Please don’t confuse outdoor displays with outdoor signs. Building Signs are much larger and can be read from the street or road. Outdoor displays are typically high resolution video monitors that are meant to be viewed at close distances. Outdoor displays have 720 to 4K resolution and can display full screen video. The main traits to be concerned about with outdoor displays is their water protection rating and sunlight readability. Look for high IP ratings. Outdoor-ready displays have not been around very long. As a matter of fact until recently the only way you can guarantee water and intrusion protection (iP) was to use an external enclosure. Over the past few years the larger manufacturers are producing products that have genuine IP (intrusion protection) ratings paired with sunlight- fighting brightness as measured in candela or NITS.

Make no mistake, there are very few brands or models you can absolutely rely on for the long haul. Some cheap brands will start leaking in the first year. That’s why it’s important to work with suppliers who have genuine experience to determine the right outdoor display investment to make.  Outdoor displays are finding their way into fast food drive-thrus,  shopping centers, well-traveled thoroughfares. We are are seeing a high interest in educational and medical campuses for emergency notification use. .MediaNow offers the most reliable outdoor displays available; plus digital signage software and media players to create powerful Visual Networks that will get your message across like never before.

It looks amazing, but this beastly monitor requires an equally powerful PC to power it. If you watch PCWorld’s video on the Dell 8K from CES, you can see a full 4K video running in just one quarter of the display. (Four times the pixels, remember?) The back of the display holds two DisplayPort 1.4 ports, both of which have to be running to support the monitor’s output. Dell was using a high-end Nvidia Quadro workstation graphics card to power the display.

The impact on you at home: Requiring major hardware is to be expected since 8K is on the bleeding edge, but it points out a problem for technophiles drooling over the monitor. Namely, this is not a gamer-friendly display for now as it would likely choke on AAA titles even with a GTX 1080 Ti—Dell and Nvidia worked together closely on the display’s drivers.

Besides in 2017, $5,000 can be better spent on an entire 4K gaming rig rather than a single display. The good news is 8K displays will likely drop in price within a few years, and as they become more commonplace, AMD and Nvidia will no doubt produce consumer GPUs built with 8K in mind. For now, however, this monitor’s for pros only.

Before you buy any digital signage, one of the first things you need to do is work out what screen resolution you need. Full HD is the most common resolution, still, although 4K displays are starting to come through in volume. But, what about 8K and beyond? Should you wait until these displays start to launch? Here, we"ll help you make the right choices.

Screen resolution is quoted as the number of pixels, horizontal x vertical. A Full HD display has a resolution of 1,920x1,080 pixels, while a 4K display has a resolution of 3,840x2,160. And an 8K display gives you 7,680x4,320 pixels.

The typical way that this is shown is with a chart like the one below, which shows the relative resolutions available. This works to a degree, but the chart makes it look like 8K displays are four times bigger than 4K ones. While this could be true, you can have different resolutions in the same size screen.

As you move up screen size, it"s worth paying attention to resolution, as upping this can help maintain quality. For example, having an 84in 4K display is like having four 42in Full HD displays stitched together. In other words, the pixel size is identical here, so you get the same image detail when viewed from the same distance.

If you stick at the same, or similar screen sizes as your Full HD displays, then 4K makes things sharper and more detailed, which can help attract attention or just make your messaging easier to read.

Ultimately, it"s the type of content that you want to display that should help you choose. With menus, for example, upgrading from Full HD to 4K will make text sharper and easier to read, which can lead to higher sales and better customer interaction. In the image below, for example, we"ve got two images of a bee, displayed at the same size, but designed to show the difference between Full HD and 4K displays. As you can see the top picture (a 4K representation) has far more detail than the image shown at the same size on a Full HD display (bottom image).

Replacing older digital signage that"s primarily used for large-format text and image advertising, such as a special offer, will see less of an impact by upgrading to 4K. The example below shows how text could look on the same size displays on a 4K display (top) and Full HD display (bottom).

It"s important that all of your digital signage is designed for the final resolution. While 4K displays can upscale Full HD content or lower, they work best with native content, designed and created to work best on the high-resolution screens.

8K displays are starting to arrive, offering a staggering resolution of 7,680x4,320 - that"s four times the number of pixels as in a 4K display. Currently, these screens are hugely expensive, but as the price comes down 8K could have a big impact on digital signage.

As we"ve seen from our examples, 8K"s higher resolution will give even more detail than 4K, which will make it a real winner where this is required, such as in restaurant menus. And, the resolution is so high that for larger screens, you can preserve detail, creating impactful digital signage that looks better than real life.

For now, the choice is really one between Full HD and 4K. Full HD displays are currently cheapers (although the price difference is getting closer) and are a good choice where you can get away with smaller screens or you"re showing low-detail content. 4K makes a better option where you want larger screens or you need to display a lot of information. 8K remains an interesting technology for the future. When it comes to touch screens, digital directories, digital billboards and even menu displays for restaurants and cafes; it is important for us to keep our finger on the pulse of digital display technology. Innovations in display solutions happen all the time and we get excited about what’s coming next. Samsungs new 8K ‘The Wall’ is surely going to make a huge splash when it’s rolled out to the world early this year.

With the QLED 8K Signage at the forefront, Samsung showcases its next generation of commercial displays including ‘The Wall’ in 8K and 8K HDR technology for LED signage at the 2019 Integrated Systems Europe expo in Amsterdam.

Samsung is aiming to transform the global digital signage market at ISE 2019 by launching the first signage products featuring QLED 8K. In addition to the QLED 8K Signage, ISE 2019 attendees can experience ‘The Wall 2019’ and Multi-Link LED HDR technology for signage.

“By introducing 8K in display signage, businesses can deliver impeccable picture quality to their audiences in a way that was previously not possible,” said Seog-gi Kim, executive vice president of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “The 82in QLED 8K Signage is just one of the many industry-leading products we are excited to showcase at ISE 2019. We look forward to introducing the global AV industry to the commercial applications of 8K.”

Samsung is presenting the new 82in QLED 8K Signage, which combines the market’s highest resolution with Artificial Intelligence (AI) upscaling technology — producing lifelike images, enabling users to enjoy immersive viewing experiences. The AI upscaling technology in commercial displays will capture the attention of potential customers; and to store owners and advertisers, this means more content production at lower costs and lower resolution but higher resolution display in 8K quality.

Similar to its 8K TV counterpart, the QLED 8K display delivers enhanced black colour presentation through local dimming and Quantum Light Control. The display also features HDR10+ along with 4,000nit peak brightness and provides 100% percent Colour Volume, presenting rich pictures.

Samsung will launch a 292in version of The Wall display in 8K globally in the first half of this year. The Wall is a large-format modular display ideal for luxury residences as well as for business purpose, configurable and customisable to a variety of sizes and ratios from 73in to 292in.
