Vertical lines on copies or scanned documents are typically caused by dirt, ink, corrective fluid, or other debris stuck on the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) scanner glass. Cleaning the ADF scanner glass properly should resolve the issue.

4. Because the copy made from the scanner glass had no vertical lines, but the copy made from the ADF did, that means there is something on the ADF glass causing this issue. It is unlikely that there is a machine defect. Typically, this issue is caused by wet ink or some other substance transferred from a piece of paper as it goes through the ADF. The ink or other substance gets on the glass as the paper moves through, and blocks the light of the scanner in that area for future copies. Because even a small dot can cause this problem, you will need to clean the glass properly to correct it:

c. Determine the area of the ADF glass strip that needs to be cleaned by lining up the copy with the black vertical line with the ADF glass strip (see red circle in image above).

- If, after a total of five cleanings of the ADF scanner glass, there are still black lines, your machine will require service. Go to WARRANTY AND SERVICE OPTIONS.

I"ve noticed the presence of faint vertical lines on my 23" HP Pavilion (1920x1080) monitor when connected to my M1 MacBook Pro (picture attached). This is most noticeable on darker uniform coloured backgrounds. I am on the latest macOS 11.2.1.

I can also make out faint "static" in certain places in the picture usually correlated with the vertical lines. The monitor is connected via HDMI using Apple"s own AV Multiport Adapter. Moving a window affected by this issue around on the display or leaving it stationary for a while can sometimes reduce the intensity of the issue on the window. Additionally, the effect is still present, but reduced when using the laptop in clamshell mode. Using a different HDMI cable does not help.

If I drag the window to another part of the screen, the vertical lines in dark dark grey box disappear but are still present in the lighter grey portion of the panel.

Dell laptops have integrated diagnostic tools that can determine if the screen abnormality is an inherent problem with the LCD screen of the Dell laptop or with the video card (GPU) and computer settings.

When you notice screen abnormalities like flickering, distortion, clarity issues, fuzzy or blurry images, horizontal or vertical lines, color fade, running a diagnostic test on the LCD helps identify if the issue is with the LCD panel.

Press and hold the D key and turn on the computer to enter the LCD built-in self-test (BIST) mode. Continue to hold the D key until you see the entire screen change colors.

If you do not detect any screen abnormalities in the integrated self-test mode, the LCD panel of the laptop is functioning properly. Go to the Update the video card (GPU) driver, monitor driver, and BIOS section.

If you notice any abnormalities in the LCD built-in self-test mode, contact Dell Technical Support to learn more about repair options that are available in your region.
