CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.
"Every now and then, when I put the car in reverse, the backup camera display does not come on. I suspect it"s not the camera itself because when I turn the car off and leave it for awhile, the backup camera display works. I suspect a software problem but according to dealership service there are no known problems in this area"
"Two problems: 1. Had the display screen freeze. Appeared to be fixed by software update by dealer. 2. Heads-up display for digital speedometer occasionally fails to rise. Dealer has been unable to fix this problem"
"In addition to the backup camera display problem, the screen itself sometimes locks up for no apparent reason. If I turn the car off and leave it off for awhile, the problem goes away. It"s probably a software glitch"
"The display occasionally freezes up for an unknown reason rendering many features, most importantly the back-up camera, useless. The dealer has been unable to fix this. There is no reset button and I have to shut off the ignition for about 20 minutes to resolve the problem when I restart the car. I suspect a software bug."
"Bluetooth system pairs phone (I phone 7S) well and phone features work well but rarely if ever have I been able to play music using the phone and bluetooth. However the phone plays music well using the plug in aux, but often the screen will freeze and have to reboot. I tried rebooting the entire system which did advised by Mazda to do which did not work. Mazda recommended having the system flashed with an update, but have not had a chance to do so, mainly because the dealership that sold me the car is no longer an authorized service/warranty dealer for Mazda."
"The screen looked like it was cracked, causing spider web looking crack across the screen. The "cracks" were internal, and the dealership confirm it was not operator error, or damage by us. They said it was a known problem. It took me writing to Mazda to get the dealership to replace the screen free of charged. Which the dealership eventually did after about two months of calls and letter writing."
"My car came with BOSE premium sound system. The front speakers started to create a rattling sound. I have researched service bulletins online and determined the issue. I removed the door panels and removed the speakers, fixed the issue with glue and remounted it. The problem resolved."
"Car is white. Have several black spots on the front bumper after only 66,666 km with nearly all driving on city streets or highways. Very evident when spots show black on a white car."
"The only problem was with the paint on the wheels. It is a dark gray paint that was severely peeling. Mazda said the 2016 Mazda 6 vehicles had defective paint for that year. They replaced all my wheels under the warranty."
"For a while it was difficult to get it into reverse or first. When I let up on the clutch I either had to race the engine or it jerked. Shifting was not as smooth as I"m used to. I started driving stick shift cars in 1965 and this is about the worse case I"ve had with the clutch."
"The clutch does not shift smoothly. Starting may even be somewhat jerky. I have shifted into reverse instead of 1st gear, Sometimes I"m going in 4th gear and then realize I should be in 6th gear."
"During a cold start, a transmission error code was displayed in the gauge cluster. Owner"s manual indicated it needed to be towed to avoid risk of damage. Per the dealer, a shift sensor failed but no damage was done to the transmission since I did not drive it was the code appeared. The part was under warranty and Mazda covered the cost of the tow as well as parts and labor."
The Mazda6 (known as the Mazda Atenza in Japan and China, derived from the Italian mid-size sedan produced by Mazda since 2002, replacing the long-produced Capella/626.
The Mazda6 was marketed as the first example of the company"s "Stylish, Insightful and Spirited" design philosophy,Mazda2 in December 2002, the RX-8 in August 2003, the Mazda3 in January 2004, the Mazda5 in the summer of 2005, the MX-5 in October 2005, and the CX-7 in November 2006. The 2003 Mazda6 is essentially the seventh-generation Mazda 626, part of the "G" model code family.
The first-generation Mazda6 was launched in Japan as the Mazda Atenza in May 2002. The model lineup consisted of a four-door sedan, a four-door hatchback and a five-door wagon, marketed in North America as the "Sport Sedan", "5-Door" and "Sport Wagon", respectively.
The first generation was marketed as a 2003 model in the United States and as a 2004 model in Canada. In Europe, the luxury sports model was available as a 120 hp (89 kW) direct injection turbodiesel ("DITD") estate up until 2007. As of 2008, the European Mazda catalog listed only the "Sport" version of the 146 hp (109 kW) turbodiesel estate, while the "Luxury Sport" version had been dropped.
Drivetrain combinations included the Mazda MZR engine in configurations of 1.8 L (L8-DE),LF-VE) and 2.3 L (L3-VE), initially with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission (with a sequential-automatic option, dubbed the "Four-Speed Sport AT").Duratec 30 V6 engine was also available with a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic (with a sequential-automatic option, dubbed the "5-Speed Sport AT").turbodiesel that comes with a six-speed manual transmission and produces significantly more torque than the V6, with much improved fuel economy.
