how to glue lcd screen manufacturer
This is the only option and is available in many sizes. The glass touchscreen on majority of phones/tablets do not come in direct contact with the actual LCD, it is connected via ribbon connector.
For Samsung phones you have to use a UV activated liquid adhesive but it must dry crystal clear and you do need to purchase a UV light to activate the glue.
I have no idea what type of adhesive Apple products use but I am sure it would cost a lot and you probably will need a vacuum type screen seperator machine.
If your device is cost effective to repair, you are familiar with delicate electronics and have patience then I would try it but you have to purchase screen repair tools from someplace such as eBay that sells these sets for cheap.
LOCA or Liquid Optically Clear Adhesive is kind of special UV glue or sealant used to bond display / LCD Screen and touch screen panels. It is also called UV Glue. Most technicians prefer to use LOCA Glue or UV Glue over other glue or sealants because it improves contrast by many times. It also prevents loss of light from the display and hence increases the life of Mobile Phone Battery.
In order to replace a faulty, broken or damaged glass / touch panel (PDA) of LCD Screen of a mobile phone or smartphone, you will need following Mobile Phone Repairing Tools:
Separating the glass from the LCD should be done very carefully to avoid any unwanted damage. Special care must be undertaken if the glass is cracked. Never try to take off the glass without the right tools and equipment. It can damage the LCD which can be very costly to replace.
The glass and LCD are strongly bonded together with LOCA glue. The glue must be heated to loosen the bond. It can be done using a Hot Air Gun / Heat Gun. Technicians with some practice can easily do it. However, in most authorized service centers and professional service centers, they use LCD separator machine.
Use a Hot Air Gun or LCD Separator Machine, to give heat to the LCD to Loosen the bond of the LOCA glue. In both cases, a temperature of 200-300 Degree C is OK.
Gradually and evenly heat the front side of the phone. Use the Infrared Thermometer to check the temperature before trying to remove the glass. Make sure there is neither too much heat nor too little heat. Too much heat will burn the LCD screen while too little heat might crack it.
Start removing the glass from the top of the screen where speaker is located. Use the metal spudger to carefully separate the glass from the LCD screen. Move the spudger along the top edge and make enough space for the putty knife to slip in.
Reheat the surface and using the putty knife, carefully pry the glass away. After removing the Glass, use the Goof Off or Hot Blade to remove existing melted LOCA glue and clean the LCD screen using lint-free wipes. Some service centers and technicians also use automated LOCA removing machine.
LOCA glue is available in the form of liquid. It is not as thick as other adhesives. Apply just enough glue on to the screen in a “X” pattern with a “-” in the middle of “X”. Make sure not to apply too much or too little glue and see that there is no air bubble.
The adhesive will gradually spread across the screen and to the edges on its own without you having to apply any pressure. If there is any bubble, apply gentle pressure on the LCD and guide the bubble to the edge.
LOCA Glue do not cure or dry on its own. You have to dry it using UV light. Always Use a branded UV light that is about 30 to 40 Watts. You can also use a UV nail dryer. But do not use Flashlight UV lights.
Curing or Drying time of the Glue is generally 1 to 2 minutes. It also depends on the Wattage of the UV light source and the distance between the UV light source and the LCD Screen or Glass.

Choice of proper curing mechanism -- UV curable adhesives are generally more reliable and less susceptible to bubble formation. Thermal curing materials can cause adhesive flow and air gap generation.
Automated dispensing process -- Manual dispensing, as noted above, is inconsistent and prone to mistakes and potential voids in coating. The use of automation is an obvious solution.
Autoclave or vacuum during bonding process -- The incorporation of an autoclave stage or introduction of optimized vacuum conditions will result in more consistent thickness, curing, and proper degassing of the adhesive when bonded.
Degassing step before dispensing -- Degassing before application remains one of the most effective and simple approaches and can often be enough to eliminate bubble issues on its own.

I"m talking about an LCD like what is shown in the picture below. Can hot glue applied to its borders damage the liquid crystal molecules or anything else inside it?
