New RVDU Display is ideal solution for adding a rugged LCD touchscreen display to support 360 degree and rear-view reversing camera video display functionality to ground vehicles
rugged displays designed to meet the unique requirements of military ground vehicles. The new Rugged Video Display Unit (RVDU) is a 7-inch 800 x 480 pixel LCD display ideal for adding general-purpose video imagery capability such as 360-degree situational awareness, rear-view reversing camera, equipment monitoring, and flexible display functionality to size, weight, power, and cost (SWaP-C) constrained platforms. System integrators seek low-cost display solutions that maintain reliability in harsh environments. Today, modern ground vehicles increasingly depend on a proliferation of mounted cameras to provide a view of the outside environment, such as a rear-view reversing camera. This camera imagery can be viewed in small, affordable displays that can, for example, aid in the prevention of accidents. The compact, widescreen RVDU supports up to two video inputs, which can be configured as either CVBS (composite video) inputs or digital. With superior viewing, the display’s ambient light sensors automatically change the screen brightness to the optimal setting for visibility in any light conditions, while its LED backlight provides a clear, crisp picture. The unit’s CAN bus control interface supports seamless software upgrades and eases interface with other Curtiss-Wright video management solutions such as those in the Rugged Video Gateway (RVG) product line.
“Increasingly, ground vehicle operators and crews are depending on mounted cameras to enhance their situational awareness and avoid accidents,” said Lynn Bamford, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Defense and Power. “With the introduction of our new low-cost, rugged 7-inch RVDU display we strengthen our commitment to providing the market with the widest offering of ground vehicle displays built to perform and maintain reliability in the battlefield where our warfighters require maximum situational awareness for mission success.”
Curtiss-Wright offers a full range of rugged ground vehicle displays designed for use in extreme environments and applications. In addition to the 7-inch RVDU, the GVDU range of displays is available in 10.4, 12.1, and 15.6- inch (for larger sizes, such as 17 and 21.5-inch, contact the factory) these SWaP-optimized displays are fully qualified to established military environmental standards and support a wide variety of video sources. RVDU and GVDU displays can operate stand-alone or as part of an integrated video management system (VMS) that includes Curtiss-Wright’s RVG products and the VRDV7000 video recorder.
Furthermore, the market is anticipated to grow at a significant rate in the coming years as well as the region is witnessing a robust demand for remote monitoring solutions, interactive display modules, HMIs, and the growing uptake of IoT-based technologies in the industrial sector. This trend is likely to provide impetus to the market.
Furthermore, the market has witnessed expansion at a good pace in recent years owing to the increasing acceptance of LED and LCDs, coupled with the rising adoption of IoT-based technologies.
