The price of disposable face masks is spiking online as Americans gird for a widening outbreak of the coronavirus. Consumer demand for the medical accessory appears to be surging even as government officials say healthy individuals
As of Wednesday afternoon, Amazon had largely sold out of different mask varieties. Keepa, which tracks the prices of items sold on Amazon, shows that a 10-pack of 3M N95 respirators that sold for $18.20 roughly a month ago now costs $99.99. And one Amazon seller is offering a 30-pack of 3M N95 respirators for $198.98. On eBay, a two-pack of 3M N95 face masks is available for $59.99. Other retailers typically sell a pair of masks for less than $6, but are currently out of stock.
One Amazon customer told CBS MoneyWatch they bought 100 3M N95 respirator masks this week for $10 each, spending a total of $1,000 — an indication of the growing consumer anxiety about the risks of contracting the coronavirus in the U.S.
N95 masks are in demand because they filter out 95% of all airborne particles, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Yet the agency has noted that only people with coronavirus symptoms should use protective masks as a measure to help contain the disease. They are also recommended for health workers and others caring for infected patients.
Amazon sellers set their own prices for goods sold through the ecommerce giant"s online marketplace. Yet the company seeks to ensure "fair pricing" and this week has warned some sellers that they risk being suspended if they violate its pricing policies. That could include setting a price for a product or services that is "significantly higher than recent prices offered on or off Amazon" or charging excessive shipping and handling fees.
Ed Rosenberg, a third-party merchant on Amazon who also runs a support group for other sellers, said he"s aware of five different mask sellers who have been removed from Amazon for setting their prices too high.
Some mask sellers have tried to charge up to five times more than their usual prices, said Rosenberg, who noted that manufacturers are also facing higher costs. "They aren"t pulling masks out of the garage. Their costs have gone up, too, because either the masks are being made locally and are more expensive, or suppliers are charging the list price instead of offering discounts."
A total of 15 people in the U.S. have been diagnosed with the coronavirus, officially known as COVAD-19, but the CDC warned Tuesday that it expects many more cases to emerge.
U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar said the government has a stockpile of 30 million masks of different varieties, although he warned that N95 masks must be fitted and tested in order to be effective. The government is looking into producing roughly 300 million more N95 masks, but it"s unclear when that will happen.
Mask prices are also skyrocketing in Italy, where more than 260 cases of coronavirus have been reported. Authorities there are investigating soaring prices for hygienic masks and hand sanitizer.
"We have decided to open an investigation after media reports of the insane prices fetched up by these products (masks and gels) on online sales websites in the last two days," Milan"s deputy chief prosecutor told Reuters.
The masks in this section have either undergone the stringent NIOSH testing required to earn an official N95 designation or submitted the necessary testing results and paperwork for FDA clearance, whether via a now-revoked emergency use authorization or the 510(k) process.
Folded flat, most cone-shaped respirator masks—like the Powecom KN95—measure about 6 inches vertically unless otherwise noted. Yet each one fits differently depending on how it’s angled around the nose and chin, how pliable the material is, and whether the fasteners are ear loops or headbands.
In our experience, the BYD Care KN95 Respirator sealed well, thanks to its more easily adjustable headband fasteners, but the nose-bridge wire could slide down the nose and block the airway a bit. This may not be the case for people with higher nose bridges, though—so, as we’ve mentioned, we’ll continue evaluating this mask with a diverse panel of testers and update this guide accordingly. The fasteners have ridges, which improve grip. This KN95 had been listed under the FDA’s now-revoked emergency use authorization Appendix A.
BYD Care’s nonmedical N95, sold at Office Depot, is NIOSH-approved and is no longer flagged as “reserved for healthcare workers and first responders.” Compared with the brand’s KN95 respirator, this mask has shorter fasteners, which make for a more snug fit, and a somewhat stouter profile, which allows for more room above the nose and mouth. However, one tester described it as “actually painful to wear,” though that’s also the reason why she “trusts” it for doctor’s appointments at a hospital. (Pre-vaccination, my husband wore this N95 to the New York City public school where he has been teaching in person; he arrived home to find “reassuring” imprints on his face. Not everyone feels the same way about an ultra-snug fit.)
Florida-based wound-care company DemeTech, the maker of our surgical-mask pick, launched its respirator production early on in the pandemic. We like that the NIOSH-approved DemeTech respirators come in two designs (cup and foldable) and each in regular or small size. With their sturdy, ridged headbands, you can play with the positioning of these respirator masks for a better fit. My husband and I tried the regular-size foldable masks, and they stood up slightly less high off our faces, especially near the nose, compared with other masks we tried. But they formed a decent seal and, as other panelists noted, also felt lighter. At $75 for a box of 20, they’re as pricey as another lightweight respirator we tried, the 4CAir AireTrust Nano Mask. If you need just a few, a pack of five is available for less than $20.
