FCA announced on July 3 that FCA chose July 4th to introduce the new Fiat 500 to the public. Additionally, it will be displayed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, and go on sale shortly after.

The 2016 Fiat 500 stands out from the current model due to a new front bumper with a large air dam framed by a thin strip of chrome trim, oval LED daytime running lights, and new-look headlights and redesigned tail lamps.

The Fiat 500 may be ordered with a five-inch touch screen running Chrysler"s Uconnect infotainment system, as well as a new 7"" TFT display, developed in collaboration with Magneti Marelli.

In Europe, the 500 is available with a 1.2-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 69 hp, a 0.9-liter TwinAir two-cylinder engine offered with either 85 or 105 hp, or a two-cylinder 1.2 liter 69 hp EasyPower (LPG/petrol).

Fiat SpA will switch to a 7-inch-tall thin-film transistor display in place of the usual speedometer and other gauges in its lineup of 2015 model 500 minicars.

The system will be standard in Abarth, Lounge, Sport and Turbo models and optional in the base Pop. Fiat will publicly introduce the display next week at the New York auto show.

The TFT screen"s default display shows an image of the vehicle surrounded by such information as speed, fuel level, range and miles traveled. The driver can select telephone and radio screens that show call information and station selected, respectively.

In sport mode, the display changes to a more "aggressive" appearance, according to Fiat. For cars equipped with a backup camera, the screen becomes a rear-looking video display when the car"s transmission is in reverse gear.

Details on the 2015 Fiat 500, which will feature a handful of updates, have now been released a week before the car is showcased at the 2014 New York Auto Show.

The most significant change is a 7-inch TFT (Thin-Film Transistor) display in the instrument cluster, which places the speed readout prominently in the center, along with an image of the car.

These models are currently available only with a five-speed manual, while other gasoline 500 models are available with either a manual or automatic transmission.

Fiat has not released updated fuel economy numbers for 2015, but the 2014 500 is EPA-rated at 34 mpg combined (31 mpg city, 40 mpg highway) with the manual transmission, and 30 mpg combined (27 mpg city, 34 mpg highway) with the automatic.

The manual-only 2014 500 Turbo has identical combined and highway ratings to the non-turbocharged, automatic 500, but gains 1 mpg city, figures shared with the Abarth models.

What I thought of doing, if the original radio needed to be connected, is to hide it out of the way in the boot and run whatever wires as an extension, tapping into the original loom back into the car but from what I can gather, the original radio has standard ISO A/B/C. Also, I would have thought if it had anything to do with the radio, it would have worked when I plugged the original back in with the TFT.

This guy (http://www.fiatforum.com/500/434392-ret ... uster.html) is running a 2015 cluster in a 2008 car and he"s not reported any issues - the date on the speedo matched the post"s date!

It seems like the TFT has defaulted to a template that contains different menu features for different markets. Just need to activate the template somehow! It still doesn"t explain why the most basic feature of setting the time and date isn"t available though.

On the day orders opened for the New 500 «la Prima» hatchback, Olivier François – President Fiat Brand Global – tells the story of the New 500 and its first test drive. The video is available at link

The New 500’s dealer tour of Italy continues: around 40 stops the full length of the peninsula to discover Fiat"s new icon with zero CO2 emissions. The program will be extended to the French and German markets in September.

In the video presenting the test first drive, Olivier François – President Fiat Brand Global – wanted to take all fans of the 500 on board the New 500 «la Prima» in the best way possible, to be the first to experience the FCA city car with zero CO2 emissions, passing the symbolic Turin locations that have made history for Fiat’s icon.

“We usually take a new car onto the road for the first time with the cameras off. But for the New 500, I decided to take you with me! The first test drive of the New Fiat 500,” said Olivier François, “is a very special moment, even a slightly magical one. A ‘vision’ coming true. Teamwork taking shape. To tell the truth, it"s also a very challenging time”. The head of Fiat therefore ‘takes’ the public on a voyage of discovery of the many wonders of the gem of beauty, innovation, technology and sustainability that is the New 500.

