NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Nissan today announced U.S. pricing for the new 2017 Rogue crossover, which is on sale now at Nissan dealers nationwide. Pricing starts at $23,8201 for the Rogue S front-wheel drive model.

The Nissan Rogue has been updated for the 2017 model year with fresh exterior and interior treatments, an expanded suite of Nissan Safety Shield technology including available Forward Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection2, and the first ever Rogue Hybrid model. Pricing for the new Rogue Hybrid will be announced closer to its late 2016 on-sale date.

Nissan has also announced that it will produce a limited-volume version, named the "2017 Nissan Rogue: Rogue One Star Wars Limited Edition," for the U.S. and Canadian markets. The vehicle makes its global debut at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show in November.

The Nissan Rogue, following three straight years of sales growth since the introduction of the completely redesigned second generation for the 2014 model year, takes another major step forward for 2017 with a new look, enhanced utility and an expanded suite of Nissan Safety Shield technologies. And, in an expansion of the Rogue lineup, a new gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain – available in two grade levels and a choice of front-wheel or all-wheel drive – is offered for the first time in Rogue history. Rogue Hybrid will join the lineup by the end of 2016.

As in previous years, the 2017 Rogue offers optional 3-row/7-passenger seating, along with exceptional passenger and cargo flexibility with its innovative EZ Flex Seating System™ and Divide-N-Hide® Cargo System (not available with Rogue Hybrid).

Updated exterior features include a new, dynamic front end design with Nissan signature design cues, available Motion-Activated Liftgate, and new available Safety Shield technologies such as Intelligent Cruise Control3 and Forward Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection2.

Among the interior enhancements found in the 2017 Rogue are a new D-shaped steering wheel and leather-booted sport-mode shifter, and available heated steering wheel, memory for driver"s seats and mirror, and remote engine start4. Enhanced interior materials and design features include new door and instrument panel finishers, new shift knob design, revised center console and console lid, and new seat fabric. The result is a more premium look and feel throughout the roomy Rogue cabin. Also new is a Platinum Reserve Interior Package highlighted by special tan leather-appointed seats with quilted leather inserts.

All 2017 Rogue models (non-hybrid) are equipped with a responsive 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 170 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. The engine is matched with an advanced Xtronic transmission with standard Sport Mode and Eco switches. The 2017 Rogue is available with an intuitive All-Wheel Drive system or front-wheel drive.

Fuel economy5 is rated at 26 mpg city, 33 mpg highway and 29 mpg combined for front-wheel drive models. Rogue AWD models are rated at 25 mpg city, 32 mpg highway and 27 mpg combined5.

Nissan has been selling the Qashqai subcompact crossover for several years in other parts of the world. Now it"s coming stateside, but it won"t retain the global name, which is difficult to pronounce and spell. Instead, it will borrow the well-known and profitable moniker from its larger sibling, the Rogue, with the word "Sport" tagged onto it. Nissan is marketing the Rogue Sport as slightly smaller and sportier than the family-friendly Rogue, which is its best-selling US nameplate. The smaller part is not up for debate. The Sport is a foot shorter in overall length with a 2.3-inch squatter wheelbase. It"s 5.6 inches shorter in height, and at just over five feet tall, one can see right over the thing while standing next to it. Total cargo space is down by 8.9 cubic feet, with most of that coming from behind the second row of seats. Front legroom is virtually unchanged, but rear legroom is down by 4.5 inches in the Sport. It"s marketed toward younger, more urban buyers compared to the Rogue – generally, people with no children who are looking for "just enough space," Nissan says. It"s definitely compact, especially when you behold it from the outside. In the driver"s seat we get the sense we"re in a bigger vehicle thanks to the upright position and a beltline that doesn"t creep too high. The front row feels spacious, and had we not seen the car from outside beforehand, we could"ve been fooled into believing we were sitting in a CUV from the next segment up in size. Even with the moonroof, headroom feels ample. As for the rear seat, there are no illusions there. It"s a bit more cramped, particularly when it comes to legroom, but it seems a perfectly comfortable place to ride around town for an evening, if not for an extended road trip. The "sportier" part of the equation is arguable, especially considering the Rogue Sport has a smaller engine than the Rogue. Its 2.0-liter four-cylinder motor produces a modest 141 horsepower and 147 pound-feet of torque. Even less sporty, that power is sent to the wheels through a CVT. Despite feeling like a larger vehicle, it definitely drives like a smaller car. With its target market in mind, the Rogue Sport is designed more for urban duty than the suburban lifestyle of the larger Rogue. It"s maneuverable and at home on Nashville"s narrow and crowded streets. We were impressed with the Rogue Sport"s ability to navigate a tightly packed garage with the help of an outside bystander. It"s a little hard to see the corners of the car, which adds to the illusion of size. To make the most of its tight packaging in a confined space, the Around View Monitor camera system is available (it"s standard in the SL) making helpful bystanders obsolete. While it is still as wide as the larger Rogue, we found that the Rogue Sport"s shorter length and wheelbase made it easier to get into tighter parking spaces, even …

