Now we have this 5-inch TFT display with a touch screen that can provide a high-resolution picture and a large viewing screen for your Raspberry Pi. The display supports any revision of Raspberry Pi and works perfectly for Raspberry Pi B+/ 2B/ 3B. It is the low power consumption for the backlight of the screen. The high 800 x 480 resolution can give you a full-color experience, the touch screen allows users to play easily.
The resolution of the LCD display is 800 x 480, you can configure the resolution via software, and the maximum resolution it supports is 1920 x 1080. It is a USB capacitive touch screen and does not require a driver. It supports five touch control, besides that, the LCD screen comes with an OSD menu adjustment function. You can adjust the contrast, brightness, and switch button. There are 9 interfaces on the back of the screen, one earphone for audio output; two touches (USB connector), for power supply and touch output; one display, an HDMI interface, for connecting the motherboard and LCD display. One power, it can control the backlight to turn on and turn off to save power. One return, it’s only useful in the OSD menu. One right/down, backlight shortcut key. One left/up, backlight shortcut key. A menu, it’s useful in the OSD setting menu, open the OSD/ select key.

Compared with another type of 5-inch display for Raspberry Pi, the backlight of this 5-inch display can be controlled by Raspberry Pi GPIO pin 11. Generally, the backlight is on, then input a high level, and it will turn off. The Pin 11 control a MOS tube switch on or off, the MOS tube switch will enable and disable the EN end of the backlight power IC. This design makes it convenient to control the backlight when we put the display into a product and safe power at the same time.
I"ve been looking around for a small HDMI LCD screen to use as a seconday screen with Windows and it took a few months of research on and off before deciding on the Elecrow 5" HDMI monitor. For the most part, it took me a while because a lot of reviews here and on other sites were primarily about use and config with Raspberry Pi.
Having used it for a few months now I still can"t believe how clear and sharp the screen is! There are sadly no controls for brightness, colour, saturation or contrast but everything displayed looks very nice and accurate.
Usually when you see the resolution 800x480 you think how bad that looks when your PC doesn"t have the right drivers installed and it looks blocky. I know it"s all relative and about DPI but once I had it all connected and tested it was sharp and clear, almost HD. I wish I had bought one sooner as it is exactly what I was looking for having tried a Lilliput monitor.
As I"m using this with Windows, I"ve not needed to look through the included driver utility disc and not tried the resistive touchscreen so I can"t comment on those. Windows just detects it as a second display and lets me extend my desktop. No drivers needed. The box contains the LCD screen, a HDMI bridge connector that neatly connects the HDMI socket on the top of the screen to the HDMI socket on the Raspberry Pi when mounted together. Standoffs for mounting are also supplied plus a plastic stylus.
+ Runs off a single micro USB (socket also at the top next to HDMI socket) connected to PC USB so no additional external power adapters or sockets needed. It powers down whenever my PC is scheduled to power down so no lingering standby. Some motherboard USB ports do still continue to supply power for charging devices so your experience may differ.
- The only negative I can think of is the availability or lack of screen cases with cutouts to suit the position of the HDMI and USB sockets on this. The Elecrow has its HDMI and USB socket at the top edge of screen and nearly all cases I have looked at are designed for screens with HDMI and USB on the right edge. I"ve had to import one from China that had the cutouts for this screen. Took about 2 weeks to arrive. Wish I"d have ordered two cases at the same time to avoid the wait as I"m impressed with the clarity of Elecrow I hope to buy another one in near future.
! Just one more thing Columbo! I had originally wanted to buy Revision B of this screen with capacitive touch screen because it has OSD menu buttons. I can"t find any manuals but I"m hoping that OSD buttons allows settings for brightness as that was my other preferred criteria. Having said that, I think it would be even more impossible to find suitable case due to the positions of sockets and extra menu buttons on Revision B screen. Maybe Elecrow could provide some insight on available cases?

This was one of the annoyances with Lilliput monitor was a slow bright blue screen on power on before it would think about showing the feed. I know it"s only a few seconds but I specifically wanted instant feed on power on for future uses.+ Runs off a single micro USB (socket also at the top next to HDMI socket) connected to PC USB so no additional external power adapters or sockets needed. As a blessing in disguise, it prevents Windows/DirectShow from blinking all screens when it realises a monitor has been disconnected, that blink would often cause the video on my TV app to freeze. Turning off backlight doesn"t cause DirectShow to have a fit.+ Small and light enough that I have it attached to a gooseneck arm so can position it how I need. Do you think a small 60% keyboard could fit in there? I got no idea how big that thing is and I guess versions would be different on ebay. It"s a Raspberry Pi 5" Screen that I got off Amazon. It acts just as any monitor that you"d connect, except it"s tiny and 800x480. The screen is connected via HDMI and powered by USB-A to USB micro-usb. The USB is connected to a random port on motherboard so it turns on and off with the PC. I use Aida64 to create a SensorPanel with custom values chosen to be displayed. Also use MSI Afterburner w/ Riva Tuna Statistics to show the FPS on it.