Typically, standard LCD character and graphics modules provide a temperature range of 0°C to +50°C. However, several display manufacturers offer extreme temperature models with operating temperatures of -40°C to +80 or +85°C. There also is a wide selection of standard versions that range from -20°C to +70°C
If this is true, it may not be safe to use hot glue for this purpose. However, since hot glue is applied for less than one minute to a small fraction of the area I"m not sure.

Stockwell Elastomerics is a leading provider of gaskets for touch screens, displays and integrated touch panel assemblies that serve several functions: sealing, load distributing, gap filling, mechanical shock protection and over-press cushioning.
The obvious location is to seal the enclosure at the edge of the viewing area of the enclosure. The sealing function can be for simple dust sealing, light water exposure such as occasional water drips or cleaning or even more aggressive outdoor applications where there is heavy water exposure.
Often a touch screen gasket or display gasket will help spread the compression load of the housing or bezel on the display. Without a gasket, the enclosure that holds the display in place can create pressure points on the display. In some cases, these pressures can cause distortions, false contacts or short circuits.
Similar to load distributing, touch panel gaskets are used to fill gaps between the screen and the display and/or the screen and bezel. The display gasket will take up gaps generated by tolerance stack-ups in the device.
Display gaskets offer some degree of cushioning to protect the display from damage due to mechanical shock. In the event that a device is dropped or banged, the gasket will act as a touchscreen cushion, offering a limited amount of protection.
Touchscreen gaskets also serve as display cushions when a user presses on the display too hard. The gasket deflects, takes up and spreads the load offering some protection from over-press or overloading in a small area.
LCD dust seals and touch screen dust seals are the most basic requirement of display gasketing. These are often static (not portable), indoor applications where the device is not to be exposed to water. Sealing can be achieved by closed cell sponge materials or fine pore open cell materials such as PORON urethane foam.
Portable electronics or touchscreens used by the public such as gaming touchscreens or indoor information kiosks inevitably will be exposed to some water. This can come from cleaning and beverage splashing, or for portable devices – rain. These electronic devices are also more likely to be exposed to mechanical shocks, such as banging or dropping. Closed cell or compressed microcellular foam materials will offer more protection against incidental, light water exposure.
Outdoor displays such as outdoor information kiosks, ATMs and remote monitoring equipment require more design consideration. To contend with environments such as direct or wind-driven rain, sealing an enclosure, case or housing from ingress requires the proper material as well as proper compression on the gasket. Silicone foam or silicone sponge materials are preferred. Silicone gaskets remain flexible at low temperatures allowing for continued sealing against melting ice and snow as well as protecting against mechanical shock where many other materials will firm up in the cold and transfer energy. Other key features are: closed cell structure, low-stress relaxation, UV and ozone resistance, and general long life.
Ruggedized electronics typically need to withstand much more aggressive environments. This may include passing rain or wash down tests such as IP65, IP66 and possibly IP67. Beyond sealing, they often need to survive the cold soak drop test, tumbling, EMI susceptibility, and a variety of other tests depending on usage. View more information on ruggedizing electronics.
Light leaking is sometimes a concern with certain LCD or LED display applications. This can be addressed with black gasketing with either a very thin adhesive or a black supported adhesive. A common material configuration for this is soft PORON urethane foam with 3M 9795B adhesive. The 3M 9795B is a film supported double coat adhesive with a black PET support layer that does not pipe light.
Touchscreen gaskets and display gaskets tend to have narrow walls that don’t always lend themselves to easy installation. This can be addressed in a few ways such as fixturing or utilizing the centers as temporary supports. The preferred adhesives for touchscreen gaskets and display gaskets are repositionable adhesives such as Adchem 8311M or 3M 9415 depending on the bond strength required. Stockwell Elastomerics also offers medium and high bond strength adhesives for permanent bonding. View the current listing of pressure sensitive adhesive options.