A thrilling journey, starting from the Mirafiori plant, where the New 500 is manufactured: in its 81 years, the Mirafiori complex has made history in the Italian and global automotive industry. Opened in 1939, the Turin plant marked the beginning of modern production for Fiat and is still one of the longest running European automotive factories. A new chapter now begins with the production of the third-generation Fiat 500: the Group has developed a new transformation, starting right from the beating heart of the complex and its production. Around 1,200 people will work solely on manufacturing the New 500, while the production capacity will be 80,000 units per year, which could increase as necessary. In total – between the costs of design, development and engineering and the construction of the production line – it represents an investment of over €700 million. Even better, the New 500 was created, designed and engineered right here in Turin: a product truly “Made at Fiat” and “Made in Turin”.

The next stage of the test drive on board the New 500 will be Lingotto, the former Fiat factory with a track on its roof, the site of pre-delivery quality testing on the first-generation Fiat 500. The factory has now been converted into a museum, the home of the Pinacoteca Agnelli art gallery. Its fourth floor hosts the “Virtual Casa 500”, an online exhibition to preview the full opening to the public of the Casa 500 in spring 2021.

Olivier François" journey aboard the electric 500 then continues along the boulevards of the regional capital at the foot of the Alps and ends on the Monte dei Cappuccini, close to the city center, on the right bank of the river Po, with its breathtaking views of the city and the Alps. An amazing place, to admire the clear blue sky of a gorgeous summer’s day. “Since the end of lockdown, we have all learned to appreciate life in the great outdoors even more and the preciousness of the environment around us,” continued the head of Fiat. “Preserving that environment is up to us, too.”

Just one more reason to opt for the New 500: beautiful, innovative and ecological. An environment-friendly car, one to meet the requirements of customers who wish to drive the car of the future, with its Italian taste and elegance. Orders opened in July for the “la Prima” cabrio, a resounding success, demonstrated by a steady increase in orders. From today at all Fiat dealerships, customers can now also order the New 500 «la Prima» hatchback: the 500 sedan with zero CO2 emissions.

The New 500 hatchback features a sophisticated panoramic glass sunroof: a veritable ‘window on the sky’, to flood the passenger compartment with light, improving comfort while driving and on-board wellbeing. As well as the panoramic sunroof, the rear of the New 500 «la Prima» hatchback stands out for its tailgate and a new, now more pronounced spoiler, to improve aerodynamic efficiency. The model is available in three exclusive liveries, inspired by the fundamental elements of nature: Ocean Green (pearlescent), reminiscent of the sea; Mineral Grey (metallic), for the Earth; and Celestial Blue (three-layer), for the sky. Extras include full LED headlights, 17” diamond-cut wheels, chrome-plated inserts on the windows and side panels, and dashboard and seat upholstery in eco-leather.

Fitted with the most innovative Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) as standard – including iACC (Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control), to brake or accelerate in response to any obstacle it encounters; Lane Centering, to keep the vehicle in the center of the lane, provided the markings are correctly detected; Intelligent Speed Assist, which reads detectable speed limits and recommends applying them; Urban Blind Spot, using ultrasonic sensors to monitor blind spots and advise you with a triangular warning light if any other vehicles are approaching; Attention Assist, which provides warnings on the display, recommending that you stop and take a break when you are tired; and 360° sensors, providing a drone view to avoid any obstacles when parking or performing complex maneuvers – the New 500 «la Prima» hatchback is the first car in its segment to feature level 2 autonomous driving and introduces the new UConnect 5 infotainment system: 7” TFT Display, 10.25” Touch Screen NAV, DAB Radio, Wireless CarPlay / Android Auto, with the Uconnect Box pre-installed as standard to provide a suite of innovative connected Uconnect Services – making their debut in the New 500 «la Prima» cabrio and hatchback – including ‘over-the-air’ map updates and the option to interact with your car using Amazon Alexa voice assistant technology.

But it"s the range and reduced charging time that make the difference: the lithium-ion batteries with 42 kWh capacity give the New 500 a range of up to 320 km in the WLTP combined cycle and up to 458 km in the urban cycle. To optimize charging time, the New 500 «la Prima» hatchback includes DC fast charge at up to 85 kW as standard, to recharge the battery very quickly. For example, it takes only 5 minutes – the same as drinking a coffee – to build up enough of an energy reserve to travel 50 kilometers within the city, more than necessary for average daily use. And fast charge can also replenish the battery to 80% in just 35 minutes.

