Have a broken iPhone screen? Here are three iPhone screen repair options and how much each costs, plus a breakdown of whether you should fix it or sell it.

NOTE: If your iPhone is still under warranty, check with Apple to see if you can get your screen fixed for free. Here’s Apple’s warranty coverage checker.

You can replace your own iPhone screen with a little tech savvy and a bit of patience. The repair requires disassembly, however, so you shouldn’t attempt this fix if you’re not comfortable doing that.

Your best bet is to buy a complete screen assembly, which is a much easier repair than replacing just the front glass or digitizer. Expect to pay between $45 and $280 for a new iPhone screen, depending on your model, where you buy parts and whether you buy a standard LCD or premium OLED screen. Toolkits start at $5 if you don’t already have the necessary tools.

WARNING: This can be a difficult repair, especially if you aren’t experienced. Understand the risk of additional damage that could void any warranties and insurance policies.Rather buy a new iPhone? Save with these iPhone deals

The process differs slightly by model, but generally involves these steps:Use a hair dryer, heat gun or iOpener tool to heat the front glass and soften the underlying adhesive

You can find detailed step-by-step instructions on sites like iFixit and YouTube. Here are some example videos for the iPhone 12, iPhone 11 and iPhone X.

Don’t want to fix your own iPhone screen? You can opt for professional repair instead. Local repair shops can often replace your screen in a few hours, either in-store or at your location. Online mail-in repair services take longer, but they’re good options if you don’t have a local repair store.

Expect to pay between $119 and $520 for professional iPhone screen replacement, depending on your model and repair shop. Note that Apple’s own repair service tops out at $329 for out-of-warranty screen repair. Apple also uses OEM (original equipment manufacturer parts), while many repair shops use less expensive aftermarket parts.

Mail-in repair services like iFixYouri and My Broken Phone typically charge between $100 and $200, but they don’t always list pricing for every repair on their websites. Sometimes, it’s because they haven’t updated their service offering lately, especially if newer devices aren’t listed. Other times, they can make the repair, but it’s too uncommon to stock parts.

In some cases, the repair is difficult and likely to damage the device, so it’s not profitable for the company to offer it. Or, the required parts are so expensive it’s not worth fixing. Either way, if the repair you need isn’t listed on a repair shop’s website, it’s a good idea to contact them anyway to see if they offer it.

It’s a good idea to ask about warranties on parts and labor before you choose a repair company. You should also inquire about your service tech’s experience, credentials and quality of parts.Interested in a refurbished iPhone 12? See where to get it for less

Do you have iPhone insurance? If so, you can file a claim directly with your insurance company, who might offer a choice between mail-in, in-store or on-location repair services. Some companies will overnight a refurbished replacement iPhone rather than repair and return yours.

Expect to pay a deductible ranging between $29 and $149, depending on your model and insurance company. Here are some example iPhone screen repair deductibles.InsureriPhone Screen Replacement Deductible

Should you fix your iPhone screen or sell it broken? You can base your decision on how much your iPhone is worth broken versus repaired, especially if you plan to upgrade soon.

For example, at the time of this writing, an iPhone X 64GB on the Verizon network was worth $255 in good condition. Here’s a breakdown of its net value after different repair options.

Next, compare the net value after repair to what your iPhone is worth in broken condition. At the time of this writing, a broken iPhone X 64GB on the Verizon network was worth $110.

As the table shows, our example iPhone will have significantly more value if you repair it yourself or file an insurance claim through AppleCare+ or Verizon.

However, SquareTrade insurance leaves a net value of $4 less than the phone is worth broken, while out-of-warranty Apple repair leaves a net value of $134 less, which means you’d lose money by going with those repair options.

The independent repair shop option leaves a net value of just $26 more than selling it broken, which might make you question whether repair is worth the hassle.

Of course, your decision depends not only on the value, but also how long you plan to keep your iPhone. If you intend to hold on to it for a few years, it’s cheaper to repair it than to buy a new iPhone.

