Ordered this part 6 months ago and just now installed it (timeliness fail!). I used a video on YouTube ("Official iPhone 4S Screen / LCD Replacement Video & Instructions - iCracked.com") for instructions and though it took a while (give yourself 4 hours or so including gathering of tools), it yielded 100% success for me. IMHO, the screen looks to me OEM. I can"t tell a difference from the original. No problems with fit or installation and quality appears to be superior. So good in fact, that I"m on Amazon now, ordering another one for my daughter"s 4s which she just shattered 2 days ago. :( The replacement is pretty technical since the LCD/digitizer is basically the first thing that you start with when building an iPhone. I didn"t hesitate to attempt repair because I have advanced military training in such procedures so I would only recommend this for someone who is 1. Mechanically inclined and 2. Pays attention to detail. However, the videos available on the Internet do a good job of leveling the playing field for those with moderate abilities in these two areas.

You will need to buy a #000 Phillips screwdriver. The one that comes in the kit with this product isn"t small enough for some of the screws inside the iPhone 4s. I also needed a jeweler"s flat head screwdriver for one of the screws because the blade on the flat head driver supplied was a bit too thick. Put a white sheet down on your work surface to keep track of screws. Separate your screws with the parts they are associated with as you work and pay attention to where they go because not all screws retaining a given part are identical. There are different size screws that retain the same part so you need to know which screws go where. Have a magnifying device handy - it can be a life saver. I had to use a small amount of penetrating fluid on one of the corner screws that attaches the screen to the outside frame. Kroil penetrating oil worked like a charm. Sprayed it into the Kroil lid, then used a Phillips screwdriver to direct a small amount onto the non-moving screw. Three minutes later and it came right out. Had I not used it, it"s likely I would have destroyed the screw head slot trying to remove the screw or I might not have been able to remove it at all.

1. There were no screws holding my battery connector onto the logic board. They were simply missing, along with the associated grounding strap. So, I noted it and moved on; 2. One of the logic board screw mounts was broken off inside the case (the once closest to the battery) so I couldn"t remove that screw. So, I just left it on the board and moved on; and, 3. When I rebooted the phone to test it, the "Searching..." (for a cell signal) note came up at the top of my screen. I rebooted a couple of times then searched for help on the Internet. Google (search term "replaced iphone4gs screen but searching") led me to a page (at ifixit.com) where they gave 7 possible solutions. As mentioned, I tried rebooting it, then decided to just finish reassembly and then proceed with the other fixes. However, by the time I completed reassembly, the "Searching..." notation was gone and was replaced with the normal carrier signal info. Yay! One of the fixes was to do nothing for about 10 minutes, so apparently that was the one I needed.

On April 19, 2010, gadget website Gizmodo reported that they had purchased an iPhone prototype for $5000, and furthermore, had conducted a product teardown of the device. The prototype was reported to have been lost by an Apple employee, Gray Powell, in Redwood City, California.

On April 23, officers from the Rapid Enforcement Allied Computer Team (REACT) task force of the California HTTAP Program raided the home of Jason Chen, the Gizmodo editor responsible for reviewing the prototype, seizing all of his computers and hard drives.Electronic Frontier Foundation criticized the raid as violating journalist source protection laws that forbid the seizure of journalist computers, as well as the suspicion that Apple had used its influence as a member of the steering committee, which is charged with direction and oversight of the California REACT task force to push police into action in a way that would not normally be conducted for this type of incident. On January 11, 2011, Verizon Wireless announced during a media event that it had reached an agreement with Apple and would begin selling a CDMA iPhone 4 in the United States, ending Apple"s exclusivity agreement with AT&T. The Verizon iPhone went on sale on February 10 and pre orders began on February 3.hotspot, with up to five devices connecting at one time. The February 3, 2011, presale of the iPhone 4 broke Verizon"s first day sales records for a single device.

On June 24, 2010, Apple stated that the white iPhone 4 models were proving more "challenging to manufacture" than expected, and initially pushed the release date back to the second half of July.

During Apple"s official unveiling of the iPhone 4S on October 4, 2011, it was announced that Sprint would begin carrying the reconfigured CDMA iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S in the US on October 14.

In September 2013, after the release of the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, Apple stopped selling the iPhone 4 in most of their stores as well as on their website. It was replaced by the 8 GB iPhone 4S.

The display of the iPhone 4 was manufactured by LG under an exclusive contract with Apple. It features an LED backlit TFT LCD capacitive touchscreen with a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch (ppi) on a 3.5 in (8.9 cm) (diagonally measured), 960×640 display. Each pixel is 78 micrometers in width. The display has a contrast ratio of 800:1. The screen was marketed by Apple as the "Retina display", based on the assertion that a display of approximately 300 ppi at a distance of 305 millimetres (12 in) from one"s eye, or 57 arcseconds per pixelretina can perceive.