The New 500 «la Prima» hatchback is therefore a veritable concentration of style and technology, directly aimed at fans of beauty, creativity and innovation. Just like its previous generations, the statistics prove the new full-electric model to be another international star: the pre-booking figures for the cabrio and hatchback versions show that over 80% of online requests have come from abroad.

In Italy in July and August, the New 500 «la Prima» cabrio – the Numbered version of which sold out immediately in the booking phase – has starred in the “Tour AntePrima”, a series of events at Fiat dealerships with one-to-one presentations to customers who had already pre-booked. Over 40 dealers across Italy have been involved in the encounter to get up close and personal with the New 500 and delve into all its details. Each day ended with an invitation-only evening event. Countless fans and interested parties have made the dealer tour a success, so much so that it was extended to the German market on August 17, with three “Casa 500” opened in France.

• Three new exterior paint colors for 2015 are Giallo Moderna Perla (modern pearl yellow), Laser Blu (bright metallic blue) and Billet Argento (billet silver)

The new 7-inch TFT cluster allows drivers to easily monitor data like speed, fuel level, Eco index and trip information. While on the main screen, an image of the vehicle is surrounded by information, including distance traveled, gas mileage and range. A parking screen helps drivers while moving in reverse if the vehicle is equipped with Rear Park Assist. Other screen options include a radio screen that displays information about the station selected and a telephone screen showing call information.

When the vehicle is in Sport mode, the TFT display becomes more aggressive in appearance, complementing the Sport mode"s more engaged driving experience.

Other interior updates for 2015 include a redesigned center console. To make it more useful for drivers, the revamped console includes a new cup holder design and an additional, conveniently located ÚSB port that is fully functional and integrated with the radio. The 2015 Fiat 500 models will also include Bluetooth streaming audio in addition to the already standard Bluetooth phone connectivity.

"Since launching in March 2011, more than 135,000 Fiat 500 cars have been sold in North America," said Jason Stoicevich, Head of FIAT Brand for North America, Chrysler Group LLC. "We continue to improve the successful 500, retaining its unique Italian flavor while adding unique features, such as a 7-inch TFT display, and incorporating Bluetooth streaming and a more functional center console."

On the exterior, new paint colors for 2015 are Giallo Moderna Perla (modern pearl yellow), Laser Blu (bright metallic blue) and Billet Argento (billet silver).

The FIAT brand stands for discovery through passionate self-expression. It encourages people to be in charge of their lives, live confidently and celebrate the smallest of things with infectious excitement. That philosophy is embodied by the North American introduction of the iconic Fiat 500 or Cinquecento – a small car that lives big. Italian at heart and rooted in a rich heritage, the 500 is synonymous with modern, simple design blending form, function and a pride of ownership that is genuine.

Reminiscent of the original 1957 Cinquecento, the Fiat 500 and Fiat 500c (Cabrio) build on the vehicle"s global popularity. Since its launch in 2007, more than 1,000,000 Fiat 500 vehicles have been sold in more than 100 countries around the world. In addition to success on the sales front, the Fiat 500 has earned more than 80 international awards.

In North America, the FIAT brand portfolio continues to expand with the introduction of the high-performance Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio, the fully electric Fiat 500e and the Fiat 500L, an all-new five-passenger model that expands FIAT"s brand style and efficiency into the growing B-segment.

With more than four million produced during its twenty-year production run, the tiny Fiat 500 was something to behold. Easy to spot by its rounded egg-like body, the Fiat 500 filled a need for utilitarian transportation for the Italian masses when it was introduced in 1957. The post-war European market needed an affordable option, and the rear-engined Fiat 500 was just the solution. The rear-engine....

You can also edit, in MultiECUScan, the TPMS calibration settings to prevent the low pressure warnings from going off. 99% of people do not need to do this, however, if you are installing this cluster in a 500T and using 500T tire pressures which are lower than Abarth pressures due to suspension differences, etc, you may get a low tire pressure warning. To resolve it, simply use Abarth tire pressures.