If you plan to upgrade soon and trade in your old phone, however, it’s worth comparing your options to see whether you’ll get more value after repair or selling it as-is.

Being a repair shop, we’re going to focus more on the reparability of the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and the iPhone 11 Pro Max rather than the percentage change of the camera, battery, or thickness of the devices.

On September 10th 2019, Apple announced three “new” iPhones. I put an emphasis on “new” because Apple hasn’t really done anything new in a long time, this was another refresh of the previous year’s iPhone XS, XS Max, and iPhone XR.

This year, they applied a “Pro” tag to all of the XS models and instead of calling the iPhone XR the iPhone 11R, they just shorted it to the iPhone 11; so for easy reference:

The iPhone 11 is essentially the iPhone XR, it has the same display, coming in at 6.1” which is bigger than the iPhone 11 Pro, but not as large as the iPhone 11 Pro Max.

That’s a different story under the hood, there are some changes on the cabling of the display, which is good and bad news. The good news is, the screens shouldn’t be expensive because it’s the same core.

The bad news is, it’ll take a few months for the high-quality screens that we offer to become available for the iPhone 11 for the factories to retool to account for the different cabling and positions of those cables. As of July 2020, parts are available.

The only major difference to write home about is the enhanced camera options on the iPhone 11. The new iPhone 11 has a dual rear camera with an ultra-wide-angle sensor and a wide-angle sensor.

The night mode uses the ultra-wide-angle sensor to capture more light than you could on the iPhone XR, thus allowing significantly better photos in low light environments.

For hardware, that’s all I really want to talk about. If you’re looking for a very in-depth article on all the differences between the iPhone 11 and iPhone XR, you can find a great article here.

As of May 2022, the iPhone 11 is one of the most popular repairs at our facility and other third-party repair shops in the country. It’s still early, and we’ll edit this article as time passes, but after the initial tear down videos of the iPhone 11 by our friends at iFixIt, it looks like we shouldn’t see any major reparability issues for a professional repair shop when it comes to the iPhone 11.

In 2018, according to our repair system, we had our first request for an iPhone XR repair in November of 2018, and we had our first screen repair in February of 2019.

Historically, screens for iPhones launched in September start to become available in October, but the price in the first 60 – 90 days of launch makes most repairs cost-ineffective.

According to some recent drop tests, the iPhone 11 is very fragile, and here’s a photo of what it’ll look like when your previous hits the concrete from about a 3′ drop.

As of July 2022, we are now capable of repairing the iPhone 11. Most repair shops now have access to iPhone 11 inventory and are capable of servicing any broken screens.

Apple current repair pricing for the screen is $199, but if you break the camera, back glass, docking port, rear camera glass, or any peripheral that you can think of on your iPhone 11, you’ll be shelling out at least $399.

iPhone 11 rear camera glass, batteries, docking ports, and cameras usually become available around 2-3 months after the launch, and repair shops charge significantly less than Apple for when those components break.

For example, an iPhone XR rear camera glass is only $69 versus Apple’s $399, so if you break something small within the first few months of the Apple launch, it’s best to wait for your friendly third-party repair store to get the parts, and we’ll repair that for you without breaking the bank.

After being in the iPhone repair business for almost ten years, we have a good track record of anticipating the future costs of repairs, when parts will be available, and what we will be able to service.

Since the iPhone 11 is just like the iPhone XR, we will be able to service all issues ranging from screens, bad batteries, damaged docking ports, broken cameras, to cracked rear camera glass.

For an extensive list for all iPhone 11 repairs that will be offered at Gophermods, you can visit the iPhone 11 repair page. We anticipate These parts are available as of March 2022.

The iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max will display to customers a warning on the device after any third-party repair facility installs a display after screen replacement.

Countless thousands of independent repair facilities across the country are capable of servicing your iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max display in the event your display needs to be replaced.

Over the past decade, Apple products have become some of the most used devices by entrepreneurs and consumers alike. In fact, it"s not uncommon to walk through a public area and find that most people have iPhones.

