Emerson chose Obata to design and produce a new display for their headquarter lobby. After careful study, Obata applied several key drivers to guide the creative process – Exemplify current Emerson culture with a reflection on the company history, reduce visual complexity from the existing display, and greatly improve the aesthetic fit within the environment. Obata recommended a technology approach that focused on reducing complexity and simplifying content changes on the video screens.

Emerson’s spiral logomark, called the ‘Helix’, has become a recognizable icon of innovation and progress for many years. Despite the longevity of the mark, it has never been fabricated at a significant scale… until now. Obata envisioned the symbol as a dimensional structure that would serve as a centerpiece to all who visited Emerson’s headquarters.

Three video screens provide visitors a quick snapshot of Emerson and offer an array of visual information that harkens back to the company’s unique story of innovation. Having multiple screens allows for a variety of content to be displayed, and using wi-fi enabled media players allows videos to be easily replaced or updated any time.

The lobby of an enterprise is increasingly gaining importance. Now more than ever, businesses need to make an emotional connection with visitors and staff the moment they walk in the door. Businesses need to promote the quality and creativity of their brand, as well as their corporate values. Why not impress at first sight, upon entering the office building in a company lobby or when showcasing products in a splendid experience center where you have several screens at your disposal to dazzle potential customers and partners? These spaces remain the most impactful platforms for communication to your audiences with engaging messages and stunning content.

Adding professional screen managementin any combination with projection, LCDor LED in your lobby or experience center enables you to createbeautiful layouts and customize the content to your needs, 24/7. You will win the hearts of prospects, clients, vendors, strategic partners and potential employees that walk in and out of your office daily with an impressive branded experience, a welcoming message, or even an inspiring townhall session.

Screen management systems bring your informative content to the next level. They capture the content, process, scale and put it in your desired layout and distribute this to the lobby wall. This is all done with an unseen flexibility, reliability, and ease-of-maintenance.

The corporate lobby is a social hub and with its screens it gets your content message across. That message can be just about anything, ranging from just sharing practical information to trying to dazzle with engaging video. For every type of screen, Barco has a matching screen management system at your disposal: from small to large displays, to drive only one or several walls, in HD, 4K or a custom format, for every type of input & output...

In a Welcome lobby the content should be both company-branded and informative. You mainly want to inform visitors through navigation or signage, on company guidelines and regulations. You typically also display social media feeds, dashboards, marketing material & campaigns like a compelling company video or a stunning backdrop.

A Branding lobby makes a lasting impression on the visitors that enter your building. It’s all about impressing with impressive multimedia and video content. Your entrance focuses on brand image and customized content. Your brand colors need to be on point and the transitions need to be flawless.

The Townhall lobby or corporate experience center is a flexible space. It combines a welcome and/or branding lobby with a multi-purpose space where you can have occasional events, keynote speeches or townhall meetings with your staff. When hosting such a meeting or event in the lobby, you can use video and live footage via video camera, so the content you display can be both static and informative or dynamic and engaging.

The Barco S3-4K and E-2Gen 2 presentation switchers give you that wide flexibility and high scalability you pursue for any of the above lobby screens. Your branded backgrounds can be live video or a still image in high resolution and quality. On top of them, you can mix in still or live video content anywhere on the screen with multiple layers, without degradation of color, format or details. When your content is king, you want a high-quality visual experience, ‘real’ seamless transitions and zero limitations in layout. Barco’s S3-4K and E2 offer that freedom to play with graphics, logos and text in easily recallable custom-made layouts and presets. Switching between these customized layouts is also easy and intuitive, even from personal devices.

If you organize an event which is taking place in different rooms (e.g. in the lobby and in an auditorium), you can run the event from the same place, saving you time and operator cost. Thanks to our ‘Multi-Operator’ function, you can manage several screens in your Townhall lobby, control their respective content easily and take over when necessary. If you organize internal events and townhall sessions, dealing with multiple sources should be simple. During live presentations, you want full control and zero failure. When integrating a camera during a live speaker slot, no production switcher is needed. With broadcast-style workflows incorporated, the E2 is really all you need. And on top of that, the Multi-Operator feature makes sure each operator only affects their part of the system, so operators don’t cause conflicts during the live event.

