenes if it detects an impending crash.

11 June 2019– The new Kia XCeed urban crossover will be available with Kia’s first fully-digital 12.3-inch Supervision driver instrument cluster when it is launched across Europe later this year. Due to be fully revealed on 26 June 2019, the high-tech Kia XCeed will be one of the most technologically advanced compact cars when it goes on-sale.

Emilio Herrera, Chief Operating Officer at Kia Motors Europe, comments: “Our new Supervision digital instrument cluster is one of a number of optional new technologies that will be available with the Kia XCeed. Boasting a wide range of features, particularly on higher-specification models, this cluster will play an important role in displaying critical information to the driver in a clear, unobtrusive way. It will be adapted for other Kia models in future, as we seek new ways to display useful and critical information to drivers on-the-move.”

The Kia XCeed’s new 12.3-inch Supervision instrument cluster is designed to deliver information as clearly as possible. With a high-resolution 1920x720-pixel display, the digital cluster replaces the conventional speedometer and tachometer dials found currently in the brand’s passenger cars. Its single, seamless display incorporates pin-sharp digital dials for vehicle and engine speeds, with a fast frame-rate enabling it to react quickly and smoothly to instructions and inputs from the driver.

Between the two digital dials is a multi-function display, controlled via the multi-function steering wheel. In this portion of the cluster drivers can see turn-by-turn navigation instructions clearly in their line of sight, as well as audio information, phone calls and contacts, and in-depth trip information. This includes live and average fuel efficiency levels. The system also also displays vehicle diagnostics alerts, and enables pop-up notifications linked to the car’s various active safety and driver assist technologies and live traffic and navigation system. The multi-function central display also shows cues from the car’s Driver Attention Warning system, advising drivers to take a break if it detects signs of fatigue.

When the driver parks and switches off the car, the new cluster also plays a short graphic of the car in motion, and displays a summary of the drive. This shows the time and distance driven, the average fuel efficiency achieved, and the estimated distance remaining based on current fuel levels.

The new Supervision instrument cluster is available as an option in the new Kia XCeed, depending on market and vehicle specification. It replaces the physical dials and 3.8-inch mono-LCD or 4.2-inch colour TFT LCD screens available with different specifications of vehicle.

Like other models in the Ceed range, certain variants of the Kia XCeed line-up will be offered with a Drive Mode Select system. Drivers can tailor the vehicle’s handling and performance characteristics for different driving conditions, with Normal and Sport modes each adapting the car’s steering, transmission and throttle responses.

The new Supervision digital instrument cluster adapts to each mode accordingly with a range of differentiated graphics. By switching to a different drive mode, the instrument cluster displays more detailed information relating to each mode. In Normal, the display provides live fuel-efficiency gauges and traditional dials for vehicle and engine speeds, as well as additional trip information. Putting the car in Sport mode, the system offers a more prominent display of vehicle and engine speeds, with a larger, clearer read-out of the car’s current speed and engine RPM. Non-essential information is hidden away in Sport mode, minimising visual distractions.

In developing the digital instrument cluster, Kia is proofing its in-car technology against future technological developments. Digital clusters are a key component for handling data and displaying information from a variety of sources, and the new system means Kia is well-placed to incorporate future cutting-edge safety and powertrain technologies in its in-car displays.

For instance, the cluster’s graphics capabilities make it ideal for displaying immersive information relating to the electrified powertrains found in an increasing number of Kia vehicles. The digital instrument cluster will be adapted in future to display eco gauges, drive mode and trip information, and even a display of the flow of energy between batteries and electric motors. The digital display will also provide a unique visual link to the Eco driving mode found in certain models. Kia’s new instrument cluster will be introduced to other mild-hybrid, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles in future.

Relaxing, agile, responsive and breathtakingly elegant, Stinger is the sublime five-door performance car that blends the highest calibre of engineering with the craft and beauty of the artisan’s work.

An eye catching car is all about proportion and the right balance. With its unique fastback appearance, the new Stinger masters this effortlessly with its long bonnet with short front overhang and a low-slung cabin.

New factory fitted bi-modal exhaust system sings as you plant your foot to the pedal while the large chrome coated quad exhaust tips leaves no doubt of the untapped potential within.

Refreshed rear LED combination lights now span across the full width of the vehicle seamlessly for a distinctive new look. Above it lies the arched integrated spoiler adding a stunning finale to the Stinger silhouette.

