These are the standard ¾ scale cabinets (4 feet tall) sold by Arcade 1Up. They feature a 17-inch LCD display, original artwork, coinless operation, authentic controls, volume controls, and a selection menu to switch between the different games. The cabinets run from an AC outlet, and are shipped in flat boxes for you to construct yourself.

If you need something more compact than a full cabinet, or can’t face the idea of putting one together, the counter-cade is a pre-built 18.5-inch tall miniaturised version of a single arcade classic with an 8-inch LCD display. Like its full-size siblings, it operates via an AC connection, features controllable volume, coinless operation, original artwork and a realistic arcade joystick and buttons. These all cost $235.00, considerably less than a normal Arcade 1Up cabinet.

If you check the Amazon review averages, Arcade1Up products vary between 3.5 and 4.5 out of 5 stars. The cabinets require some assembly once they arrive, but most reviewers say that this is fairly easy to do.

Although some users complain about the cabinets reaching them in a faulty or unplayable state, they are full of praise for the customer service teams who quickly sent out replacement parts and even full units to those affected, along with some money back for the trouble.

If you already have an Arcade 1Up product, or want to buy some extras along with your new cabinet, you can buy extras such as alternative marquees and bezels to decorate your cabinet, replacement joysticks, buttons, bat tops, screens, control decks, control panel overlays, switches, spinners and PCBs in case something wears out, as well as homeware items like stools, themed lights and posters.

Regulation pinball machines are big, bulky, and quite expensive, all of which make them a hard sell for personal use in a home game room. That"s where Arcade1Up"s new virtual pinball machines come in. Much like it did with arcade machines, Arcade1Up has designed a digital pinball table that"s both size-appropriate and much cheaper than standard pinball machines. Three models are available--Star Wars, Marvel, and Attack from Mars--each of which is loaded with a bunch of different digital pinball boards in place of a traditional pinball playfields. For the purpose of this review, I tested

Unlike Arcade1Up"s cabinets, Star Wars Pinball doesn"t replicate games from an actual machine released in arcades. The machine is loaded with 10 game boards from Zen Studios" popular Pinball FX3 game, which you can also play on traditional consoles and PC:A New Hope

Each of the 10 games features its own theme, sounds, and general layout, which truly does make the gameplay experience of every single board unique. In this respect, Arcade1Up"s pinball machines have an advantage over conventional tables in terms of variety. I"ve put in a couple of hours of game time on each board, and all of them are exciting in their own way.

Though each of the 10 games works great without a hitch, there is a fairly sizable issue with each of the boards. All of this leads back to the 720p display, which muddies the on-screen text and dulls the colors. There tends to be a lot of text on each game board, so this does hurt the overall presentation. Characters and obstacles are still easily discernible, but it did take a bit for my eyes to adjust to the image quality. The screen is actually capable of running in 1080p, but apparently Arcade1Up locked the games at 720p to keep the frame rate steady. It"s a trade-off that"s probably worth it considering the overall performance is so smooth.

At 59.5 inches tall (measured from the top of the scoreboard to the floor), it"s taller than other Arcade1Up machines with risers attached. The table is 35 inches from the floor, so if you have other Arcade1Up stools, you can use them with Star Wars Pinball. It"s only 36 inches long, which helps it fit against walls without sticking out excessively. While a 3/4 scale pinball table does look somewhat odd at first, I quickly got used to the constrained dimensions. The Star Wars art on the sides and scoreboard looks great and features many of the most iconic heroes and villains from the franchise.

Arcade1Up"s Star Wars Pinball machine has a list price of $600, but Walmart is currently selling it for $549. This price range is becoming more of the norm for Arcade1Up. With 10 included boards and an impressive build quality, Star Wars Pinball offers good value for a home pinball machine. There are home pinball machines that feature even more boards, though. For instance, AtGames" Legends Pinball has 22 licensed games. That said, Zen Studios" pinball games are exclusive to Arcade1Up.

Arcade1Up Star Wars Pinball cleverly replicates the feel of pinball on a digital table. Though it"s slightly disappointing that all of the boards hail from Zen Studios" video game, each of the boards offers a distinct experience that celebrates different movies and moments in Star Wars history. While 720p resolution hurts the overall look of each game, Star Wars Pinball still makes you feel like you"re playing real pinball for a fraction of the cost. The compact build size takes a little while to get used to, but the components have a premium look and feel.

Digital vs. Physical:There are two types of pinball machines out there: digital and physical. Physical machines are what you likely think of when you think “pinball machine”—it’s the traditional, authentic pinball experience you’d find in an arcade. The issue is physical machines are extremely expensive and require plenty of maintenance, which is what digital machines aim to solve. These still have the trappings of normal pinball cabinets, but instead of having the physical game inside, they have screens that display various pinball video games. These still include physical buttons and are more affordable, but it won’t be able to trick you into thinking it’s the real deal either. A big advantage of these though is they can have multiple pinball games loaded onto the machine providing more value. Which one you get is up to you, but just to be clear, digital machines are much easier to get your hands on.

Based on the classic pinball machine Attack on Mars from Midway, Arcade1Up delivers a home-friendly digital machine with more to offer than meets the eye. While the outside screams Attack on Marswith art faithful to the original game, the machine includes 10 different pinball games from Zen Studios in total—it will take you a while to get bored with the selection here.

