Robin series motherboards adopt 32-bit ARM chips, support TFT touch screens of various sizes (2.4 / 2.8 / 3.2 / 3.5 / 4.3).Can achieve a variety of functions, such as breakpoint recovery, filament detection, Auto-off function, wifi transmission and other functions. The hardware has been open sourced, supporting makerbase’s independently developed firmware and marlin 2.0 open source firmware. Based on customer needs. Innovate our products.

Compared with FDM technology, LCD SLA technology is favored by the market due to an order of magnitude improvement in accuracy, but the market coverage rate is far inferior to FDM technology. Of course, there are various factors such as high cost, few solutions, and consumable limitations. To this end, MKS independently developed the MKS DLP motherboard and its supporting software to advance the development of LCD SLA 3D printing in terms of cost and solution.

Today I had a bit of success powering up my MKS Robin Nano V3.1 board, until the monitor presented a white screen of death. Like a white flag, I guess; we give up, MKS is saying. So I immediately when to Youtube where MKS has their own channel, and searched for White Screen of Death. MKS"s video, which had so audible narration, told me to edit the config.h file for the Robin Nano 2.0 board / I bought the 3.1 version with the 2.0 TFT screen. So, bottom line, by following MKS"s instruction, and using the Assets File and the .bin file for Robin_nano_3.0 (I think that"s what it was), which I put on a newly formatted SD card, which I put in the card reader on the board, and then powered the board on again, all went well. But that"s not exactly true. The 3.1 files for the MKS Robin_Nano 3.1 include .bin files for the 2009 Stepper Drivers and the BLTouch on them; the files from the 2.0 Robin_nano do not. It looks like I"ll be able to "program" the BLTouch and UART / 2009 stepper drivers on the little monitor, but boy, that"s going to be horrible to do. Anyway, just thought I"d let the Internet know. For $75 plus tax / free shipping, this wasn"t a "bad" buy, but it really makes me wonder what"s going on with MKS? I get it that Covid has make a lot of people"s lives miserable, and worse, but I hope we"ll all get back to a place where we"re willing to at least try to get things right. MKS makes a lot of products that interest me. They"re a big company based on their internet presence. Language is an issue (I"m and english-speaking person) (not that it matters, in my humble opinion), but product support would be appreciated? Thanks, MKS, I hope you"ll answer my question on youtube.

UPDATE: I"ve posted a variety of questions on some of MKS"s Youtube videos. So far, ZERO RESPONSE. I get it. This board is ANCIENT. I paid $75 for it, and a monitor, and 2209 steppers. Let"s just ignore the fact that the WIFi us USE-LESS. There"s ZERO infrastructure to support it. MKS is proving to me that they have left the building, and I"m thinking I should to. I have NO PROBLEM requesting a return on this product. NO PROBLEM WHATSOEVER. Will I ever buy another MKS product? Will the world come to a crashing stop? It"s possible, especially if you-know-who gets back to the you-know-what, but even then, no, I will not spend a dime on a company that does not care. Frankly, Amazon should refuse to sell MKS products until MKS gets themselves together.

In my JGAurora A5 printer, it is run by a pair of MakerBase modules. The printer is run by a Makerbase MKS Gen L motherboard, which runs the open-source Marlin firmware. The printer LCD screen is an entirely separate component, and here JGAurora have used the MKS TFT28 LCD module, which is an entirely proprietary product.

In the A5, the MKS LCD module is responsible for reading files off the USB stick, and for sending those gcode commands to the main motherboard, line by line.

The filament run-out sensor is connected to the LCD module only. If you print a gcode file via a USB cable directly to the main motherboard (e.g. via octopi or pronterface) the main motherboard is unable to read this sensor and you lose that feature.

Recently, I have encountered some people having problems with the printer making random spurious incorrect movements now and then. Printing the file via the SD card socket on the LCD module works perfectly, but printing the same file from the USB port would result in strange glitch detours every now and then.

By enabling debug mode on the marlin firmware (M111 S7), we were able to make the main motherboard echo back every command it received. Comparing the output, with the gcode input file, there seemed to be random sections of gcode missing! Randomly, a line of gcode would stop, and then several lines would skip, and then printing would resume.

I also verified that the checksum of all lines received by the main LCD were valid – even the line that appeared to be an error! This is the line received by the main motherboard that is responsible for the long blip:

This indicates that in some cases, problems can occur with the MKS LCD module reading data off USB sticks. Different USB sticks were tried with no change. Several MKS LCD firmware updates have been released, but this issue was not fixed with the latest version.