Measuring just 5 inches vertically from top to bottom, the Korean-made and NIOSH-approved Dobu Mask 500 N95 is likely best for people with smaller faces; it barely covered my husband’s mouth, and other testers on our panel equated it to wearing a bra cup or hamburger bun on their face. (It fit two panelists perfectly, though.) A bracket keeps the fabric off the face, and a ring of soft, cotton-tee-like material surrounds the nose and mouth while somehow creating a comfortable seal without a nose-wire bridge. Plastic adjusters on each side easily help you tighten the ridged headbands. You can press this mask in half, but because of the bracket, it doesn’t stay folded like the others on this list. It’s also somewhat thicker overall. We’ve confirmed that the mask, available on Amazon (marked “sold and shipped by Dobu Mask”), is legitimate. As expected, the extra hardware makes for a more expensive mask (10 for $40) compared with most we’ve considered.
The much cheaper, foldable NIOSH-approved Dobu Mask 201 N95 fits snug like the BYD Care N95 but with slightly less clearance over the nose and mouth, and arguably a more gentle touch. Unlike the BYD Care N95, “they don’t dig into my eyes,” said one panelist. If you go through N95s on a regular basis (like my husband, who wears one to teach in-person classes every day), the Dobu masks can get pricey (at this writing, they’re nearly $40 for a pack of 25 on Amazon). For a more affordable, similarly shaped mask, consider the Powecom KN95 (sold in a headband option at about $1 per mask). Its elastics feel a bit looser but still create a secure—and generally more comfortable—seal, according to our panelists.
The Dr. Puri Micro-Dust Protection Mask isn’t NIOSH-approved, but a June 2020 filtration test run by NIOSH (PDF) on samples sent to the agency reported that it blocked more than 99% of 0.3-micron particles. It fit most of our panelists, though some testers thought it sat too close to the mouth despite its typical KF94 rectangular boat shape. Some testers said the masks smelled funny (“dusty,” described one panelist); we’d take these masks out of the packaging and let them air out before wearing. We confirmed that the mask sold via this Amazon link (labeled “sold by Dr. Puri Official”) is legitimate, and it’s at a slightly lower price than we’ve seen elsewhere.
FLTR sells the NIOSH-approved manufactured-in-China N95 Round Respirator, which we haven’t tried. Considering that it’s sold only in bulk (100 masks), we thought it was cost-prohibitive for people who’d like to make sure their mask fits before going all-in.
The Harley Commodity N95 Particulate Respirator, sold at Bona Fide Masks, may be a better fit than most for people with larger faces. It measures about a quarter-inch greater vertically, from tip to tip, compared with the 6-inch Powecom KN95—so it hits the corner of my eyes. I can breathe better in it, though, since the nose portion (complete with a nose pad) has a less-steep slope. If it’s the right size for your face, you’re likely to get a decent seal with the ridged, sturdily affixed, elastic headbands. And the mask is NIOSH-approved (see Guangzhou Harley).
The United States Mask Particulate Respirator N95 is manufactured domestically and NIOSH-approved. Similar in size vertically to the Harley Commodity mask (about 6¼ inches), it hits my lower eyelids. Its around-the-head bands are easy to knot for a good seal, assuming the mask fits your face. It also costs less (around $45 for 20 masks) than most other bifold-style N95s, which typically run about $3.50 or more per mask.
The Honeywell DF300 N95 Particulate Disposable Respirator is similar to the BYD KN95: It too offers a more snug fit for small faces than the Harley Commodity and United States Mask models. A piece of foam cushions its sturdy, pliable nose-bridge wire. It’s a bit pricier than our picks but cheaper than most others on this list. It’s also NIOSH-approved.
The Makrite 910 is a duckbill-shaped N95 like the Kimberly-Clark mask we recommend, but it is not nearly as comfortable. The thick material proved much less breathable for our testers, and the headbands looked and felt like thick, albeit smooth, rubber bands. The nose-bridge wire is cushioned by a foam strip, however, and this model is NIOSH-approved. You can play around with the bands for a better seal, but overall we found this mask to be quite restrictive and suffocating.
