I spent a lot of time looking for a replacement climate control unit for my 1999 Boxster. I found used ones with no guarantee for ~$250 from less than reputable sources. Finally came upon this gem here at Pelican and I was very surprised at how well it worked, and for a fraction of the price of replacing the whole unit. Very easy to install following the instructions online (paper instructions did not come with mine). Very happy with the results.

It’s not always the styling or performance that makes once state-of-the-art cars feel embarrassingly dated next to modern machinery. It’s the media and communication systems. We take Bluetooth audio, Apple CarPlay and digital radio for granted in new cars, but that tech is missing from many high-dollar cars from the early 2000s.

Back in 2020, Porsche moved to remedy this situation by offering a retrofit single DIN Porsche Classic Communication touchscreen unit for classic 911s and a double DIN PCCM Plus setup for the 996-generation 911 and original 986 Boxster. Now it’s come up with a similar solution for the 997-generation 911 and 987 Boxster that followed, plus the 987 Cayman coupe and Cayenne SUV.

The PCCM Plus system for the 2003-2008 Cayenne is wider than the unit for the sports cars and features its hard keys at either side of the screen, rather than below. But both units feature a 7-in touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and satellite navigation with maps displayed in 2D or 3D. And if you’re replacing an older system that already offered navigation, you’ll still get to see arrow instructions in the gauge cluster.

And for the first time, Porsche has developed different versions for Europe and North America. Units sold on the eastern side of the Atlantic get DAB+ digital radio, while versions shipped across the water are equipped with SiriusXM satellite radio.

There’s also a trip computer and, in the 911, Boxster and Cayman, the option to store personal settings for features like the lights, windscreen wipers, climate control and door locks, depending on what equipment is already fitted to the car.

The new infotainment systems cost $1,475.99 in the U.S. and €1,520.37 in Germany, though you’ll have to pay extra for mapping data. We’ll update this post with prices for other markets when we have them.

The redesigned Porsche Boxster S is positioned as the most powerful member of the brand"s entry-level roadster lineup. The Porsche Boxster S is a two-seat compact convertible with a power top that is intended to deliver impressive handling and acceleration, and the vehicle also comes with forward airbags, side impact airbags for both the head and thorax, electronic stability control and traction control, and rollover protection for each side of the cabin.

The Porsche Boxster S benefits from the installation of a 3.4-liter six-cylinder engine that produces 315 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. Buyers can choose between either a traditional six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed, dual-clutch automated manual. The latter offers the ability to launch the Boxster S to 60-mph from a standing start in a mere 4.7 seconds. Fuel mileage for the roadster is listed as 21-mpg in city driving and 30-mpg during highway cruising.

The Porsche Boxster S (MSRP $60,900) offers 19-inch rims, a CD player, Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control, HID headlights, and leather seats. Most of the desirable Porsche options are found bundled together in package form. The Convenience package provides seat heaters, dual automatic climate control, and a wind deflector to help keep the passenger compartment quieter, while the Premium package adds adaptive headlights, and power seats to that list of features. The Sport Chrono package makes significant changes to the roadster"s chassis (including driver adjustments), as well as making available launch control and a lap timer, while the Infotainment package consists of a navigation system and an upgraded stereo.