Unfortunately, though, people drop their phones and break their screens fairly often. While they"re not impossible to fix, not everyone knows how much they should expect to pay.

How much you can expect to pay to repair your phone"s screen will heavily depend on how badly you"ve damaged it. In some cases, you"ll be able to get away with minor repairs to the broken screen.

Other times, though, you"ll need to replace the screen entirely. Additionally, there are other things to keep in mind to help you figure out the price.

For those who have Apple Care for their device, the cost of fixing the phone"s screen is relatively low (often around $49). But, this type of coverage involves either a monthly or up-front payment that will often exceed the cost of fixing your screen if you"re careful.

On average, third-party repair services charge less than Apple when considering both people who do and don"t have coverage. They also often take less time to complete the repairs (and may even come to your location to do so).

The drawback here, though, is that there are some companies that use low-quality glass when replacing screens. As you may expect, this will lead to even minor drops causing damage to the replacement screen.

As you may expect, the type of iPhone that you have will greatly influence the cost to repair it. In general, newer phones will be more expensive to fix than iPhones of older generations.

While this is partly due to newer phones having larger screens, there is a discrepancy in screen quality between early and contemporary devices. In fact, it"s not unlikely for an iPhone X or iPhone 11 screen to cost four or five times as much to replace as the screen of an iPhone 5.

While the following prices aren"t definitive, you can expect to pay somewhere around these prices for screen replacement by third-party servicer"s:iPhone 5/5S: $70/$80

As you can see, those who have newer iPhones will want to be extra careful with their device due to the high cost of fixing the screen. But, the cost won"t always be this high.

It"s not uncommon for the device"s touchscreen functionality to work incorrectly if the screen has been damaged badly enough. In some cases, you may also run the risk of getting shards of glass in your fingers while using the device.

Sometimes, the damage to an iPhone is serious enough to cause issues with the liquid-crystal display (LCD) or digitizer. In many cases, this type of damage will prevent the touchscreen or display from working in the affected areas.

These repairs are more involved than a simple screen replacement and will cost extra for the parts/labor. Unfortunately, the necessary materials for these repairs often run in the hundreds of dollars when it comes to cost.

A newer model iPhone with a completely destroyed screen and damage to the LCD and digitizer will likely cost $500+ to repair. Fortunately, though, this type of damage is very uncommon and often results from things like dropping the phone from a balcony, throwing it, etc.

In order to do so, you"d need the appropriate tools and materials to complete the repair. These are available online, but there are two issues to consider:While you save money on parts, you"ll have to figure out the process on your own

So, although it"s a possibility, it"s not recommended that you attempt to repair your phone on your own. Instead, a reputable iPhone repair service will save you both time and money.

There are plenty of places where you can trade-in your iPhone, but how do you know which is the best price option? Let’s look at some popular options, along with their pros and cons:

The payment for your phone will vary based on several factors, including who you decide to sell to and whether or not you repair your cracked screen first.

Option 1:Selling to a trade-in store is fast and easy. You won’t have to repair your phone first or pay for shipping. This is a low-risk and no-obligation option.

Option 2:Selling on eBay is more time-consuming. You have to create a listing, description and deal with inquiries, but the chance of selling your device for a higher profit goes up to around 10%.

Option 3:You can also repair your broken iPhone first and sell it for more. The easiest way to do this is to get a quote for the repaired versus the unrepaired value of your iPhone, calculate the repair cost, and see whether it’s worth your time and money.

People have told us that our prices are way lower than the Apple Store! An iPhone X screen replacement is $80 less with Smart Tech than the Apple Store. We use the same quality screens and do the repair in 15 minutes instead of hours or days. Same warranty and same quality without the hassle.

Some of our customers have told us that they received a quote from their insurance that was significantly higher than our price. With insurance, you also have to back up your phone, wait days for a phone to be shipped to you, and be out of a phone for 3-5 days in some cases. Insurance companies use the lowest-quality refurbished parts that will not work the same and will break easier. This puts you in a position to spend even more money and have more hassle down the road. Smart Tech uses better parts, comes to you and fixes your phone in 15 minutes! Same-day immediate service is available. It"s really a no-brainer that Smart Tech is your BEST option for any and all iPhone repairs.