We were quite excited about the NIOSH-approved RespoKare N95 Respirator Mask’s pretty blue color and comfortable nose-bridge cushion, but some panelists found that the ear straps snapped off easily. While the large size was too large for many panelists (it might be good if you’ve determined that most masks are too small for you), the medium size was much smaller—and, in fact, too small for me. These masks have a strong vinegary smell out of the package, and they cost considerably more than our picks.
We liked the CVS Health Medical Face Mask when we tested it, but consistent stock issues keep it from being a pick in this guide. This mask has a strikingly softer underlayer—much softer than that of most other surgical masks we’ve tried, including our pick from DemeTech. The version we tried met ASTM Level 2 standards, which meant it could filter out at least 98% of 0.1-micron particles, assuming a perfect seal; however, we’ve noticed that the masks are now labeled as meeting ASTM Level 1 standards. The generous ear loops should help this mask fit wider faces, and they’re easily knotted for narrower ones.
With many products sold out in stores, shoppers are racing to online retailers to order face masks, hand sanitizer, hazmat suits and other items to protect against the coronavirus.
Meanwhile, online retailers are playing a game of whack-a-mole to remove listings making misleading claims about the coronavirus or overcharging for products that have spiked in demand. Amazon, for example, said last week that it removed more than 1 million products for violating its policies related to price gouging and coronavirus claims. But plenty of listings still show up across various online shopping sites.
Shoppers are stocking up in-store and online as the coronavirus continues to spread. As of Tuesday, there were more than 91,300 confirmed cases of the coronavirus worldwide, with at least 3,110 deaths. There are at least 91 confirmed or presumptive positive cases of the coronavirus in the U.S, and at least six deaths.
Last week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said it was monitoring the market for any products that make fraudulent coronavirus prevention and treatment claims. The agency said it would issue "warning letters, seizures or injunctions against products on the market that are not in compliance with the law."
Consumers have snapped up surgical masks out of fear of catching the coronavirus, even though the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention does not currently recommend people who are well wear a mask. Third-party sellers on several platforms have exploited this fear by incorrectly marketing face masks with specific keywords such as "coronavirus face mask" or "N95 face mask," referring to a specific type of respirator that keeps out small airborne particles.
Rocio Zamora, an Amazon Prime member, experienced this firsthand. Earlier this month, Zamora purchased a box of 10 3M N95 masks from a third-party seller, so that she could protect herself from germs while visiting her sick son in the hospital, she told CNBC. The masks cost about $20, but the seller charged Zamora $100 to ship the item via standard delivery from Houston to her New York City-area residence.
When the item arrived, she opened the box and discovered the masks weren"t N95 respirators, but masks "used for construction," Zamora said. She returned the masks but Amazon wasn"t able to issue her a refund. Amazon has since taken down the listing and told Zamora it would investigate why the seller charged her $100 for shipping. The seller, Spoon n Fork, didn"t immediately respond to a request for comment.
Last week, Amazon said it took down more than 1 million products from its third-party marketplace for making unverified claims about the coronavirus. The marketplace, which accounts for more than half of the company"s retail volume, is made up of millions of third-party merchants who offer products, new and used, from all over the world that they purchase from official distributors, flea markets and clearance aisles.
Amazon also sent out a notice to European sellers warning against mentioning the terms "Covid-19" and "Coronavirus" in their listings, according to a document obtained by CNBC. "In this situation, we invite you to behave in good faith and to keep customers" trust, as well as to comply with the Business Solutions agreement and Amazon policies," the notice states.
EBay has also faced similar issues with sellers looking to capitalize on consumer fears about the coronavirus. An eBay spokesperson told CNBC that the company has taken down more than 20,000 products for making unsubstantiated health claims about the coronavirus.
"On our marketplace, eBay has been employing a combination of digital and manual surveillance tools to remove products marketed with the term "coronavirus," which violates our policies regarding making unsubstantiated health claims," the spokesperson said. "We are also taking action to mitigate the inflated price of masks listed on the site."
Despite the crackdown, the platform still hosts its fair share of face masks with coronavirus marketing claims, some of which have been removed since CNBC first identified them. There"s also plenty of examples of pandemicand epidemic survival kits on eBay. A listing for a hat, which eBay has since removed, claimed it would "prevent droplet transmission...of any virus" and mentioned coronavirus in the product description, which violates eBay"s policies. Users also posted on eBay community forums with complaints about dubious face masks.
Alibaba last month announced a similar crackdown on dubious face masks. The company announced in a Weibo message Feb. 4 that it had intercepted and removed 570,000 masks of questionable problems.