In North America, the 5-speed automatic optional on the V6 models were replaced by an Aisin 6-speed automatic for the 2005 model year. The four-cylinder model received a Jatco five-speed automatic in the following year. Power was directed to the front wheels in most markets, although full-time all-wheel-drive models were available in Japan, Europe, and Australia. Not all configurations were available in all areas – for example, the Mazda 6 as released in Australia was available in 2.3L four-cylinder guise only, when the 626 it replaced had been available with a choice of four- or six-cylinder engines. The MZI V6 engine was only fitted to vehicles manufactured at Mazda"s Flat Rock Assembly Plant and destined for the U.S. and Canadian domestic markets.
Mazda"s Hofu Plant in Yamaguchi Prefecture produced the Mazda6 for international markets from February 2002 to August 2007. In North America, Mazda6 production was handled at the AutoAlliance International plant in Flat Rock, Michigan. The first Mazda6 rolled off the AAI assembly line on October 1, 2002, one month after 626 production ended. There are also satellite plants building Mazda6 models in China and Thailand for local markets.
In September 2005, the Mazda6 received a facelift which introduced 5-speed auto and 6-speed manual transmissions, standard 16- or 17-inch alloy wheels, and minor bodywork upgrades.
In China, the Mazda6 was introduced by FAW Mazda in 2003. Despite the release of its successors, the first generation car, known locally as the Maliu (马六, "Horse 6"), continues to be manufactured at FAW"s Changchun plant, having sold over 770,000 units as of 2014.FAW Benteng, also known as Besturn B70 or Hongqi C301.
The 2006 Mazdaspeed6 (known as Mazdaspeed Atenza in Japan and Mazda6 MPS in Europe, South Africa and Australia) is a high-performance version of the first generation Mazda6. Its mission statement was written with the help of Peter Birtwhistle, chief of Mazda"s advanced design studio in Germany at the time. It was initially unveiled as a concept at the 2002 Paris Motor Show. It features a turbocharged version of the 2.3 L MZR inline-four which produces 272 PS (200 kW), although the European version was detuned to 260 PS (191 kW) as a result of stricter emissions standards. The North American version originally produced 274 hp (204 kW), which was revised to 270 hp (201 kW) for 2007. All models have 280 lb⋅ft (380 N⋅m) of torque. The 2.3 L DISI turbocharged engine features direct fuel injection and conforms to the new Euro 5 emissions standards. All markets received a revised front fascia with a raised hood, a 6-speed manual transmission, and all-wheel drive. The all-wheel-drive system uses Mazda"s Active Torque Split computer-based control, which can route between a 100/0 to 50/50 front/rear torque split depending on driving conditions. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a limited-slip differential.
Originally scheduled to be launched in June 2005, the Mazdaspeed Atenza was delayed until November. In North America, the Mazdaspeed6 comes in two trim levels; the "Sport" trim with cloth interior and standard key entry and ignition; and the "Grand Touring" trim with leather interior, keyless entry/ignition, and optional DVD navigation. Automatic climate control is standard, as is a 200 W Bose stereo system featuring seven speakers and a 9-inch subwoofer in addition to an in-dash six-disc CD changer. A sunroof with moonroof feature is optional on the Grand Touring trim.
The second-generation Mazda6 made its premiere at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.Ford Mondeo and Opel/Vauxhall Insignia (hatchback) by 200 liters with rear seats folded down.
The North American version was redesigned for the 2009 model year, with the wagon and hatchback versions being dropped there. It is a widened and lengthened version of the model sold elsewhere, with larger engines. Reviewers have noted its coupe-like roofline and sportier style.4-cylinder and North American versions get the 3.7-liter V6 which is also available in the Mazda CX-9.Motor Trend recorded a 0–60 mph acceleration time of 6.1 seconds for the Mazda 6 V6.
In America, only a sedan model was available (In the Middle East, USDM Mazda6 known as Mazda6 Ultra is sold alongside the JDM Mazda6). A Mazdaspeed6 variant was not offered. Despite the North American version"s increase in dimensions, Mazda maintains that the 6 retains the overall driving experience is still sportier than rivaling Honda Accords, Toyota Camrys, or Chevrolet Malibus. Early reviews have been favorable.
On March 3, 2011, around 50,000 Mazda6 vehicles from the 2009–10 model years were recalled in the United States, with another 15,000 in Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico after it was found that Yellow Sac Spiders were building nests in the fuel line of the vehicles.
The last Mazda6 rolled off the line at Mazda"s Flat Rock Assembly Plant on Friday, August 24, 2012, with Mazda discontinuing production on American soil, effectively ending the 20 year joint-venture between Mazda and Ford.Hofu factory in Japan.