Smart Tech iPhone Repair fixes your broken screen in 15 minutes. With Smart Tech, there’s no waiting in a crowded store—we come to you, wherever you want, whenever you want.

Going to the Apple store to get your iPhone repaired isn’t fun. The lines are long. Customer service representatives are always busy with someone else. Diagnosing the full extent of your phone’s problems takes longer than it should. And the Apple Geniuses never tell you what you want to hear when you finally do get the full diagnostic back.

There are only two Apple stores in the Milwaukee area. One is in the Mayfair Mall. The other is in the Bayshore Mall. Two opposite ends of Milwaukee. If you’re anywhere else, that’s nothing but an inconvenient drive for an inconvenient wait to hear an inconvenient price. And do you even have time to make it to either of those places and through the traffic after work? Because they"re definitely not open before the 9-5 workday.

Smart Tech drives to wherever is most convenient for you—work, home, Starbucks, McDonald"s, sporting events, etc—so you don"t have to worry about missing any of your work meetings, kids" games, or even just have to waste time waiting. Whistle while you work, and we"ll whistle while we fix your cracked or broken iPhone screen.

People in the Milwaukee area who broke their phones used to have three options: live with it, get a new iPhone, or drive to a brick-and-mortar shop to get their cracked screen replaced. Not anymore. Now, you can call Smart Tech, THE ONLY iPhone REPAIR COMPANY IN MILWAUKEE THAT DRIVES TO THE LOCATION OF YOUR CHOOSING TO MAKE REPAIRS MORE CONVENIENT FOR YOU, THE CUSTOMER.

When you choose Smart Tech as the company to replace your iPhone screen, you"re getting quality replacement parts. Places like tech shops and mall kiosk stations have bigger profit margins on their screen replacements because they use cheap materials, off-brand Chinese imitations.

People often show us their iPhones after going to these places, and what we see is baffling. They have rubber bands holding their screen to the phone because, after only a few weeks, the screen has peeled off. That"s what happens when you use an inferior repair service. If it doesn"t peel off, it doesn"t work as well. Bad touch. Bad color. Break easier. The works.

Now, you can call Smart Tech, the anywhere iPhone repair people. Our iPhone screen repair services are superior to other companies in Milwaukee for a few reasons:

WE ONLY WORK ON iPHONES. If you needed heart surgery, would you go to a surgeon who works on all body parts? Or would you go to a cardiovascular surgeon? Don"t go to a phone repair shop that fixes Samsung, Motorola, Nokia, HTC, Sony, LG, Blackberry AND iPhones. Smart Tech is your best option for iPhone repairs in the Milwaukee area. Stay right where you are. WE COME TO YOU.

We are grateful for your business. We think highly enough of you and your time to bring the service to you. Tell us when and where it’s convenient for us to meet you, and we’ll be there. The quality of our service reflects how much we appreciate you choosing Smart Tech as your anywhere iPhone repair people.

Do you think a "Jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none" store that also repairs iPhones can possibly be qualified to do acceptable work on your iPhone? We know it takes a specialist to repair iPhones the right way. iPhones are different than every other phone, and if the repair isn"t done properly, you will have issues. We see this with a lot of phones worked on by the big chain stores and

Screen doesn"t always respond or work the same (almost all of the other companies fixing iPhones in the area use low-quality, non-Apple parts—we use OEM high-quality parts)

