The LCD module C-Berry designed by Admatec comes as a 3.5-inch diagonal TFT screen [1]. It also includes an adapter for the GPIO interface of the Rasp Pi, which makes it possible to integrate the hardware without much effort into your projects. The screen has an off-the-shelf price tag of about EUR 40 at dealers like Conrad or ELV Electronics.

The C-Berry module (Figure 1) can display 320 pixels horizontally and 240 pixels vertically. It emits a relatively strong 600 lumen, which means the visual display is easy to see even in daylight. At 5 volts, the module pulls about 350mA from the GPIO port and thus does not need its own power supply.

The LCD module comes in three parts: the basic TFT screen, an adapter for the GPIO port, and the connection cable that runs between the adapter and the screen. To put the parts together, you just connect the flat ribbon cable to both the screen and the adapter and then plug the adapter into the GPIO port. You need to make sure the ribbon cable is positioned correctly: Be sure the metal contact points on the cable point upward and away from the board when it is connected (Figure 2).

Hi guys, I"m fairly new to Raspberry Pi. I got today a Admatec C-Berry tft display I bought on-line from a site advertising it as a Raspberry-Pi screen. However, it has proven to be a bit of a nightmare to set it up together with my Pi.

I downloaded the "instructions" from the site they included (http://admatec.de/sites/default/files/d ... rry.tar.gz) but it only contains manuals with the technical specifications and how to assemble it physically (via GPIO) and a couple of .h and .c files to test the screen.

So far I managed to make the makefile and obtain an executable to display a bmp file onto the screen. This works fine, so I see the screen outputting the bmp file while conected to my Pi.

Ah, I hadn"t spotted that pdf. It looks as if some electronics design work is required to interface the chip to the bare display. The device I chose had the benefit of being available with the electronics already integrated, including the voltage conversion, so all it needs is 3.3V and some GPIO lines. There is a fair amount of circuitry on the interface board http://repaper.org/doc/downloads/epd_re ... it_v05.pdf - I don"t know how typical that is. A reference design for the Ultra Chip and the display would be good.

I"d like to see a larger display. I"d also like one with a microcontroller on the interface board so that the rather convoluted timing could be offloaded from the Pyboard to the interface. Alas the Embedded Artists" one was the best I"ve found to date in terms of ease of interface.

As an aside there is something odd about the image on the display: it refers to the C-berry and Raspberry Pi and the manufacturer admatec. These references lead you to an entirely different TFT display. Make of that what you will...