An ImagePRO-4K gives same quality and flexibility as our above bigger units but in a smaller package with front panel control. It also easily scales, converts and switches the highest quality signals for your always-on LED wall, effectively solving glitches before they even occur. When you only have one or two 4K or smaller screens in your lobby and require a maximum of 4 input sources, the ImagePRO-4K promises to make your display shine. Ensuring clean and fast transitions between multiple sources and performing the best-in-class scaling and cropping, you’ll always show off with stunning 4K images. Since our solutions have modular input and output options we can convert and scale all common interfaces in 4K video, making the slicing and dicing an easier task while retaining the perfect image and frame sync.

The Barco Event Master presentation switchers and the ImagePRO-4K and EX scaling solutions are the most reliable on the market for your 24/7 lobby applications in the workplace, hotels and casino’s or any other venue. With thousands of units in the field at major brands and live events, our systems are proven to function in even the harshest of environments.

The E2 and S3 also have anautomatic input back-up function. Back-ups for inputs and backgrounds are crucial for your live events. If one unit fails, you always have a back-up input available and you don’t need to change the preset. Read more about this in our previous blogpost where we talked about the advantages of using our screen management systems in your auditorium.

With your scalable presentation switcher, you can easily adapt to changes, reduce technical display issues and make an easy connection when new signal interfaces are introduced. So rest assure, your investment is also futureproof. Since our solutions are modular and scalable, you don’t need to invest in a new box to support a new signal type. With the “Build To Order” modularity of the E2 you can design your own configuration. Start with a single chassis and 2 cards and go up to 8 chassis with a total of 96 cards later, if needed. This all makes it the most scalable and modular system with growing capabilities on the market.

And don’t forget, if you want to use more than presets at a large event in your lobby, you can always hire a freelance technician who knows how to operate Barco’s Event Master portfolio. With many external operators that have been trained to manage E2 installation and operation, your event will be in capable hands and your events will run seamless.

For anyone entering a corporate office, the lobby provides an impactful first impression that speaks directly to the company’s brand. The lobby presents the perfect opportunity to communicate a sense of culture, aesthetic, and connection with clients and colleagues. Best of all, lobbies designed with customized elements have a quicker and more positive impact with visitors.

A thoughtful design communicates the message of your company’s mission and vision. It sets the right mood, conveys authenticity, and shows creativity. Even on shoestring budgets, the lobby is a presentation of the brand, which should be reassuring to clients and employees, alike.

This area in the Power Design building is just off the entryway, so it’s one of the first things you see. It is not just a beautiful display, it is also a learning center.

Lobbies can affect employee morale, as well as client trust. Meanwhile, offices and cubicles do not have as much of an impact, because of the expectation that they should be more functional. Having the right design in place for your first impression establishes your brand quickly and the overall health of the company.

Good design can disrupt our typical way of thinking about these aspects of a lobby. Designing customized elements can reinvent the layout. So, when thinking about customized elements, always keep the following three foundational design concepts in mind:

Color creates an emotional and immediate impression. It shows authenticity. Your brand already has a color palette, so the lobby shouldn’t veer from it. More colorful rooms require more complementary colors. Choosing the wrong colors will clash with the logo on your wall.

Much of the character in your lobby comes from the materials you choose. Using eco-friendly and sustainable materials speaks directly to your company culture. Other things to consider are durability and functionality.

Does your lobby speak to the mission and vision of the company? Unique and thoughtful elements can be customized to act as something more than a visual representation. These represent the spirit of your company.

This gorgeous lobby for Superior Fence showcases their products in a unique way. Natural materials, a neutral color palette, and simple industrial style lighting add a sophisticated touch.

No other space in an office carries as much weight as the lobby, so businesses large and small need to invest in a thoroughly planned design that fits their budget. StandardVision recently collaborated with ESI Design, an NBBJ studio, The Scenic Route ("TSR"), Cushman & Wakefield, and Stanhope Company Contractors to bring a new digital art installation to the lobby of Beacon Capital Partners’ 800 North Brand Boulevard, a 21-story, 530,000 square foot office building in Glendale, CA.

