The year 2021 is one of innovation and novelty for BRP. Whether it’s for the engine, suspension, ski or technology, the company never ceases to surprise us. Speaking of technology, the new 7.8 inch high definition color LCD display caught my attention and probably the attention of many. So I decided to take a closer look at this new feature and let you discover it.
First of all, I have to say that BRP has invested a lot of energy to offer an extremely clear and bright screen in different outdoor conditions with a state-of-the-art display technology. The text is now larger for easier reading. As for example, the temperature level indicator on the grips and the heated thumb are now very visible.
The first thing we need to do to use the new screen and its features is to download BRP Connect and BRP GO to our cell phone. These applications are available on Apps Store and Google Play.
BRP Connect is sort of a portal to launch different apps. There are several available and then you can customize your screen to your interests. However, for the application to work, the phone must be connected via a USB wire and also connected via Bluetooth to the snowmobile. In addition, the phone must be open and the application launched (not in standby mode). It is also through this application that you can launch BRP GO.
This new technology from BRP announces great things for the next few years. Despite the high price tag, the new 7.8 inch high definition color LCD is still a great option. Let’s hope it becomes more affordable for snowmobilers.
The 2021 Sea-Doo GTX Limited 300 is poised to debut the watercraft world’s first 7.8-inch full colour digital instrument display with smartphone connectivity via a dedicated app.
The first shipments of Sea-Doo’s supercharged luxury-performance flagship are due in Australia in early 2021, priced from $26,699 not including trailer and registration (an increase of $200 compared to the 2020 model).
Sea-Doo’s revolutionary reverse thrust debris removal technology (outlined here) is also available on the 2021 Sea-Doo GTX Limited 300 for an extra $1200, bringing the RRP to $27,899 not including trailer and registration.
This makes the 2021 Sea-Doo GTX Limited 300 with IDF (intelligent debris-free system) the most expensive watercraft on sale in Australia today. The first deliveries are not due in Australia until early 2021, and even then stock will be limited.
However, unlike the 4.3-inch digital display on the current generation Yamaha FX series (pictured below), the Sea-Doo instrument cluster is not a touch screen.
The 2021 Sea-Doo GTX Limited 300 shares the same ST3 top deck and hull as the Sea-Doo Fish Pro, Sea-Doo Wake Pro, and Sea-Doo RXT-X300 which still run the older LCD instrument display.
Sea-Doo says the new 7.8-inch colour screen enables smartphone connectivity and when paired via the company’s BRP Connect app, riders will have screen access to weather forecasts and music functions.
The first shipments of the 2021 Sea-Doo GTX Limited 300 are due in Australian showrooms in early 2021, pending any unforeseen delays in shipping and freight forwarding, which tends to delay deliveries of watercraft at this time of year.
A high-tech new snowmobile riding app that ties into you phone – or into the huge new multi-function gauge that was available as an option on select 2021 Ski-Doos – has now officially been launched, giving rider mapping functionality, group ride capabilities and much more.
Initial details on the BRP Go! app and the 7.8-inch Panoramic LCD Display were announced last February when Ski-Doo launched its 2021 snowmobile lineup, and its creation caused quite a stir at the Club Ski-Doo dealer meeting we attended in Mexico. The multi-screen gauge gave Ski-Doo riders a new level of available information on their snowmobile and multiple ways to display the information they sought in a modern, clean-looking display.
As of the Ski-Doo dealer meeting and then the spring tests of 2021 demo models and the spring ordering period, however, the BRP GO! app wasn’t completed — Ski-Doo said it was still finalizing some of its lisences and functions. With a November press release (below) Ski-Doo is officially announcing that the app is ready for action, though geographically it’s limited at this point to 9 U.S. states and 5 Canadian provinces – with detailed mapping in Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York and Pennsylvania in the northeast; Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and North Dakota in the Upper Midwest; and Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, Manitoba and Saskatchewan in Canada. There’s nothing in the Mountain West in either country at this point, and Ontario and Maine are a couple of the many big holes in trail territory.
Designed for Apple and Google devices, the new app offers many perks for Ski-Doo and other snowmobile riders including navigation for snowmobile trails to ensure riders can navigate terrains safely, specific community info (e.g. locating other riders so you always know where your friends and family are).
The app also offers both online and offline information to ensure navigation for when cell signals may be scarce. The app currently is available for U.S. and Canadian Ski-Doo riders in Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Wisconsin, Quebec, Nova Scotia, Manitoba, New Brunswick and Saskatchewan – with plans to expand across more states, provinces and territories in North America in the future.
For locations currently not covered, the app will still allow Ski-Doo end-users to mirror the app on the gauge, create an account, invite friends, use the area exploration mode (without the trails) and see topographic information on the map, as well as locating your GPS position and consulting your trip stats. If you would like your region to be included in BRP GO! you can reach out to your local snowmobile association to express interest. It is the one-stop shop for planning snowmobiles outings.
