We recently ordered this along with our cabinet mod kit upgrades. I was a little hesitant to get this widescreen monitor because, even though it is larger than our originally installed monitor, our cabinet had featured portrait-oriented games like Ms. Pac-man and Dig-dug. So, with this monitor I knew we’d be losing a little bit of vertical real estate. However, since the majority of games that are on the 6,000 game upgrade are widescreen, my kids talked me into this. I’m really glad we went with it after all. Sure, a handful of the oldest arcade games are smaller than with our previously vertical-oriented screen, but we used the ArcadeModUp suggestion and added the marquee graphics on the side and that adds so much to the experience. And, it goes without saying, all the horizontally-oriented games (which are the vast majority) look INFINITELY better on this larger screen. The quality of the image is extremely good as well. Extremely satisfied with our purchase. Thanks so much!

Enlarge / Say hello to the Arcade1Up Attack From Mars physical pinball cabinet. The chassis is physical; its games are all virtual. Read below to understand what the heck that means.

I"ve wondered how long it would take for that to change in the gaming-nostalgia market, especially as companies like Arcade1Up produce and sell more multicade cabinets for home use. The time for change is now, evidently, thanks to a handful of manufacturers producing pinball multicades. Arcade1Up in particular launched three distinct pinball emulation cabinets this year, each revolving around a different license.

The Arcade1Up pinball system is largely the same across all three models released this year. Most of the physical cabinet is preassembled inside its box, and finishing the construction—which resembles a classic pinball machine, complete with buttons and a plunger—is simple enough with a standard screwdriver. The biggest catch will be getting the cabinet"s biggest, heaviest piece through doors or over stairs. This portion measures 34 inches long, 17 inches wide, and 16.5 inches tall. (Luckily, you can unscrew this base chunk in a pinch.)

Once fully built, this cabinet"s tallest backplate gets up to 60 inches in height, while the default legs bring the flippers up 35 inches from the floor. These include twistable feet that you can adjust to even out the set"s balance. At roughly 65 percent the size of a standard pinball cabinet, the Arcade1Up version will more likely fit in your favorite playroom, though it looks better in isolation rather than sitting next to an official table of the era. Peek over the fake coin doors, and you"ll quickly see where Arcade1Up"s system differs hugely from the real thing: a 24-inch LCD panel, offset by a significant bezel all around (wood on top and bottom, aluminum on the left and right). Beneath the screen, Arcade1Up relies on an Android-fueled SoC, which pumps a 720p video signal to the screen, along with an analog receiver for the plunger, an accelerometer to sense your real-life "tilts," and four solenoids that thump along with your gameplay. Two of them are positioned near the flipper buttons to replicate the sense of striking a pinball, while two fit deeper inside the chassis to replicate midgame bumps.

With the backplate attached and a single AC adapter plugged into a wall outlet, the machine is ready to rock. The backplate offers two crucial pieces to the pinball-emulation puzzle: a smaller LCD screen, which provides score information and midgame animations, and a pair of surprisingly robust speakers.

The backplate, by the way, is a printed poster that doesn"t change regardless of which virtual game you"re playing. My cabinet highlights the original Williams table Attack From Mars, while Arcade1Up"s two other 2021 models are decorated with Star Wars and Marvel characters, respectively. Sadly, for the Attack From Mars cabinet, Arcade1Up didn"t get a great source for the side cabinet art (especially on the backplate"s sides). Those images are a bit warped and low-res. Should your default home arcade have dim lighting, you may not even notice.

Power the system on, and after an admittedly overlong loading screen, Arcade1Up"s interface pops up, revealing a selection of 10 games as powered by Zen Studios" digital-pinball ecosystem. The Williams machine I tested includes the following:

Arcade1Up announced a few new entries for its officially licensed arcade cabinet line this year at CES 2022. The new line includes completely new cabinets and special editions of previously existing cabinets. The biggest addition to its product line is a Killer Instinct“Pro Series” arcade cabinet.

Arcade1Up is a company dedicated to releasing affordable arcade units based on iconic cabinets from the classic era. It has launched various titles from beat em’ ups like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time to classics like Tron and NBA Jam, being hailed as a company that’s contributed to the revamping of retro gaming. CES showcased even more releases coming this year from 1Up.