1. Hit Up with the ManufacturerIf your Android device is relatively new (read: still under manufacturer’s warranty), the first place you’ll want to go for your phone fix is the manufacturer. The price for a broken screen will vary depending on your device, but for a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge you’re probably looking at around $270 plus a day or two without your device. Going to the manufacturer is almost always going to be more expensive than a third-party repair shop, but your warranty will stay intact and your phone will be fully restored (possibly even replaced with a fully refurbished model) to its pre-broken-screen excellence (and waterproof phones, like the Galaxy S7 Edge ($230 at Amazon), will retain their waterproof status). 2. Amazon is the Cheapest Place to Repair older iPhone ScreensGetting a cracked iPhone screen fixed can be an expensive, time-consuming experience, especially if it’s out of warranty. You either have to set up an appointment at an Apple store and pay its official repair price, or put your faith in an off-brand repair shop to do as good of a job for a significantly lower price. Amazon Home Services is a lesser-known section of Amazon that pairs customers with professionals who can help with everything from TV mounting, to furniture assembly, to lawn maintenance. And yes, there’s a service for fixing your cracked iPhone screen. Apple’s prices for out-of-warranty iPhone screen repairs vary, but it costs $129 to get an iPhone 5S screen replaced — Amazon will only charge you $79.99. An iPhone 7 Plus screen repair will set you back $169 at Apple, but $119.99 at Amazon. That said, Apple beats Amazon’s prices on its newest phones. An iPhone 8 screen repair costs $149 at Apple versus $169.99 at Amazon; an iPhone 8 Plus screen repair costs $169 at Apple and $199.99 at Amazon. (Source: Businessinsider.com)3. Warning: No matter how tech-savvy you are, do-it-yourself repairs always run the risk of damaging your device and likely void any warranties and insurance claims. Be sure you know what you’re doing and accept associated risks before you try to replace your cell phone screen. In addition, always make sure your device is unplugged and turned off before you begin repairs.

If you don’t want to replace your own cell phone screen, you can opt for a professional cell phone screen replacement service. Such services can range anywhere from $70 to $300 or more, but will typically not void your warranty or will provide insurance or warranties of their own. Keep in mind you will be without your phone for the duration of the repair and any applicable shipping.

Professional cell phone screen replacement services are offered by both manufacturers and third-party companies. You can find third-party cell phone repair services online and in local stores and shopping malls. Here are some popular cell phone screen replacement services:

Smash the display on Apple’s iPhone 11 Pro Max, for example, and you can expect to pay £326 to get it fixed by the tech giant if it’s out of warranty. If the damage sustained by the iPhone comes under ‘other damage’ (faults not related to the display), that number could rise to a whopping £596.44. (Source: Which.co.uk)

First, assess the damage, and that means getting your phone on a solid surface and in a good light, not just giving it a quick once-over before stuffing it back in your pocket. With a little bit of stress testing and careful prodding you should be able to work out whether the screen is about to fall off or fail completely. In a lot of cases it will stay in place, cracks and all, so you can at least keep tweeting, so long as the screen is still visible and functioning. If the phone is seriously damaged, get it backed up as quickly as you can, making sure all your photos and videos and important files are saved somewhere else just in case it dies completely and you can’t get it working again. If it’s already stopped functioning, then a professional repair is probably your best bet. Here are the solutions, in ascending order of professionalism.Option #1: Packing Tape

How to Replace a Damaged Phone Screen Display – DIYThere are so many different mobile phone models on the market (either new or used) that providing a standardized guide is next to impossible. You’ll find many detailed device-specific guides on the procedure. Most smartphones are essentially made up of several layers of components. Each layer must be carefully detached for the glass display to be replaced. These guides typically follow this procedure for replacing your smartphone display:Open the phone

Apple has not had a good week. The launch of iOS 13 has been a mess with security concerns and the rush of updates are not much better. I bought a $60 replacement screen supposedly OEM and premium quality ($20 ones are available on the market). I installed it properly (I do this for a living). The screen is dull and dark on the bottom left. I contacted the seller and his answer was « buy another one from is or somewhere else if you want since we don’t want retain you as customer » (This is not a joke I have the messages) a week later he sends me another message asking for a 5 star review. I thought it was prank. Worst ever!