The harman / kardon® sound system comes with 15 speakers including under-seat subwoofers and advanced QuantumLogic™ Surround technology. Transform your cabin into a dynamic concert hall as your favourite music is given new life.

Beautiful by day, the Stinger cabin grows even more captivating when night falls. The available 64-colour LED ambient lighting lets you create a unique atmosphere to suit your style and mood.

Intelligent Speed Limit Assist* (ISLA) system is a driver assistance technology that detects speed signs through the front view camera. Information is displayed on the instrument cluster and if equipped, the head-up display (available on GT and GT-Line grades). The recognised speed can then be used to set the Speed Limiter or Smart Cruise Control by confirming the speed limit.

Get vital driving information – and see what’s coming – with the Head-Up Display. Navigation guidance, collision warning, vehicle speed and speed limits are projected directly on the windshield, so you can look ahead while keeping your eyes on the road.

The 7-inch TFT LCD in the supervision cluster provides a choice of data essentials – from average fuel economy to turn-by-turn navigation information.

Enter and start the car with a push of a button without taking your key out with the Smart Key. In addition, pre-start your car remotely to have it cooled or heated perfectly before you step in with the Remote Start.

The rear lifts to reveal a broad opening with 406 litres of cargo capacity, making it easier to load wide objects or arrange cargo. The rear seatbacks split and fold 60:40, giving you 1,114 litres of cargo capacity and several options for accommodating longer items.

Smart Power Tailgate with height adjustment allows you to open the boot automatically when your hands are full to a predetermined height just for you.

While the aerodynamic aspects of the silhouette are plain to see, the Stinger also boasts vital drag reduction features that improve airflow underneath the car. It uses specially designed undercovers, below the engine and transmission, each side of the cabin and each side of the rear suspension. These covers reduce the air flow resistance on the underside of the body when travelling at higher speeds.

A hallmark of performance cars, the Stinger is equipped with a Limited Slip Differential (LSD) designed to maximise traction at the rear wheels. The result is enhanced grip and stability, especially in high-speed cornering.

The Stinger’s electronically controlled suspension adjusts the damping force in real time by monitoring the speed of the car and the vehicle dynamics. The aim is ultimate stability and high levels of comfort for the perfect ride quality.

Our engineers put the Stinger to its limits on the iconic Nürburgring race track in Germany to ensure its dynamic performance is innate in every vehicle.

To deliver exceptional large sports sedan handling with innate comfort and dependability, Stinger was subjected to a localisation and tuning program, over thousands of kilometres across urban, country and outback roads.

The Stinger endured months of frozen lake testing in sub-zero temperatures and icy conditions of northern Sweden. Extreme weather testing ensures the gran turismo-inspired handling and the engaging, fun-to-drive character of a rear-wheel drive sport sedan remain in all conditions.

Linked with turn signal operation, this system uses wide-angle surround view cameras located on the side mirrors of the vehicle to provide a video image of blind spots on the 7” supervision cluster.

When reversing out of a parking spot or driveway, this system will warn you if it detects any incoming traffic in either direction behind the vehicle and also apply the brakes to help reduce the risk of collision.

When parked or stopped, Safe Exit Warning will detect and warn you of approaching vehicles coming up from behind on either side, alerting occupants with a sound and visual warning if they attempt to open the door into oncoming traffic.

When a lane marker or road edge departure is detected, the Lane Keep Assist (LKA) system automatically assists with steering to help prevent the vehicle leaving the lane.

Lane Following Assist (LFA) uses the front view camera to determine positioning within the Lane and assist the driver to keep the vehicle centred within the lane.

Using radar and camera data, the AEB system senses the potential for a collision with a pedestrian, car or cyclist ahead, and applies emergency braking to avoid or reduce the effects of a collision.

When making a right turn across an intersection, the AEB system will detect potential oncoming traffic and automatically apply to brakes to prevent or reduce the affects of a possible collision.

Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist (BCA) combines Blind Spot Detection with Electronic Stability Control to help prevent the vehicle from colliding into vehicles in the adjacent lane or coming from behind when the driver switches lanes.

The Rear Occupant Alert (ROA) system reminds the driver to check the rear seats to prevent children, pets or objects being left behind accidentally by remembering the history of the rear doors being opened & closed.

Benefit from a bird"s eye view of the space around your Stinger while parking thanks to the 360° Camera View with three wide-angle images from cameras at the rear and sides.
