Are you struggling to replace your hot tub’s expensive and hard to find circuit board or topside controller? Instead of hauling your old spa off to the dump, consider installing an entirely new control system!
Electrical wiring and repairs can be dangerous, especially around water, and must be performed by a qualified electrician or spa technician.Shut off electrical power to the hot tub or pool at the service panel prior to any inspections or work. DISCLAIMER
The control system, or spa pack, is the brain of the hot tub. This nerve center controls the functions and equipment in the spa, like the jet pumps, filtration time, and heater.
Non-digital air systems have buttons that send a puff of air to switches, turning each function on or off. These pneumatic switch type controls were used on the early tubs of the 1970’s through 1990’s. While they’re still available, most air systems have been replaced by digital controls.
An air system will have 1/8” vinyl tubes connecting each button to the control system, in addition to any electrical cords. These tubes are similar to those used in fish tanks or medical drip systems.
Great! You‘ve decided on digital or air controls and selected the correct heater type. The next step is to determine the number of pumps and other circuits your tub needs.
Determine what components your tub has by following each cord attached to the control system to its respective component. Once you’ve located each component, note the voltage, which will be listed on its data label.
Caution: Make certain the power is disconnected before proceeding. On 240V spas, shut-off the breaker at the main panel servicing the house, and the GFCI Sub-Panel servicing the spa. On 120V spas, unplug spa from the receptacle.
Note: Most topsides are attached using silicone sealant or double stick tape. Oftentimes, using fishing line or dental floss to get in between the shell of the tub and the topside helps.

Hot tub and spas will need repairs and replacement of defective or worn out parts from time to time. This is unavoidable because spa components work hard and break down with age.
This guide aims to help you troubleshoot malfunctions of your hot tub or spa by isolating and identifying the problem so you can get the best solutions.
The hot tub control panel is like a timer that keeps the spa’s temperature constant. It turns off the spa when you forget to and troubleshoots problems. Thus, it is very important to have a spa control system in good working condition.
Electrical repairs are dangerous especially around water. It is always better to get a qualified spa technician or electrician. Make sure electrical power to the spa or hot tub is disconnected before any inspection or repair work.
If the control panel is frozen or dead, you have to check if the problem is the control panel or the circuit board. Examine if there is moisture in the display. Check if there are cracked buttons or if a part is wet. If only a part is not working, look for error messages or blinking lights.
Turn the power on and check if the hot tub heats up or starts to filter. The surest way to check if a control panel works is to use one you know is working and connect it to the circuit board.
Once you have tested the control panel and it does not work with one you know is in working condition, you may need to replace the circuit board. A few examples of circuit board issues are partially blank display, delay in displaying messages, or LED lights don’t work properly.
If the control panel is displaying strange messages or have lights blinking at the same time, it could be a software issue with the circuit board. Check if there is corrosion or condensation.
Blinking red lights on the control panel means it needs resetting. Many models require turning off the power for a few minutes and turning back on. For hot tubs powered by 240 volts, turn on the lower amp breaker. If your hot tub is 120 volts, unplug and re-plug after two minutes.
In many cases, a hot tub technician can handle electrical issues. If the blower isn’t working anymore, you can replace it. Replacing just the blower could cost about $100 to $200.
Make sure to shut off the power at service panel and as an additional safety measure, disconnect the power for the spa, too. Never attempt electrical repairs if you don’t feel qualified or have no experience.’
An electronic spa controller allows you to control everything with a topside control panel that provides the owner with a digital water temperature reading. This type of controller is the most convenient and only cost a bit higher than a pneumatic one.
A pneumatic spa controller has push buttons to control a spa. There is an air hose between the spa controller and the button. You can’t adjust temperature of the water from the topside of the spa. You will need to get out of the spa, open the panel access door, and adjust it from the dial on the spa controller.
If only one of the air buttons work, the clear air tubing connected to the bottom of the air buttons may have become disconnected. It could have been chewed through by a rodent. Ensure that there is no water in the tubing as this also affects the switches’ performance.
Below are detailed steps to replace your hot tub spa pack – controller, pump, and heater system that connect to the top side panel and controls all your spa functions.
Shut the power off. Completely disconnect the circuit breaker in the breaker box or panel and other secondary boxes near the spa. Use a voltmeter to make sure that power is totally off.
Unplug the pack. Disconnect electrical wiring, remove front panel and unscrew nuts or wiring from the terminal block inside the spa pack. Remove accessories plugged into the spa pack like lights, blower, panel, ozone, sensors, etc. Color code so you know where the wires go. Remove or clip off a bare copper bonding wire that connects to the control box.
To wire the pack, make sure power is still off. Loosen the cover screws and open the cover of the spa control. Inside the panel door or cover you will find a wiring diagram for the receptacles and other components. The main wires should enter the upper left side hole below which are the grounding and bonding bar on the left outside of the cabinet.
New cords are provided for various components and it is advisable to use them rather than the old cords. Plug the cord in to the electrical loads including the topside panel, blower, ozonator, secondary pumps while the other end goes into a hole in the motherboard.