The lobby’s experience design transformation, by ESI Design, includes custom media lighting technology which StandardVision was pleased to support through technical consultation, specification, and fabrication. The display consists of wall-mounted LED modules nestled between standoffs which hold a continuous acrylic sheet and perforated metal panel. A mockup scope helped to define the final apertures, materiality, LED-to-diffuser distance, and resolution capabilities to display ESI"s Design’s algorithmic digital art. Both mockup and installation phases were completed in close collaboration with ESI Design, StandardVision and TSR, who also designed and fabricated the perforated metal enclosure and surrounding finish work.

As part of StandardVision"s end-to-end technology scope, the StandardVision team also deployed their proprietary hardware-software CMS solution SVRunner for ESI"s media artwork. While also employing a variety of dynamic rules-based and creative scheduling tools, StandardVision worked closely with ESI Design to develop a workflow to tailor SVRunner"s programming capabilities to ESI"s creative vision on the project.

The subtle but engaging design creates a dynamic and distinctive space for both tenants and visitors. It is a testament to the close collaboration of the project team, and something StandardVision hopes will provide years of enjoyment and value for both tenants and the building owner.

The lobby in your office plays a crucial and interesting role. It’s the first and last thing your visitors see and experience during their visit – other than the front doors. This gives it a powerful position in the customer journey, as it can set the tone for the experience that day, and it can provide a final touchpoint in creating lasting brand awareness when your visitors leave. To make the most out of these first impressions, many brands are leveraging technology and interior design to create a unique office reception experience.

What does that look like? Well, depending on what’s desired for the space (entertainment, education) and budgeted toward it, these lobby experiences can take a few forms. They can be as simple as a single digital lobby sign to over-the-top immersive digital media environments that use custom millwork and embedded technology to create some magic. We’ve seen many interesting lobby experiences (seeking them out is something of a hobby for us), and from our visits, we have compiled our five favorite technology-driven elements for elevating lobby experiences.

1. Personalized Digital Signage that welcomes guests by name.If you already have digital signage in your lobby, this is a great way to elevate the touchpoint. A simple web interface lets you quickly type visitors’ names and have them appear on the screen within seconds. The best part about this is that text can be animated and otherwise treated to fit your brand with neat After Effects wizardry.

2. Visual canvasses that display data back as art. This is a really fun method of keeping signage content feeling fresh. Data that your business generates daily — weather, traffic, building occupation, noise levels, and just about any other data set that you can think of — can all feed regenerative motion visuals, bringing them to life and keeping things interesting for visitors for much longer. As we continue to see advances in AI, these concepts should continue to get much more interesting to experience.

3. Interactive company timelines or catalogs that visitors can explore.Since the lobby can act as both a gathering space and a waiting space, there is generally a captive audience hanging around, at least for a few minutes. Making self-guided interactive elements available can provide something intriguing for people to engage with while they’re waiting, and it transforms the wait experience into an educational brand touchpoint. We’ve also seen these interactives used by sales teams as part of a guided tour, which gives bonus points for the dual purpose!

4. Architecturally integrated media or “techoration.”These are visual canvases built in non-traditional ways. You can think of them much more like living art pieces than digital signage. They are created by using multiple-size displays in different orientations, mosaic digital screen panels, or LEDs that have been masked or trimmed into unique shapes. These setups are more visually stimulating than a single screen and, with the right content, can make nearly everyone pause to soak in the beauty of digital art.

These are just a few of our favorite digital signage solutions. We call these out for their simplicity and effectiveness in creating moments of excitement for visitors. There are plenty of other considerations for pulling together an experiential lobby, but we’ll have to save that discussion for another day.

In a busy trade show, the best exhibits are those that quickly grab and engage a visitor’s attention. The lobby of a business or a hotel isn’t (usually) as busy as a trade show floor, but these spaces benefit from a similar design aesthetic. Similarly, a corporate briefing center or demonstration room is different in form and function from a trade show hall. But an expertly designed corporate or lobby display can grab visitors’ attention, informing them about and attracting them to your brand. If you want the best chance of an engaging and long-lasting installation, turn to an experienced trade show company.

