This stems from the fact that the LCD controller itself does not inherently support the function and in fact treats the ASCII codes for and as displayable characters instead of control codes.

The fact that the LiquidCrystal library inherits from Print class and thus permits the use of println() essentially makes things worse. Instead of barfing and spitting out an error message it just happily displays two unrelated characters on the screen and the uninitiated have no idea of the cause.

In my opinion the basic LiquidCrystal library should concentrate on implementing all of the capabilities of the LCD controller and no more. If people want a library that more closely emulates a CRT (or LCD) terminal that is fine, but I think it should be done in a different library.

5. Check if the signal cable (VGA / DVI / HDMI / DisplayPort / USB ) is connected well, and confirmed another end of the output cable has been firmly connected to computer input port (graphics card). Unplug and plug 2-terminals again and make sure all the pins aren"t bent.

Any kind of quote will do, but because the picture frame scrolls through the images that will contain the quotes it works best if you keep the quotes short. Longer quotes, although interesting, may not remain on screen long enough to be read. Look at the sample images stored on your LCD picture frame. For my frame, all of the sample images were 856x480 pixels. To determine this, right click on the image file, and select Properties. We do this because it helps prevent the software driving the frame from cropping or stretching the images unnecessarily. Click Home on the ribbon.

At this point, your presentation should have two slides: The initial default title slide, and your newly inserted blank slide. Click on the first slide (the title slide), click your right mouse button, and select delete. You should be left with a single blank slide in your presentation, sized to the native image size of your LCD picture frame.

In many cases, the picture won’t fill the slide because it’s in a different format than the native format for the LCD picture frame. Thus, we’ll need to resize the image to fit. At the same time, we don’t want to distort the image either. Here’s the most straightforward approach:

4. My LCD picture frame doesn’t let you change the display time for pictures, and some of the transitions happen too quickly to allow you to read the entire quote. You can do what I did, which was to make two copies of every slide. PowerPoint is creative in its naming; the slides are called Slide1.jpg, Slide2.jpg, et cetera. Another alternative for printing character strings without quotes is provided by the print function. Within the print function we have to specify the quote argument to be equal to the logical value FALSE:

We just noticed that some help topics displayed in Chrome have text that is appearing with symbols instead of quotation marks - only when the quotes are "curly quotes". I strongly suspect that this issue occurred when text was copied from Word documents (though we do try to avoid doing that). So the result is that the HTML5 cannot resolve the "curly quotes", but can of course resolve the text when the ". tag surrounds the text. Liquid crystal display (LCD) is a flat panel display that uses the light modulating properties of liquid crystals. Liquid crystals do not produce light directly, instead using a backlight or reflector to produce images in colour or monochrome.

As ever in book design the aim is to make the designer’s thought processes invisible to the reader. So you don’t need to clobber the reader with markers of difference between text and quoted matter. You can set your display quotations (called block quotes in America) in smaller type; you can indent them left and right, or just left; you can set them unjustified (ragged right); or you can leave extra space above and below. You should avoid over-marking the display: in other words if it’s set smaller and indented left, don’t feel you also have to leave extra space above and below. The reader just needs to know they are moving from the author’s words to some supporting words from another authority (who will of course be identified by some proper referencing system). After a couple of instances the reader will subconsciously be able to acknowledge the move from one to the other: they should never need to have any thoughts or feelings about the matter. Your monitor possibly has TRU-Vu’s Dim-To-Black feature which allows you to control the screen’s brightness and contrast by pressing the arrow keys in the menu. The reason it has gone completely black could be because the dim-to-black was turned all the way down. Press the arrow up to the right to raise the brightness again. If this does nothing, try pressing the left arrow keys.