The controller and heater of a spa pack can be installed individually but for a complete upgrade, you can purchase a complete spa pack with 1 or 2 pumps, digital topside panel, spa lights, and new wiring.

The legacy of the museum"s founder, Sylvester "Hawk" Francis, is ever present through pieces of the suits he wore while masking with the Spirit of Fi Yi Yi tribe and archival footage of him in parades and at the city"s Jazz Fest. His daughter, Dominique Francis Dilling, is carrying on the torch for her father, who died in 2020, as she now serves as the museum"s executive director.
Other sections of the Backstreet Museum pay homage to the Skull and Bones Gang, who wake up the Treme neighborhood every Mardi Gras morning at sunrise banging drums, chanting and dancing; and the Baby Dolls, who in 1912 were the first women"s masking group to take part in Mardi Gras at a time when women weren"t allowed to participate.
Unlike other similar reality shows, contestants on The Mole were ordinarily treated to full course dinners, sit-down breakfasts, and fine wines at supper, while staying some nights at fancy hotels in exotic locations. Often travel was done in nice cars, or comfortable trains. It contrasted sharply with other reality shows of the time, such as
Night out in Paris: The players were flown to Paris, France for their next test. After dinner, the players were allowed to spend the night out in Paris, with a catch - the entire group must stay together, and had to be back to the hotel before midnight (approximately two hours). If the team was not back in time, a $10,000 penalty would be assessed from the pot. The players were successful, and no money was deducted. However, during the test, Manuel insisted on purposely failing the test to spend more time out in Paris. His decision was unanimously overruled.
Hostage Rescue: The players move on to Monte Carlo, Monaco. One of the players, Steven, is kidnapped from his hotel room in the middle of the night. He is transported to a prison cell and placed in shackles and an iron mask. When the other players arrive for breakfast, they realize he is missing. The other players split into three groups to search for him (by helicopter, boat, and van), and are given clues to his whereabouts. If all eight players find and arrive at his secret location (Cannes, France) in less than two hours with three keys, they will add $50,000 to the pot. The players failed to pass the test in time.
Three Routes: The six remaining players split into three pairs: a "smart" team, a "resourceful" team, and a "stupid" team. The three teams" task is to each find their way to a hotel in Jerez, Spain. If they make it to the hotel before 8 p.m., they can stay there for the night. The "stupid" team is brought directly to the hotel, where they enjoy lavish spa treatment. The "smart" team is provided a Smart car, a map, a cell phone, and a few clues. The "resourceful" team is provided a truck filled with an array of odd items, including a scooter, a bicycle, a liferaft, and geese. It"s soon realized the truck is unreliable, and is leaking oil. If either the "smart" or "resourceful" team joins the "stupid" group at the hotel, $40,000 will be added to the pot. However, if both groups arrive, the "stupid" team would be forced to sleep outside for the night. If the "stupid" team can lure the "smart" team awry, letting only the "resourceful" team arrive, the money added to the pot would double to $80,000. The "smart" team arrived at the hotel in time, adding $40,000 to the pot.
Fortress: The players are taken to an abandoned fort and told they must defend it from four trained aggressors. The target is a glass bowl, illuminated by two spotlights on the roof. The aggressor"s objective is to either disable both spotlights or move the glass bowl out of the light. To succeed, the players must keep the bowl illuminated from sunset to sunrise, or shoot and hit all the aggressors, preventing further attacks. Success in this task is worth $60,000. While the aggressors were not armed, the players were armed with paintball guns. The players failed at this test.
The three tasks are as follows: one player has to stand blindfolded against a wall as a knife thrower throws a hatchet at them. One player, blindfolded, has to run across hot coals. The third player has to walk a plank blindfolded off a bridge and over a ravine.
Three Rooms: The final test sees the players check into a hotel in Ronda, Spain. All three players are locked in separate rooms, each with a different environment, different clues and different objects and resources. All three must use what they have in their rooms to figure out how to contact the others, and escape to the lobby within 90 minutes. If all three meet Anderson within the allotted time, $75,000 is added to the pot. According to clues during the game, this test occurred on the final full day of filming, October 19, 2000. The players failed at this test.
Hotel rooms: After being given all of the information ahead of time about the rather difficult and complex test, Kathryn attempted to guide Steven and Jim though the test, and be seen as the hero who won the test for the group. She thought that winning the game would cause one last bit of confusion for the other players. Both Steven and Jim, however, were unable to pick up on her (rather obvious) clues, and the test failed.
During the final episode, it was revealed that Kathryn struggled to keep her cover as the mole at certain times during the four weeks of filming. She started crying after Manuel and Charlie were executed, feeling sorry for them. In the later parts of the show, she broke down during the three questions test (after a stinging question about whether she would cheat on her soon-to-be husband), and also broke down in her room during the hotel room test about her role in the game.
Cartier: Towards the end of the test, the group decided on which watch is the fake. Kathryn suggested "Pulling the trigger" on the choice. The one they chose as a fake was shot, therefore "Pulling the trigger" hints at Kathryn"s beforehand knowledge of the challenges as the mole.