I"m using this panel (they also have other larger options if 5" isn"t big enough) with the layout and information coming from Aida64. I wouldn"t recommend that route if you don"t already have an Aida64 license for some other reason though. CAM, which is what"s being used for this aio, is another option, though Rainmeter seems like the most popular approach.
The mini display is literally like your second monitor, you can put anything on it. I have NZXT CAM and MSI AFTERBURNER on it so I can monitor my computer temps, load, and clock of my gpu and cpu and overlock when I need to without it taking space on my main monitor.
Dammit. I just trawled my Amazon orders and found the one I bought but it"s 5". I"ll post it anyway. Someone may find it useful. (To use it involves config editing shenanigans or else it doesn"t use the whole display.)

but that specific one is bigger than what you asked for. I find the normal desktop gui hard to use on that 5" screen. some programs do not work well with short displays. That could be worse with a 3.5" depending on the actual resolution.
It"s a Raspberry Pi display. It"s only 800 x 480 and have less than ideal viewing angles. Definitely not for the image purists, but gets the job done and being USB powered (1A) is a bonus! Not having audio is not a big deal since I"m at work.
It would be a bit more expensive, but you could buy a small HDMI monitor like this one designed for the Raspberry Pi. I have that model and it works with a normal laptop, so it will probably work for your device. It appears as a standard monitor so you would always be able to see what"s going on.
Connect to your graphics card via HDMI and to your motherboard via micro-USB. Regular usb cable will work. I used a cable that terminated into a dupont header
Sure thing! It is this screen from Amazon, combined with a 3D printed bracket I found on Etsy. The Etsy store had links directly to the screen it was designed for, as well as to a low profile HDMI cable and noted that a right angle micro-USB cable was needed. I found this cable to keep everything internal (and just made sure to turn of USB power in my BIOS when PC is turned off, otherwise the screen stays on.) The HDMI cable is just routed down the case and plugged into the GPU.
Thanks! It"s a 5" 800x480 lcd display made for raspberry pi. It"s powered via micro usb and has hdmi input so when plugged to the pc it"s just another monitor, albeit very small. I use Aida64 to create a custom sensor panel to display stats when gaming, instead of my screen being taken up by msi afterburner/rtss. It"s a bit plain compared to the elaborate panels people have made, but I just like a simple easy to read interface. HERE is the panel I bought from Amazon and HERE HERE it is up close. I tried to place it inside my case but the glass panel on the TD500 mesh distorts the screen image.
Oh boy it"s a bit more technical than it looks but also really not that bad. You are right, it"s treated as another monitor since its running off of HDMI but you also want to power it via the USB header on your motherboard so that when the PC turns off the power to the monitor gets cut.
I would recommend using a raspberry pi screen, as it can be powered by a usb connector and can use either an hdmi from your gpu or be run off of a raspberry pi:

I was watching a randomfrankp video, tech under $50 and he talked about a 5in hdmi display. The one he linked was OOS but here is one in stock. It just won"t function as a touchscreen without the raspberry pi (i think). You can configure it to work just like any monitor and drag your system temps there to display them.
I lined the monitor up on the inside with the HDD case pushed as far forward (to the front of the case away from the PSU) as possible this actually gives enough space for cable management. If you aren"t using all your bays you could actually make this alot neater by putting it at the front but unfortunately I am using all 3 bays. I used a Sharpie to line up the place I needed to cut then just get to work cutting the hole which was by far the longest part of the process once the hole was cut I filed the edges and fitted the screen this screen is so nice because it sits flush with the case as the screen has a small back plate no glueing or adhesive was used and it fits snug in there. It needs a micro usb to power it (as above) so for cable managements sake I purchased NZXT internal usb hub to hide the wires then all I did was route the cable through the back into the spare HDMI port and the job was done. Use an extended window on windows to have the screen and drag the software onto the display.
The second one I linked, also has side connectors for USB power and HDMI. Makes it look cleaner in your scenario, where there"s a cutout to the right of the SSD mount, for easy cable routing :)