Most touch panel or touch screen manufacturers offer guidelines for gasketing. These typically show the active screen area, viewing area, and the gasket area. The manufacturer offers various recommendations on adhesive strength and gasket material type, but caution should be taken since each application will vary.
Broad recommendations such as “closed cell foam” do not take into consideration factors such as stress relaxation, compression set, long term sealing performance, outgassing, plasticizer interaction, cost, and manufacturability. Over-designing the gasket can drive the cost up, whereas under designing could result in damaged devices and leaks when the units are in the field. Stockwell Elastomerics can offer guidance on design and manufacturability of touchscreen gaskets or touch panel gaskets. Key design points include:
The interior opening of the gasket should follow the touch screen manufacturer’s recommendation that stays clear of the active area. The outer dimension are defined by the available space behind the bezel or in the case. A rough rule of thumb is that the gasket wall should be 1.5x the thickness. (Example: .062″ thick gasket should have a gasket with .093″ or greater flange width.) This allows for die cutting and makes for a stable gasket when installed. A gasket that is taller than it is wide tends to fold over during compression. The exception to this is when the gasket is captive in a groove.
It is important to keep in mind the clamping loads. While wider gasket walls generally seal better, the overall surface area is directly related to the loads applied to the LCD and touchscreen. Compression Force Deflection curves of various materials are available to aid designers.
Some housing designs allow the touch panel gasket to wrap around the sides to make a tighter fit in the housing. Wrapping the gasket also gives the touch panel assembly additional cushioning for mechanical shock.
Proper compression of the gasket is critical to sealing. A rigid bezel or frame is required to prevent bowing between fasteners. Softer materials can help offset this however there are some limitations. Closed cell gasket materials help prevent wicking through the material but may not be soft enough. Soft open cell materials can be used but require more than 50% deflection (.062″ thick deflected to .031″ thick) in order to close the cell openings.
The gasket thickness will depend on the designed gap in the enclosure, the fastening scheme, rigidity of the housing and the level of sealing required. Many touch screen gaskets are thin and soft but as the display gets larger the tolerance stacks typically get larger as well. This may require a thicker gasket depending on the fastener locations.
PORON microcellular urethane foams are designed for electronic applications, therefore there are many standards, off-the-shelf thickness and firmness options available. Further, PORON is cast to an accurate thickness tolerance. PORON in thickness of .062″ and greater is cast to ± 10%. This is a very tight tolerance for a cellular gasketing material.
Designing the touch panel gasket for manufacturability can keep costs down – both part cost and touch panel assembling cost. For mid- and high-volume quantities, die cutting is the preferred method. A steel rule die can be produced quickly and inexpensively to allow the gasket to be kiss-cut against the adhesive release liner. Kiss-cutting allows the gasket installer to peel the gasket from a roll. Kiss-cut parts drastically improve throughput during assembly as compared to individually removing a liner from a loose part.
Some OEMs and contract manufacturers prefer to have the center of the gasket remain in place, held in place with small, breakaway tabs. Leaving the centers intact allows for easier positioning on the display when a fixture is not being used. Low tack, clean peeling adhesive is needed.
Specification requirements help with material selection, for example, NEMA 4, IP 65 or IP 66 will require closed cell or solid materials in order to pass testing. Less aggressive requirements such as NEMA 12 and IP 54 allow for more material options.
Typical UL specifications are UL 94, UL 508 (UL 60947) and UL 50. UL 94 addresses a flame requirement, UL 508 (UL 60947) is suitability for industrial controls, and UL 50 and UL 50E are for gasketing. Other UL specifications may apply depending on how and where the end product is being used.

With increasing digitization in all areas of our lives, more and more monitors and touchscreens are being used. In addition to smartphone, tablet and TV screens, almost all modern household appliances, including washing machines, dishwashers and refrigerators, are now equipped with displays.