Whether it’s in a corporate headquarters or a hotel, a lobby is an important part of the whole. It’s the first point of contact for visitors and guests. It’s a waypoint for visitors who have destinations within the building. With the right lobby design, it’s a place to get information too.

Permanent lobby displays can have a range of useful functions and can even serve multiple purposes. It all depends on what you want guests or visitors to know and what kind of information is useful to them. Once you know what you want to say, your lobby can be designed with digital displays and other content that gives your company a voice.

A display of your business’s services – For instance, a media company might create a video wall showcasing their own images, video clips, or social media feeds.

In the corporate setting, a permanent installation can be a great fit for a lobby environment, but there are other areas where they shine. Executive briefing centers and demonstration rooms are both ideal locations for permanent displays. In these areas, communicating your corporate identity and showcasing your brand are key to making them work.

The right display in a briefing center can inform the way stakeholders, clients, customers, and prospects perceive your company. In a demo room, a great display helps showcase your brand and your products, and it enhances the experience for potential customers. When your brand is front and center, it helps people get to know your company that much better. And it fosters trust and creates stronger business relationships.

No. An interior design firm might design an aesthetically pleasing lobby, but that’s not necessarily the best use of the space. A lobby can be more than just a room people pass through on their way to somewhere else. If you want your lobby to excel—to be useful—over being just a waypoint, a trade show design team is what you need.

The same principle applies when it comes to corporate function rooms, such as executive briefing centers and demonstration rooms. In these spaces, communication and company identity are key to building and maintaining trust. Since these concepts are also front and center in custom exhibit design, a trade show team fits the bill perfectly.

These spaces work best when designed with viewer engagement in mind – They must find a balance between aesthetics and information that’s difficult to get exactly right without experience.

If your company is planning a lobby redesign or a permanent installation in a corporate setting, working with a trade show company is the logical choice.

A lobby is more than just a waiting area. It’s where your company makes its first impression on guests, visitors, new hires, and customers. In a briefing center or demo room, design and décor are just as key to ensuring that the space functions as intended. When you’re looking to make an impression, you want that impression to be the best it can be. A well-designed space and an appropriate display help you convey accurate messaging to everyone who enters.

Trade show companies excel at this because getting the message right—in very little time—is so vital to companies that exhibit at trade shows. A trade show design team can use their expertise to create corporate and lobby displays that convey exactly the right message to each visitor who passes through.

Your display might provide information, but if it’s not delivered in an engaging manner, it doesn’t add much to the visitor experience. If it’s not engaging right from the start, you’re likely to see visitors walk right by. Work with a trade show company to design your display, and this won’t be a problem.

One of the hallmarks of a successful trade show booth is informative content that actively engages viewers. This requires in-depth knowledge of both the content and its intended audience in order to work the information into a form that’s attractive to the audience. For instance, digital signage is a popular and effective way of delivering content. When powered by custom display software or an interactive program, digital signage provides content in the perfect format to engage interest and provide quick bites of information.

The same principle applies to designing corporate and lobby displays. To maximize the utility of these spaces, the content they offer should be both informative and engaging. It’s not enough to provide information—it must be delivered in a way that makes it interesting to read and easy to understand. This is second-nature for a good trade show design team, so they’re the ideal option for permanent display design too.

In the lobby or the corporate environment, technology can be added in different ways to provide information. For instance, digital video screens for multimedia displays provide information and functionality that transform a corporate room or lobby from a waypoint to a destination. If the display is interactive, users can choose from various options to find the information they need. This works especially well in hotel lobby design, where hotel guests often need different types of information.

Yet again, a trade show company is the obvious choice for designing an informational display that integrates interactive or multimedia technology. This aspect of design means combining tech and aesthetics into a pleasing whole, and this is really the nuts and bolts of trade show booth design. An effective booth combines aspects of aesthetics, technology, and information. These same three things are also essential to the design of permanent installations.

Whether it’s a trade show booth, a digital video wall in an executive briefing center, or an information display in a corporate or hotel lobby, a trade show company truly understands what works. Thinking of upgrading your lobby, or incorporating a modern permanent display in your demo room or briefing center? You’ll get the best results every time by working with a trade show company.