This claim was widely disputed. Raymond Soneira, president of DisplayMate Technologies, said in an interview with the Wired magazine, that his claims by Jobs are something of an exaggeration: "It is reasonably close to being a perfect display, but Steve pushed it a little too far". Soneira stated that the resolution of the human retina is higher than claimed by Apple, working out to 477 PPI at 12 inches (305 mm) from the eyes, or 36 arcseconds per pixel.

However, Phil Plait, author of NASA regarding the camera on the Hubble Space Telescope, responded to the criticism by stating that "if you have [better than 20/20] eyesight, then at one foot away the iPhone 4"s pixels are resolved. The picture will look pixellated. If you have average eyesight, the picture will look just fine".

The iPhone 4 is the first iPhone model to have two cameras. The LED flash for the rear-facing camera (top) and the forward-facing camera (bottom, left of the speaker) are not present in older models.

The iPhone 4 features an additional front-facing VGA camera, and a backside-illuminated 5 megapixel rear-facing camera with a 3.85 mm f/2.8 lens[1] and an LED flash. Steve Jobs claimed it to be "the thinnest smartphone on the planet."

The iPhone 4 is structured around a stainless steel frame that wraps around the edge of the phone, acting both as the primary structure for the device and as the iPhone 4"s antennas. This metal band features two slits on the GSM version of the phone, one at the lower left, and one at the top (and a fake slit along the lower right, to cosmetically mirror the one at the lower left) that divide the band into two antenna sections: the left section of the band serves as the Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS antenna, and the right and lower sections of the band act as the antenna for GSM and UMTS connectivity.

The iPhone 4 shipped with iOS 4, which was the newest version of Apple"s iOS mobile operating system at the time. iOS 4 introduced a multitasking system, allowing apps to remain "suspended" in memory, perform certain operations in the background, and allowing users to switch between apps using an on-screen menu.FaceTime, which allows users to perform video calls between other iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and OS X users.

The iPhone 4 supports up to iOS 7, released in September 2013. Due to the relatively aged hardware of the iPhone 4, certain features available on newer iPhone models are not available on the device; as of iOS 7, they include Siri, 3D maps and turn-by-turn navigation, AirDrop, AirPlay mirroring, live camera filters, panorama mode and certain visual effects introduced by iOS 7, such as the blurring of translucent interface elements, the parallax effect on the home screen, and live wallpapers.

Apple released a plastic and rubber case called the Bumper to protect the edges of the phone. The case, which also provided some screen protection, included buttons and holes that enabled switch and connector access.

Apple updated the bumper with a wider volume switch hole with the release of the iPhone 4 for CDMA networks. The updated bumper is also compatible with iPhone 4S, the next-generation iPhone that has the same exterior design and measurements as the CDMA model of the iPhone 4, but with a SIM card slot as well.

CNET reacted to the announcement by explaining how it believes that iMovie for iOS was the "most exciting part of this year"s WWDC Keynote". The article noted how the iPhone 4, unlike current cameras, can record HD content and then edit it from the same device, labeling it a "true mobile editing suite".

Reviews of the iPhone 4 were largely positive. Walt Mossberg of Engadget named it the "best smartphone on the market" in June 2010.CNET gave the iPhone 4 a rating of 8.6 out of 10, one of the highest ratings it had given any smartphone.TechRadar gave the device 4.5/5 stars.

Some users reported a yellow discoloration of the screen that disappeared after several days, which was attributed to the glass lamination glue that was used. It did not have time to dry fully before the unit reached consumers due to the speed of manufacturing.white balance were also discovered, particularly when using the flash.

Shortly after the iPhone 4 was launched, some consumers reported that signal strength of the phone was reduced when touching the lower left edge of the phone, bridging one of the two locations which separates the two antennas, resulting in dropped calls in some areas with lower signal reception.

As a consequence of this problem, it was reported on July 2, 2010 that several iPhone 4 users were planning on suing Apple and AT&T for fraud by concealment, negligence, intentional misrepresentation and defective design. The legal challenge was started by a law firm, who set up a website to recruit disenchanted iPhone 4 buyers for a lawsuit against Apple.

Apple explained how the formula it used to calculate the number of bars to display was "totally wrong". Apple promised to correct the issue and release a software update within a few weeks that would address the "mistake", which had been present since the original iPhone.

On July 16, 2010, at a press conference which included a private tour of Apple"s antenna design lab for journalists,Steve Jobs announced that Apple would provide all iPhone 4 owners with a free case to help solve the antenna issue and a refund to those users who had already purchased a Bumper. The free case offer would be valid until September 30, 2010, when Apple would re-evaluate the situation.AppleCare which showed that only 0.55 percent of all iPhone 4 users have complained to the company about the issue, while the number of phones returned to Apple was 1.7 percent – 4.3 percentage points less than the number of iPhone 3GS models that were returned in the first month of the phone"s launch.