When it comes to the actual hardware, Arcade1Up went above and beyond to capture the feeling of playing on a real pinball machine in a smaller (59.5 x 36 x 20.5 inches) form factor. There’s haptic feedback for the bumpers, stereo sound, and a high-quality screen which helps make the machine feel more authentic, while still reaping the benefits from being digital. It’s an excellent middle ground of size, features, and price.

For Marvel fans, Arcade1Up gathered a collection of great, digital pinball games inspired by the likes of Marvel’s most famous heroes. From Spider-Man to Wolverine, every Zen Studios game accurately reflects the personality and stories of that character (albeit, from the comics instead of the movies), which is sure to be a treat for any fan. There are 10 games in total, with the exterior art mashing all the characters together for a wonderful showcase of Marvel’s creations.

The machine doesn’t skimp out on the little touches either. Haptic feedback, stereo sound, and an indented screen all contribute to ensuring the machine feels as good to play as possible for the money. And measuring at 59.5 x 36 x 20.5-inches, it shouldn’t be too tough to fit this in a living room.

The final machine in Arcade1Up’s line-up whisks you off to the world of Star Warsfor 10 Zen Studio-created digital pinball games based on movies and characters from the beloved saga. Whether it’s Han Solo or The Force Awakens, these games ensure fans get their fill of galactic pinball with the excellent hardware expected from Arcade1Up (such as the quality construction, stereo sound, and haptic feedback for the buttons). The exterior art pays tribute to all three trilogies, and at 75% the size of a normal pinball machine (59.5 x 36 x 20.5-inches), it’s great for fitting in your home.

These games are full of small details that can’t be reproduced with a screen, so you know you’re getting your money’s worth here. The artwork is beautiful, the chassis is high-quality, and the machines are large and in charge—certain to grab everyone’s attention the second they walk into the room. Stern machines typically measure around 76 x 58 x 29-inches, so you’ll need to dedicate a decent amount of space for these.

Depending on whether you’re getting the tabletop (24-inch screen), mid-size (27-inch screen, pictured above), orfull-size (43-inch screen) you have a lot of options when ordering from the color of the cabinet to pre-applied artwork. Of course, this is going to require a lot of work once the kits come in as well. You need to put all the pieces together, along with providing displays, computers, buttons, and speakers. GameRoomSolutions allows you to create exactly what you want out of a pinball machine, but you still need to put the work and money in to make that a reality. Fortunately, there are breakdowns of exactly what you need to purchase and the compatible sizes listed on each kit’s product page.

We have tons of board games in our house and tons of iPads and game consoles that can play games, too. And yet, we all still ended up loving the most unlikely game console to enter our living room: a giant 24-inch screen embedded in a tablet with metal legs. The Infinity Game Table is, most definitely, a table. And it"s also a game platform.

Arcade1Up"s Infinity Game Table isn"t perfect and it doesn"t have all the games I"d want to play on it. And it"s way too expensive for most people to consider. But, it still made us smile a lot around my home after a week. Oddly enough, it became a fixture for a while. And then, like many things, we sometimes grew bored and moved on. New games kept us coming back, sometimes. Over a couple of months, it occasionally became more table than a game console.

Arcade1Up collected a whole bunch of board games for the table, which can be downloaded one by one to the onboard storage. There"s enough space for all available games so far. But they don"t come preloaded: You need Wi-Fi access to set it up and download the games. The 24-inch, 1,920x1,080-pixel LCD screen isn"t the best -- colors sometimes don"t look that vivid -- but it"s good enough to see from all angles. The touch response feels good, at least. And, weirdly, this table has rumble feedback. In some games, a loud buzzing shakes the table. That doesn"t come into play too often (the game of Operation uses it when you mess up, or Battleship when you sink a ship) and I could have done without it.

The existing batch of Hasbro games and more generic games are a mixed bag. They allow anywhere from two to six players and some are well designed for the tabletop experience: Monopoly places cards and controls all around the table edge and Sorry! is easy to control from any of the four sides. Some games like Candyland and Chutes and Ladders seem a lot less optimized, running only in vertical mode for some reason. Trouble and The Game of Life are natural successes, while games like Clue and Pandemic feel a little complex, and sometimes hard to figure out on the touchscreen.

Some games are really fun. Others, though, are totally lame-feeling. Operation is turned into a maze game where you drag items with your finger to an exit. Simon is a giant touchscreen pattern-matching game. A weird sumo-wrestling game that just appeared this week feels like a terrible ancient Flash game.

This table is my first gaming furniture review. So... is it a good table? Strangely enough, yes. Arcade1Up"s cabinets take some time to construct. The Infinity Game Table is a lot simpler: just snap in the metal legs and you"re basically set. The 24-inch model was manageable enough for me to put together by myself. (There"s a larger-screened version but it"s also in the table footprint, just with less bezel around the screen).

I miss this thing not having more serious games, like Catan, or Hive, or any of the other cool indie games I love. Puerto Rico? Carcassonne? Azul? Pyramid Arcade? Mansions of Madness? That"s what my massive board game collection is for. Or, my iPad. It"s what keeps the Infinity Game Table from feeling infinite. And I wonder if Arcade1Up has bitten off more than it can handle with a game platform this ambitious. At least other arcade cabinets made by the company stick to a well-known list of retro games... Would this have been better as just a Hasbro Game Table? How much would have I wanted to play it then?

And yet, we loved it. It"s something different and it"s made us play more, even though games literally surround us. Maybe it"s having a free table ready to go, clean and clear, and all ready to run. Maybe it"s the novelty. And of course, this is as much a novelty item as any Arcade1Up machine.