- A 2015+ TFT Cluster that has lower miles or kms than your current cluster. (You can get a cluster from an American or Candian car as you can switch the units to metric/imperial and it changes the odometer as well). No issues.

- It does not have to be an Abarth specific cluster, but it cannot be a 500e Cluster (although as BigDaddySRT tested, it works completely fine minus the 500e specific stuff)

Ok, so now that you have a cluster and it"s LOWER kilometers or miles than your current cluster, you have removed your current cluster and installed the new cluster. Everything seems to work out of the box except it might not be an Abarth cluster or, it"s in a base 500 mode missing some features. Also, the odometer is flashing and doesn"t match the mileage of your car.

This is where MultiECUScan comes into play. In MultiECUScan we need to write the kilometers to the cluster and perform a Proxi Alignment. It"s self explanatory, but in MES, go to the cluster section for the TFT cluster, change the kilometers to what your previous cluster had and write the changes. MAKE SURE you put in the CORRECT amount. YOU CANNOT wire the cluster to a LOWER value, it"s impossible with MES. If you have messed up, there is no fix, you will need to get another cluster or install your old cluster. I cannot stress this enough.

This will open a HEX editor-like window. This is basically what is getting written to the body control modules, CTM, etc when we do the Proxi Alignment. Find Byte 65, this is the byte that controls the TFT displays.

00 : This is the base 500 display. It has the crappy font from the base 500/500 sport and also features a Sport Mode. I personally do not like the font, gauge faces, drives me nuts, YMMV.

40 : This is the 500T display type. It features a digital turbo boost gauge (commanded boost) on the right side of the cluster in Sport Mode. I"ve been using this display for a little over 24 hours now and it works great.

- If you are running this display type in your Abarth, your OEM turbo boost gauge will be "turned off" as the 500T does not have this gauge. The cluster *runs* that turbo boost gauge. It won"t even light up. For those that have after market boost gauges in this spot, this may cause your aftermarket gauge to not get power or illuminate depending on how you wired it. This cluster uses the same font as the Abarth cluster. A+.

60 : This is the Abarth display type. It features a throttle position indicator in Sport Mode which does not work, Abarth branded Start Up/Shut Down screens and G-Force, which does not work. You can simply turn off G-Force and have it display tire pressure or the radio or average Kms to get around that issue. Not a big deal, but the throttle position gauge, there is not a fix for it yet. (This is why I switched to the 500T display type).

Note: The 2015 OEM Boost Gauge displays SPORT, not SHIFT UP like the 2014 and earlier models. In sport mode *SHIFT UP* will always be lit up on the boost gauge in Abarth mode. The solution is to replace the OEM boost gauge with a 2015 gauge (should be direct fit) or just ignore it haha.

Ok, so to recap, CTRL ALT C, find byte 65, change that byte to the display type you want (00, 20, 40 or 60), press OK, perform the Proxi Alignment Procedure.

At the New York auto show, Fiat will have the 500 lineup all hopped up and ready to go. Aside from the big news in Abarth transmissions, the main thing is a display. Finally ditching the silly gauge pod and its aughts-retro black-and-amber screen, the 2015 Cinquecentos will offer a high-def, seven-inch TFT screen that will show drivers speed, fuel economy, trip data, and more.

Buyers who order rear parking assist will also be able to track their backward progress. Everyone will get more information about the radio stations they’ve got tuned in. What’s more, in Sport mode, the display will apparently go all aggro. We’d wish for a holographic Kool-Aid Man that’d appear to burst out of the dash, but we doubt Fiat would listen.

Other techy newness includes Bluetooth audio streaming, an additional USB port integrated with the radio and a redesigned center console with a new cup holder. Never underestimate the ergonomic satisfaction that a better cup holder can provide.

On the outside, three new-for-’15 colors are available: Giallo Moderna Perla (so, yellow), Laser Blu (bright blue) and Billet Argento (silver). Now, if you’ll excuse us, we need to call Hot Rods by Boyd for some ’90s-era billet wheels. And maybe one of those wingy-lookin’ ball-milled steering wheels buffed to a mirror polish. We’ll keep our gnocchi in the cup holder. It’ll be like an FCA microcosm. You’ll love it. You’ll see.