Despite the negative media attention regarding the antenna issues, 72% of iPhone 4 users say that they are "very satisfied" with their iPhone 4 according to an August 2010 survey by ChangeWave Research.

For most folks, the touchscreen is the only way to interact with your iPhone, so if it doesn"t work, then your phone doesn"t work either. While an unresponsive touchscreen — one that either doesn"t respond at all to your taps or that responds intermittently and unpredictably — can be frustrating, there"s no need to be alarmed; there are some simple fixes you can try to get it up and running again before taking it into an Apple Store.

We"ll cover some of the ways to fix an unresponsive iPhone touchscreen, from a simple restart all the way to the nuclear option of factory resetting your iPhone. If none of these work, then you can at least be confident you"ve tried everything you can before you reach out to Apple for professional help.

Under the hood, your iPhone isn"t that much different from a Mac or Windows PC, and you may have already encountered problems with those devices that are solved by a simple reboot. The same is sometimes true with an iPhone. The steps to do this are a bit different depending on whether your iPhone has a home button on the front or whether it"s equipped with Face ID and only side buttons.

Although most of Apple"s iPhones are now equipped with Face ID and edge-to-edge displays, the entry-level iPhone SE (2022) still features the classic design of the iPhone 8 and earlier models. The process of restarting a home-button-equipped iPhone is a little bit different:

Press and hold the right-side button until the Slide to power off control appears. If you"re using a first-generation iPhone SE (2016) or an iPhone 5s or earlier model, that button will be on the top instead of the side.

Of course, if your touchscreen is acting up, you may not be able to move the power-off slider properly to shut down your iPhone. In this case, you"ll need to resort to a forced restart, which is basically like rebooting your iPhone without powering it down first.

In many cases, restarting your iPhone will fix an unresponsive touchscreen, so this should be the first thing you try before attempting anything else.

Screen protectors are usually very thin these days and are designed to work well with modern smartphones. However, in some rare cases, they can affect the responsiveness of your iPhone"s touchscreen. As such, if you"re using a screen protector, you should check whether it"s been properly applied to your iPhone"s touchscreen. If it hasn"t, try removing and reapplying it or using a new protector if you have one available.

Even if your screen protector has been properly applied, it"s still a good idea to try removing it just to make sure it"s not getting in the way. If your iPhone"s touchscreen begins working properly after taking your screen protector off, you may want to consider forgoing a screen protector entirely or buying a thinner one from a reputable brand.

using a screen protector that allows small particles to get trapped in between the protective glass or film and your iPhone"s screen. Try cleaning your screen — without a screen protector installed — by using a dry microfiber cloth until it looks as spotless as possible. If the touchscreen is working properly at that point, you can try reapplying your screen protector.

It"s pretty uncommon these days, but we have encountered cases where connected accessories somehow get in the way of your touchscreen interactions. So, if you"re using wired headphones or even just a charger, try disconnecting those and seeing if your touchscreen begins working properly. Be sure to restart your iPhone after disconnecting the accessory to be certain you"ve covered all the bases.

If your device"s touchscreen begins working after any such accessory is removed, then it"s likely you"ve found the culprit. Try replacing the accessory with an alternative to see if things improve. However, if you experience touchscreen problems when any accessory is connected to the Lightning port, regardless of type, then there"s likely a deeper problem that will require one of the software or hardware fixes in the following sections.

If your iPhone touchscreen still isn"t responding after trying the steps above, the next thing to do is update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS. If you can interact with your iPhone well enough to get into the Settings app, then tapping General > Software Update is the fastest and easiest way to do this. Otherwise, you"ll have to connect to a Mac or a Windows PC running iTunes.

Step 3: If you can unlock your iPhone to get to the home screen — which may be possible using Face ID or Touch ID even if your touchscreen isn"t responding — and you"ve connected your iPhone to this computer before, then it should appear in the sidebar in Finder or iTunes. From here, you can select your iPhone in the sidebar and select the Update button in Finder or iTunes to download and install the latest iOS update.

Step 4: If you haven"t used your iPhone with this computer, you"ll see a prompt on your iPhone to "Trust" this computer that you"ll need to tap on to confirm. If your touchscreen is responsive enough, then you may be able to tap on that to confirm, and then continue with the step above to update your iPhone.

However, if your touchscreen isn"t working at all, then you won"t be able to confirm the trust prompt, and your Mac or Windows PC will have no way of communicating with your iPhone normally. Instead, you"ll need to put your iPhone in "Recovery" mode first. Here"s how to do that:

If updating your iPhone doesn"t resolve any software-related issues that could be causing your iPhone"s touchscreen to freeze, then the final option you can try is restoring your iPhone back to factory settings.