The company revealed its new Pro Series brand of cabinets at CES, beginning with a Killer Instinctvariation. This new cabinet features a new 19-inch LCD screen that provides a 5:4 arcade aspect ratio, upgraded Suzohapp buttons and joysticks, new speakers, and access to online multiplayer.

Along with the new Killer Instinct Pro Series unit, Arcade1Up announced a few other cabinets set to release this year. These arcades include the Atari Legacy Arcade Machine Centipede Edition, the Bandai Namco Legacy Arcade Machine Pac-Mania Edition, and the Midway Legacy Arcade Machine Mortal Kombat 30th Anniversary Edition.

Bachrach, who traded in the snotty teenaged skateboarder vibe to become a licensing guy in the 1990s, is today the head of Tastemakers. Tastemakers is the parent company of Arcade1Up, a business that creates scaled-down, 4-foot-tall replica coin-op arcades of all your favorite arcade classics. Space Invaders. Dig Dug. Dragon’s Lair. Pac-Man. Final Fight. NBA Jam. Golden Axe. Mortal Kombat. The list goes on and on.

Each Arcade1Up arcade unit features authentic controls, front and side art, and, unlike the original arcade machines, multiple games per unit. The Mortal Kombat II unit, for instance, also includes 1992’s original Mortal Kombat and 1995’s Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.

Although experts will spot the differences between the genuine article and Arcade1Up’s version (the heavy, but gorgeous old CRT monitors have been switched out for LCD screens for one thing), every effort has been made to ensure the experience rings true. For better or worse, you’ll feel successfully transported back to the heyday of the dimly lit, sticky-floored arcades in the cheaper end of the mall, in which your go at beating Rampage would be coolly appraised by gawky older teenagers waiting for their own turn.

Perhaps the smartest thing about Arcade1Up is that, ultimately, it solves the big quandary that originally brought down the arcades. By giving you an accessible, affordable way to own and play one of these things at home, coin-ops are no longer locked quite so tightly in *ahem* mortal combat with home consoles.

By giving you a dose of nostalgia, a conversation piece for your living room, and not requiring you to leave you to head to the mall (the what?!), Arcade1Up has managed to update the arcade experience for the 2020s. Some of the company’s games, like NBA Jam, even offer online play, which would have been almost unfeasibly awful in 1993.

So what does 2021 have in store? At E3, where Arcade1Up was featured among Digital Trends’s Best Tech list, the company announced a 30th anniversary edition of Konami’s classic The Simpsons game, a 1991 side-scrolling brawler in which players could play as Homer, Marge, Bart, or Lisa as they scrapped through Springfield to rescue a kidnapped Maggie. Bachrach calls it “arguably one of the best arcade machines ever made.”

But perhaps the most intriguing new offering is Arcade1Up’s Infinity Gaming Table, a digital gaming table that includes Hasbro’s Monopoly, Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit, Chutes and Ladders, assorted card games, and more. “That is, to me, one of the most exciting new products that we’re introducing [because it’s for a] completely new demographic of people,” Bachrach said.

He’s not kidding. While the Infinity Gaming Table may not tap the nostalgia keg in quite the same way that, say, Mortal Kombat II does, it builds on the same DNA that makes the company’s other products so successful: a mix of quality craftsmanship and well-known titles. The difference, as the Arcade1Up boss notes, is that this potentially has even more universal appeal — beyond the core audience of thirty to fifty-somethings who currently make up the bulk of its audience, and into full-on, all-ages family fare.

Having grown from a few prototype units to 2 million sales, and a staff of eight to more than 80 in just a few years, Arcade1Up is riding high. Whether its trajectory continues, or sputters out like the retro arcades it is based on, remains to be seen. For now, though, it’s a company that’s seemingly making all the right moves. Insert coins to play, indeed!

BigBox has a setting to choose which screen is primary display screen and which is the marquee screen. Once set It will then show marquees for games as well as platforms and platform categories if you have images for them as well. Keep in mind using a stretched lcd may require a xaml edit in the theme. Since most themes are coded to more traditional aspect ratios we have seen stretched lcds not show the image in the correct location. There are a couple threads already if you search that will help you if it is needed.