High-end monitors are demanding: they must be comfortable to read, they must be shatterproof, and they must remain legible for the lifetime of the product. This is especially challenging for displays in cars and smartphones or cameras, as they are not expected to turn yellow despite exposure to sunlight and other climatic stressors. Deepmaterial’s specially formulated optical adhesive is designed to be optically clear and non-yellowing (LOCA = Liquid Optically Clear Adhesive). They are flexible enough to intercept thermal stress between different substrates and reduce Mura defects. The adhesive exhibits excellent adhesion to ITO-coated glass, PMMA, PET and PC and cures within seconds under UV light. Dual cure adhesives are available which react to atmospheric moisture and cure reliably in shaded areas within the display frame.
To protect the display from external influences such as atmospheric humidity, dust and cleaning agents, Deepmaterial Form-in-Place Gaskets (FIPG) can be used to bond and seal the display and touchscreen simultaneously.
Due to the high aesthetic demands and demands on visually flawless components in LED screens, LCD displays and OLED screens, optically clear adhesives and other components that support display technology are some of the most difficult raw materials to handle, manufacture and assemble. Display technology requires material capabilities and supporting components to enhance screen performance, reduce battery requirements, and optimize end-consumer interaction with electronic display devices. .
As adoption of the Internet of Things (“IoT”) continues, display technology continues to proliferate in most end-consumer applications, now in transportation applications, point-of-care medical devices, home appliances and other white goods, computing equipment, industrial equipment Discovery, medical wearables, and traditional apps like smartphones and tablets.
Deepmaterials were early pioneers in display technology that improved reliability, functionality and performance while reducing power consumption. Our raw material expertise, long-term strategic relationships with the largest innovators in display materials science, and world-class manufacturing in a sophisticated cleanroom environment allow us to help customers reduce design and procurement costs by enabling early innovation in display technology complexity. Samsung’s new foldables are quite impressive, and the company has focused on making them as durable as possible — but sometimes, accidents happen. We asked Samsung how much it would cost to replace a Z Flip or Z Fold 3’s screen should something happen to it, and here’s what the company told us.
Samsung provides a one year warranty with the phones, so if your screen breaks in a way that’s covered, you shouldn’t have to pay for a repair. Out of warranty, fixing the interior folding screen of a Z Fold 3 costs $479. Doing the same for a Z Flip 3 costs $369. Thankfully, the external displays are much less expensive — fixing a broken outer screen will set you back $149 for the Fold and $99 for the Flip.
Samsung also offers its Samsung Care Plus subscription, which costs $12.99 a month for either phone (though Samsung is currently running a preorder deal where you don’t have to make Care Plus payments for 12 months). For Care Plus subscribers, Samsung says there’s a $249 charge for an out-of-warranty screen repair. You can get one of these $249 repairs up to three times in a year. Care Plus also extends your warranty for two more years after the original expires.
For traditional, non-folding phones, there’s often the option to repair the screen yourself, which can end up costing less than having the manufacturer do it. However, for Samsung’s new foldables, this isn’t likely to be easy. Samsung’s aforementioned push for durability means the phones are filled with a lot of sticky, hard to remove stuff like tape, glue, and goo. The company says the folding screens are made out of multiple layers, which are sealed with a “pressure-sensitive adhesive.” As someone who’s taken apart their share of devices, that sounds like an absolute nightmare.
That said, this isn’t much of a change. It’s not like Samsung’s previous foldables were particularly easy to repair. And while the company’s prices are higher than those for more traditional phone repairs — a broken iPhone 12 screen costs $279 to replace; a Galaxy S21 5G’s costs $199 — Samsung is actually charging less than it used to. According to Samsung’s site, the Z Fold 2’s inner screen costs $549 to replace out of warranty and the Z Flip 5G’s costs $499, though depending on when you bought the phone, you may be eligible for a one-time replacement for significantly less.
Correction: a previous version of this article quoted Samsung as saying that the $249 Samsung Care Plus deductible covered three screen repairs per year. The company has told us it was incorrect. Samsung Care Plus customers will need to pay the $249 deductible for each screen repair, up to three a year.