Other platforms, including Walmart and Etsy, said they"d removed products with misleading medical claims. An Etsy spokesperson told CNBC that it has removed "thousands of items with medical claims that violate our policies," including those that claim to protect against the coronavirus, over the past few days. A Walmart spokesperson said the company is continuing to monitor the site for products that make unsubstantiated medical claims, but declined to share data on how many products it has removed so far.
As supply has diminished, the price of hand sanitizer, face masks, disinfectants, hazmat suits, gloves and other products has skyrocketed. Many online platforms have distributed notices to sellers warning them not to gouge prices. Others have removed listings or suspended sellers who fail to follow the rules.
Amazon has suspended or removed tens of thousands of deals from sellers that it accused of charging customers unfair prices, the company said last week. Walmart and Etsy told CNBC that they"re taking down listings with inflated prices, while eBay said it"s complying with local price gouging laws and removing masks that are "priced 10x above the standard price of approximately 75 cents a piece." The companies didn"t provide specific data on how many listings have been suspended or removed for price gouging.
On Amazon, the price of face masks and hazmat suits has surged. According to Jungle Scout, which creates product research software for Amazon sellers, the average price of DuPont hazmat suits has risen 13% from $9.68 to $11.08, though the site had suits listed as high as $23.37. CNBC found one third-party listing for a DuPont hazmat suit priced at $64.99.
The average price of N95 face masks has gone up even more. Before Amazon ran out of stock, N95 face masks were priced at $13.28, but Jungle Scout found prices have since spiked 582% to $63.95. Sellers are also gouging prices of disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer, with a two-pack of travel-size Purell sanitizer priced at $30.
There are numerous examples of price gouging on other platforms as well. A 20-pack of Gerson 1730 face masks is currently available on eBay for as much as $148, while a pack of five 2.5-ounce Germ-X hand sanitizer bottles costs $500.
On Walmart"s marketplace, CNBC found a listing for a 50-pack of Halyard surgical masks priced at $50 and 10 boxes of 50 disposable masks for $80. Both were removed from the site after CNBC asked Walmart about the listings.
Meanwhile, on Etsy, a package of 20 Gerson N95 masks was $75 and 20 N95 Moldex masks were $250. The listings were removed after CNBC asked Etsy about them.
Price gouging isn"t a new phenomenon on the web, but it"s likely to continue as the coronavirus spreads. Amazon faced complaints of price gouging during Hurricane Irma in 2017, when customers complained of sharply inflated prices for essentials like bottled water.
In some cases, sellers who inflate prices may not just be violating a site"s policies. Many U.S. states have laws in place to prevent price gouging. Sellers who fail to follow the law can face fines of tens of thousands of dollars in some states.

Regularly wearing face masks could soon become part of the country’s new reality during the pandemic, as social norms shift to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus, but consumers are not willing to spend much on the product. While prices for face masks vary depending on the seller, new Morning Consult polling found consumers’ ideal price is just $1.
A Morning Consult analysis based on the Van Westendorp model — which finds an optimum price point for goods or services by considering what prices consumers believe are “too expensive” and “too good to be true” — found that consumers would pay $1 to $3 for a face mask, with $1 being the optimal price.
Face masks on platforms such as Amazon.com Inc., along with at local shops such as bodegas in New York, are offering reusable and disposable face masks in value packs or for only a couple of dollars each, but many retailers that have started only recently begun producing reusable masks are charging closer to $10 to $30 a pop.
Face masks have become more popular in recent weeks. Sixty-six percent of U.S. adults said they have worn a mask in public in the past month, according toApril 14-16 polling, a 16-point increase from those who said the same justlast week. The most recent survey was conducted among 2,200 U.S. adults and holds a margin of error of 2 percentage points.
Beginning Friday, New Yorkers will be required to wear face coverings when out in public and social distancing is not possible, according to an executive order issued by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The Trump administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have also issued guidelines this month encouraging people to wear face masks.
Homemade face masks don’t provide the same level of protection as surgical masks or professionally sewn masks, but plenty of people around the country are creating their own protective gear. Websites such as Sewing For Lives have cropped up, providing tips for anyone who wants to make masks at home.
Some companies are struggling to keep up with demand, especially brands that are taking on face mask production while still selling their other products.
Caraa, which typically produces luxury sports bags, added a note to its product description telling customers that its employees are “working around the clock” to fulfill reusable face mask orders, while menswear brand Buck Mason and designer Christine Alcalay both warned of potentially longer-than-usual wait times as they donate masks to essential workers first.
Caraa sells reusable masks in packs of five for $25, Buck Mason’s go for $20 for five, and Christine Alcalay’s masks are $29 for one. Amazon lists a range of reusable and throwaway masks for under $5.