Breaking an iPhone screen is never a fun experience. While nearly every electronics repair store will help you fix your iPhone, the job isn’t free, and you could walk out with a much lighter wallet. So, here are all your repair options, plus the prices you can expect to pay for an iPhone screen replacement.

I’ll get one thing out of the way right now; Apple has a stranglehold on iPhone repairs. You don’t need to visit an Apple store to replace an iPhone screen, but the company goes out of its way to make other options less appealing. So, buckle up for a bit of disappointment.

For whatever reason, Apple is very good at marketing its repair service. Everyone knows that they can walk into an Apple Store, drop off their broken device, and (usually) pick it back up within 24 hours.

You can even mail an iPhone to Apple for repair! Of course, snail mail is rarely necessary, because Apple offers its repair service through select “Authorized Apple Service Providers” like Best Buy. These “authorized” providers follow the same repair process as Apple, so you can receive quality service even when you don’t live near an Apple Store.

But Apple overcharges for repairs. If you don’t have an AppleCare+ subscription, you can expect to pay several hundred dollars for a screen replacement.

With an AppleCare+ subscription, these repairs cost just $29. I strongly suggest paying for AppleCare+ (which is between $3.99 and $13.49 a month) if you’re super clumsy or if you’re buying an iPhone for a child.

Bear in mind that these prices apply to all Authorized Apple Service Providers. If you wander into a Best Buy looking for a screen replacement, you’ll pay the same price that Apple charges at its stores. The benefit, of course, is that Best Buy and other authorized locations follow the same repair process as Apple’s “Genius Bar.”

One last note—some carriers, including Verizon, are happy to take broken phones for trade-in. Swapping your busted iPhone for a new device may be more cost-effective than paying for repairs at an Apple Store, especially if you own a newer model of iPhone.

If you’re just looking for a screen replacement, you can save money by avoiding “authorized” service centers. Third-party repair stores charge very little for screen replacements, as their prices aren’t dictated by Apple.

Every small business is different, so I can’t tell you what your neighborhood repair shop charges for an iPhone screen replacement. That said, their prices are lower than Apple’s, often by $100 or more. And because small repair shops like to build relationships with their community, they’re often willing to cut deals with first-time or repeat customers.

Unfortunately, only Authorized Apple Service Providers can order official iPhone parts. Some independent shops salvage official parts from other iPhones, but still, there’s a decent chance you’ll end up with an unofficial replacement screen. (Which isn’t a big deal for older iPhones, but unofficial screens for newer iPhones are much less durable than the “real thing.”)

Apple also likes to restrict some repairs at a software level. Performing certain repairs without Apple’s calibration tools (which independent stores can’t access) will actually disable features like Face ID. But this is only a problem with brand spankin’ new iPhone models—historically, Apple lifts screen repair restrictions a few months after each iPhone’s release. (You can now replace the iPhone 13’s display without consequence, for example.)

You can’t save money without putting in the work. Replacing your iPhone screen at home is usually cheaper than visiting an Apple store or an independent repair shop. And yeah, there are a ton of resources to help you get the job done.

The best resource, in my opinion, is iFixit. The gang at iFixit regularly publishes repair guides and sells replacement parts for popular products. You can even buy one of iFixit’s screen replacement bundles, which includes all the parts and tools you need to fix your iPhone’s broken screen.

But Apple doesn’t sell official parts to iFixit. So, you’re stuck using third-party materials. It’s a frustrating situation, as the only “official” at-home repair option is Apple’s Self Service Repair program, which stinks.

Unless you’re looking for a novelty, I suggest that you avoid Apple’s Self Service Repair program. It’s a great idea on the surface (official parts, repair guides, and calibration tools), but it only costs a few dollars less than a visit to the Apple Store. (Apple also sends out these massive Pelican cases for Self Service Repair orders, which is completely over the top and not very useful to customers.)

So, if you want to replace your iPhone’s screen at home, iFixit is still your best option. Just keep in mind that iFixit kits for newer iPhones are still a bit expensive, and in some cases, they may be more expensive than a visit to an independent repair shop.
