Apparently if you put too much pressure on one portion of screen, then what happened to yours is what looks like the actual LCD beneath the covering (I believe the outer covering is called the Digitizer and the actual LCD screen is beneath).

Well. Back to your Q...do Internet search for "iPhone 3GS LCD replacement" and you will come across many hits. There are YouTube videos about how to fix yourself from some of these companies that sell aftermarket LCDs.

If you"re not handy, I don"t recommend you try an aftermarket on your own, but it could save you more than $50. Going rate appears to be ~$30 DIY kit and up to $100 for someone to replace LCD screen.