In China, over 680,000 Mazdas, including Mazda6 made between September 2008 and January 2016, were recalled due to faulty airbags. An earlier recall involved 280,000 Mazda6 models made between 2003 and 2008 for a similar issue.
In 2007, Mazda won its first manufacturers championship in the Touring Car class.2009, they finished 2nd in the manufacturer"s championship with 65 points, behind Acura.
The Mazda6 has also been used in the KONI Challenge Series Sport Touring class. It was last used in 2008 by the Baglieracing team with Dennis Baglier, Chris Gleason, and Marty Luffy as drivers.
The third generation Mazda6 sedan was unveiled during Moscow International Automobile Salon on 29 August 2012, and the station wagon version followed during the 2012 Paris Motor Show in the following month. In this generation, there are only 4-door sedan and 5-door station wagon versions available.Takeri concept, unveiled at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show,Shinari concept from 2010.
The Mazda6 was second place in the 2003 European Car of the Year awards and made Ten Best list for 2003. The Sport Wagon won the Canadian Car of the Year Best New Station Wagon award, while the Sport sedan won the Canadian Car of the Year Best New Family Car award for 2005. The Atenza Wagon also won What Car?"s Best Estate award in 2004. Also the Mazda6 won the 2003 Semperit Irish Car of the Year.
The Mazda6 won the "Best Mid-size Car (over $28,000)" title in Australia"s Best Cars in 2002 and 2003.Subaru Liberty, and fifth in 2005 (the Honda Accord Euro was first in 2005). Wheels magazine also awarded the Mazda6 winner of its Active Safety Program in July 2005. In December 2007 the Mazda6 won the Carsales Peoples Choice award for its class in Australia.
The Mazda6 was praised for its edgy handsome design, communicative steering, and tight suspension. However, as it was designed as a world car in order to fit the needs of Europe and Japan, it was smaller than its North American contemporaries in the midsize segment, being criticized for its reduced passenger space. Its acceleration, particularly the V6 engine models, lagged behind that of its rivals as well.

Those pins are on the radio. This messed me up too. Had a blank display until I thought to try connecting to the radio pins. Worked instantly after doing so. Instructions should be updated to clarify this.
thanks Jamie.. that takes a "all" the confusion out of this upgrade/install.. especially after looking at the 2006+ wiring diagrams where there "is" a CAN+/- signal going to the unit..
Glad to help. This is a great upgrade for our cars, both functionally and visually. I couldn"t stand the look of the silver radio and trim. Much happier with the 06+ radio and shifter trim now. My before and after: https://goo.gl/photos/vNz8bWb1yvYKqC3s7
Nice... I picked up my 6 with a missing radio and a half ass"d metra kit installed so i"ve been reverse engineering from day one... Does your tablet solution in place of the factory nav system fold away?
Ah, sounds like a blast. Mine was luckily unmolested. Keep wanting to ditch the Bose amp and speakers (not loud enough at high speed with the windows open), but it"s fine for now. My tablet setup does not fold down, but I thought about modifying it to do so, maybe by hinging the tablet to the lid, then I could fold it back and down. For now, it"s easily removed and either stored inside the bin or taken with me if I have any theft concerns. If you are ultra-bored, here"s the thread on mazda6club.com of what I"ve done to my car in the last ~1.8 years of owning it. http://tinyurl.com/gpb894z
For anyone trying this - to save yourself buying 5 OEM harnesses and 3 harness connecters and moving the wires, just buy 1 "FORD/MAZDA PARROT CONVERTOR LEADS" off ebay which contains all the necessary wires and makes this job way easier.
Hey, I have used parrot converter leads and display working completely fine and all buttons are mirroring on display unit. But the big trouble is that I have no sound. I have got bose speakers Mazda 6 2005 ts2. I have two lose wires on each end with chrome connectors blue with red stripe and a pink wire. Do I need to connect them somewhere as the pink wire says mute?
Hi, I"m in the process of doing this conversion and this is a great guide. I don"t suppose you have the bose amplifier wiring details at all? I"m installing the 6 cd unit and believe it has no internal amp.The speakers and sub are already in but i don"t want to mess up when i fit the main unit. Many thanks, Andy.
I just want to know if i am replacing the stock stereo in my 2004 mazda 6 with an aftermarket stereo and i buy an adapter to connect the original jack to the new stereo, would this affect my lcd screen at all other than the radio functions not displaying on it.
In other words, does the jack that connects to my lcd screen come out of the original harness or is there a seperate port at the back of the original stereo specifically for the jack coming out of the lcd screen?
and i still cant figure the connection between the radio connector (white plug) and the car connector (red plug) . for example ports 9,16,14,10 where they should be connected to ?