The 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport is a small crossover utility vehicle that’s effectively a cut-down version of the very popular Nissan Rogue, a large compact SUV.

The new Rogue Sport is a foot shorter and almost 6 inches lower than the Rogue, and it’s intended for younger buyers who may not yet have a family—and for whom smaller dimensions make city parking easier. Three trim levels are offered: the base S, the mid-level SV, and the top SL; all-wheel drive is available as an option on all three.

Nissan suggests the competitors for the new Rogue Sport are the Honda HR-V, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, and Mazda CX-3. Reflecting the variety of approaches taken by carmakers to splitting the crossover utility vehicle segment more and more finely, others might include the Chevrolet Trax and the Toyota C-HR. Just to make things a bit more complicated, Nissan also sells an even smaller crossover as well, the aging Juke with its outré styling. It"ll shortly be replaced by a new model previewed by the Kicks concept, but for the moment, the Rogue Sport is the freshest smallish SUV in the lineup.

We liked the Rogue Sport for its straightforward but well-made interior, its comfortable front seats, and its style. Design is important to the target audience, Nissan says, and its surveys indicate that despite their similar front ends, buyers see the Rouge Sport as a different, sportier, and better-looking car than the more family-oriented Rogue.

We would also have liked a little more “sport” in a car called the Rogue Sport: it’s not that it handles badly, just that it’s entirely average on that score—and not all that much sportier, frankly, than the bigger Rogue.

Overall, we scored the 2017 Rogue Sport at 5.4 out of 10 points, slightly better than average. That score may rise soon, however, once safety data is available. (Read more abouthow we rate cars.)

"The 2017+1/2 Rogue has a crude interface for its age. The map software is inaccurate. The display is not high resolution and not bright enough.. The POI"s are genereic no commercial logs(restaurant cross knifie and folk instead of arches or corporate logo. generic gas pump instead of shell). No on screen turn by turn list showing interstate exits, services rest areas. The whole user interface is non intuitive. Radio presets are small numbered square graphic pads. You don;t know what station you programmed until you press the button. All distractions when you are taking a long range trip and you have to take your eyes off of the road."

"The software system was rebooted soon after I purchased the car, and again late 2019 when the seatbelt light remained on while the seatbelts were being used."

"Front automatic braking system unexpectedly activated while driving slowly in our apartment’s garage. Nissan dealer took this seriously and checked calibration but could find nothing wrong. It happened again in about the same place. Something about the garage lighting or environment seems to trigger the system."

"Rear hatch window leaked water into the rear cargo area. This was a known problem. Nissan had a fix for it if you complained about it. I believe window was removed resealed during installation."

"This has to do more with dishonesty on the part of the dealership. I picked up the car in November 2017. Parked it in my driveway with my other car, endured 3 months of snowy weather, then heater fan stopped working. Took it to Nissan, said they would take care of it only to call me back to tell me there was a nest of mice in the blower. I have parked my cars in my driveway for almost 20 years with no issues and all of a sudden I have a problem three months after I get this vehicle (after a winter of very cold and very snowy weather). If there was a nest(BIG if), it probably occurred while in their possession prior to my purchase, or it was a scam to charge me for repairs that should have been covered by warranty. Also, car was slowly leaking oil from engine gasket. I took it to dealership and their mechanic had apparently cleaned the leak, and tightened the bolts, but told me there was no leak, as they had cleaned the leak. Again, dishonest dealership."

"AC stops producing cold air after 20-30 minutes, especially on hot summer days. the fan speed also reduces to a trickle and it sounds as if the air has been diverted elsewhere."

"The torque converter causes excessive vibration at coasting speeds. The dealer agree there was an issue, but Nissan refused to do anything about it."