This will erase everything on your iPhone, returning it to its original out-of-the-box state. It"s the best way to confirm that the problem you"re encountering is actually hardware and not software, but of course, you"ll lose everything on your iPhone unless you already have a backup, or you"re able to make a new one.

If you"re using iCloud Backups, you should already have an automatic backup made sometime in the last 24 hours — as long as your iPhone was connected to Wi-Fi and plugged in at some point during that time. Otherwise, you"ll have to try making a new backup to your Mac or PC.

Unfortunately, if your touchscreen is completely unresponsive, you"ll only be able to do this if you"ve previously connected your iPhone to your computer. Otherwise, your iPhone will prompt you to "Trust" what it sees as an unknown computer, and you won"t be able to confirm that security prompt to grant access to the data on your iPhone.

Nevertheless, even if you can"t get a recent backup, you may still want to go ahead and perform a factory reset anyway. Depending on the apps you use and the kind of data on your iPhone, a backup may not be as critical since your important data may already be stored in other cloud services such as Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud Photo Library, or Google Photos. However, we don"t recommend assuming this is the case — make a backup if at all possible, and be prepared to lose at least some of your data if you choose to proceed with a factory reset without a backup.

To restore your iPhone back to factory settings, follow the three steps outlined in the section above, but in this case, click Restore at the end of the process rather than Update.

When your iPhone finishes the restore process, go through the initial setup without restoring your data from a backup. By setting your device up as a new iPhone you"ll be able to confirm that the touchscreen is working properly. Once you"re satisfied, you can restore your backup by factoring resetting it again and choosing to restore your backup during the setup process.

Factory resetting your iPhone may be a heavy-handed option, so it could be worth contacting Apple Support instead — especially if you don"t have a backup. This is likely a safer final resort than factory resetting your iPhone since Apple may be able to fix the issue — which could be hardware-related — without having to erase your iPhone.

Just keep in mind that there"s no guarantee that this will be the case. If your iPhone has a serious hardware problem, Apple may swap it out with a replacement unit, and it will be up to you to restore your data onto the new iPhone; Apple has no more power to back up your iPhone than you do, as the company takes your privacy and security very seriously, so even its own technicians and engineers can"t override the trusted computer prompt to get at your data.

After buying this expensive phone my self and having to pay for yearly internet usage, I figured, I would take great care of it and skip the care protection plan. I did take extensive care of it, I used a screen protector along with a case and never had any problems until a few days ago. I was sitting on a bench out side of school (bench was about 1 and a half feet from the ground) with my phone laying beside me I must have gone to grab it, but the phone slid off the bench and hit a mulch surface.

The vendors on eBay and sites like those are not out to help you, they are just looking for your money. You need to make sure you do the research before you buy the parts. So be smart when you buy the replacement; I proceeded to buy a fully assembled retina display and glass piece. THESE PIECES SHOULD NOT BE BOUGHT SEPARATELY. I STRESS THIS BECAUSE APPLE DOES THE LAMINATION OF THE TWO TOGETHER WHICH IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DO BY HAND.If you have ever done an Apple product repair such as iPod touches or iPhones, you would think that the LCD and the Glass are two separate pieces. Instead on the iPhone 4, Apple decided to use lamination of the two to reduce the glare. That feature was effective and took out the variable of dust particles getting in to the phone but makes the replacement of one twice the amount of money. Hold the top button on your phone for about 5 seconds, then slide to turn off. If the damage is too extensive and your touch screen does not work simply hold the top and home buttons together for about 10 seconds.

This step is directly handling the mother board of the iPhone so i can not stress this enough, be careful. first you want to proceed by removing two screws, one flat head and one Philips, the Philips screw is hidden under a water sensor that can be scraped off. The photos below will show you the difference. after you remove those screws and organized them in you sketch begin by freeing up the top of the mother board from the ribbon cables up top. then slowly take it off. proceed with caution.

This is probably the most time consuming step in the entire process for this you will need to remove 10 screws, 6 larger ones with washers on the sides classified as A screws, and 4 smaller ones in the corners classified as B screws. Follow the photo below for thier exact positions. Organize as shown below on a piece of tape.

Installing screen, i could not take a photo of this because i was putting it together two handed. Simply guide the new ribbon cables through the hole that you took the old display out of, you sort of have to play around till the cable and a small metal box fit snugly inside the enclosure. the 3rd photo should give you a good example of how the cable should fit in.

Great instructable, I used it to disassemble an IPhone 4, and as a basic guideline for disassembling an IPhone 4s. Unfortunately I was hoping the screen on the 4s was the same as the screen on the 4.