As for keeping the 04 radio and change the display to an 08.. it will not work as he says as there are different pin outs. 16 for an 04 and 10 for an 08.
hi i have just done the lcd display and stereo swap in my 2003 mazda 6 ts2 got the harness from the 2006 sport model but miles remaining is showing - - - - even after putting a full tank in can you help please?
You"d have to track down a schematic of the display and the radio/harness as our cars don"t have that feature. I"m sure there is an extra wire that needs to be spliced into the harness to get your feature to work.
friend I have the same problem with mazda 6 2004 3.0 l with bose if you found a solution for that problem please send us an bjeshka_9@hotmail.com in his reply
Hey man I want to ask you can I change only the panel and the CD changer without changing LCD display. And will I need to replace any wires if its possible to change only the panel with the CD player. My mazda is 2003 and without BOSE. Thank u.
Hey there, I have a 2004 mazda atenza (mazda6 japanese version) and i managed to hook up my aftermarket double din head unit without problems but when i tried to connect my 03-05 info display connector to the radio harness I didn"t succeed. I know it has a 16 pin connector not like the 10 pin connector in the 05-08 models so i just basically used this site to wire as many wires as i can and i did have some leftover but i gave it a shot and didn"t succeed so can anyone please show or tell me how to wire a 03-05 info display connector to my 04 radio harness? Thanks!

Just made this swap, but now my HVAC is acting weird. The controls are backwards...turning in on kills the air, but displays properly (can adjust temp amd fan speed. Turning it off puts the air on full cold and full blast.
I am planning to do this swap on my 04 Mazda 6. I know that you spoke extensively above about how to determine which 06-08 stereo to purchase, but there are like seven different options and most listed on Ebay just give a part number. Does anyone know which 06-08 stereo part number I should use for a six disc Bose stereo, with steering wheel controls? Also would it be a six or 7 speaker set up? I am pretty sure it is 7, but don"t want to purchase the wrong deck.
Hi all is it possible to fit a 2006 Bose system head unit and all with auto climate control to my 2004 with standard a/c with dials and standard head unit and if so what parts do I need to source please thanx in advance
Fantastic write up! Sadly though I"m not getting any audio even though everything else seems to work as it should. The car is a 2004 with Bose and the radio and display are out of an 2006 with Bose. I have also tried another radio and still no audio. Anyone got any ideas?
Can you remove the non bose radio and lcd from a 2006 Mazda 6 and put both into a 2004 Mazda 6? I disconnected the LCD and now can"t find where it connects to the radio.
6cd changer,i didnt read anything about upgrading so i just purchased the newer model,so you know al the problems that im having now,my question is can i just attach the radio unit of the new black model to my older silver panel? I dont care for the cd changer i just wanted the newer model to hook up the mp3/usb box from ebay
Hey, I used parrot converter leads and followed the diagram above. Everything works fine on display all buttons are working including climate controls. All the buttons are mirrored on display but the only trouble is I have no sound. I have got mazda 6 2005 ts2 2.0 ltr petrol bose system.
I have mazda 6 2004, non-bose, no navigation, no cd changer :D I did everything by this tutorial and everything work fine! (AV consume, time, reming,...) I"ve bought USB,SD, AUX adapter from aliexpress and it"s works too! Thanks for this tutorial, very helpful! :)

Im trying to do the same thing with a mazda 3 stereo swap. Donor 08 radio into recieving 04 car. Would you happen to know if the procedure and wiring are the same?
how much would you charge to make a harness for me? trying to find the pigtails for the display is getting to be next to impossible around where I live. everything is 03-05 models. I have the 06-08 radio and display. I still have my stock 03-05 display too.
also. if you wanted to add more color to the 06-08 radio face, you can change out the hazard switch, hvac/defroster buttons and even the hvac fan module. I did this the other day and it helps tremendously to be able to find the hazard switch more easily. I never understood why they decided to make everything all one color on the console face.
hello mate, can you upload new image of "wiring an 06-08 info display to an 03-05 radio harness",cause image is not available anymore, big thanks in advance
hi anyone did a only display info screen swap mine is dying and i dont want to replace the whole radio as i only want to swap the lcd to the new one is it do able?
I done swap entire wiring in my dash, i added all amp"s, woofers, and speakers, and then i purchased radio from restyling which have bose. I connected all of that and my drivers door speakers is not working, its working on like 10% volume, and my lcd doesnt work at all. I bought Parrot converter. Do you have more pictures or something of how you made that external harness or something?