Many more face mask sellers have posted notes on their sites informing shoppers of delays in production or delivery due to high volumes of orders, but one seller sees a limit to the industry.
Brooklyn-based designer Sheena Sood, the founder of ethically produced clothing company Abacaxi, said she started selling face masks with pockets for filters on her website less than three weeks ago for $20, but she raised the price to $30 after contracting a tailor to help with production.
“Right now, everyone needs a mask. There’s a huge demand,” she said, noting that with the increased interests in masks, she’s received several orders for clothing as well. “But at some point, I feel like people will have purchased all the masks that they need.”

Stranger Things review roundup S4 is bigger longer & scarierCameron Frew Published: 2022-05-25T11:23:20 Updated: 2022-05-25T11:23:20NetflixStranger ThingsNetflixThe Stranger Things kids preparing for S4’s finale. Stranger Things has returned with its penultimate fourth season. In the creators’ own words, it’s the “beginning of the end” – according to critics, it’s the most ambitious chapter
we’ve seen yet. It’s been three years since the third season of Netflix’s flagship series, following a sleepy American town’s ragtag gang of friends and family facing off against interdimensional monsters from the Upside Down. While the first teaser for the new season – revealing David Harbour’s Hopper to be alive and somewhat well in a Russian prison after his apparent death – arrived in 2020, fans have had to wait a bit longer than intended due to global restrictions. The time has finally come. On Friday, May 27, Stranger Things returns to Netflix via the first volume of season four, with the second due to be released in July.
Stranger Things S4 What to expect from the Netflix show s return The streaming platform’s official synopsis reads: “It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time, and navigating the complexities of high school hasn’t made things any easier. “In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.” Fans can expect to see all of their favorite characters, including Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Will (Noah Schnapp), Max (Sadie Sink), Steve (Joe Keery), Nancy (Natalia Dyer),
What critics are saying about Stranger Things S4 The early reviews have been vastly positive. Eric Francisco of Inverse praised the show for “recapturing the magic” of the first season, marking “a new level of sophistication in its technical and creative visions.” Kristen Baldwin of Entertainment Weekly, who expressed skepticism from the outset of the season in her review, was “delighted” to have been proven wrong. Read More: Netflix kickstarts gaming efforts with two Stranger Things mobile titles She wrote: “Fresh locales, appealing new characters, and a rewarding expansion of the mythology give the new season of Stranger Things a jolt of joyful energy, just when the series needed it most.”
Stranger Things S4 runtimes have divided critics The fourth season attracted apprehension for its beefy runtimes: each episode is longer than an hour, with the final episode set to boast a jaw-dropping length of two hours and 30 minutes. This, plus the three-pronged story approach with characters scattered across Hawkins, California and Russia, has invited some criticism. Ben Travers of IndieWire wrote that “longer does not equal better,” believing the long runtimes to be “no favor to fans… characters stagnate while clunky puzzle pieces are given priority; repetitive visual effects are overemphasized to mask the missing
emotional impact; episodic structure is abandoned.” Read More: Ancient Blockbuster tweet goes viral following decline in Netflix users Coming after Netflix reported its first-ever drop in subscribers, Travers also noted how the fourth season feels as if it’s been “designed to produce good data rather than quality entertainment.”
NetflixSomehow, Hopper returned. Alan Sepinwall of Rolling Stone said the first seven episodes weren’t “promising” when it comes to supporting the runtimes. “There is a very good – if increasingly formulaic – season of Stranger Things here, but it is jockeying for space with what feels like an entire additional, much less interesting season of television,” he added. On the other hand, Chris Bennion of The Telegraph was far more supportive, acknowledging the “coast-to-coast” lengths but writing: “Too much? Not a bit of it. Stranger Things is a 1980s Americana theme park, and it is all the better when it embraces that fact.” Vicky Jessop of the London Evening Standard described season four as “bingeable television at its best” and wrote: “Though some parts drag, on the whole the finished product is cohesive and compelling, filling every second with nail-biting tension or chewy plot material.”
Stranger Things may have found its scariest villain ever While reviewers have praised the not-so-young-anymore cast, hype has surrounded Hawkins’ new big bad: Vecna, described by several critics as a Freddy Krueger-esque villain who feeds off the guilt
of local teenagers. Sophie Butcher of Empire wrote that Vecna is a “chilling” antagonist who “uses your worst nightmares as his most terrifying weapon.” Kelly Lawler of USA Today took a dim view of the “depraved” tone, but stated: “This season is by far the most steeped in horror, and it is deeply, viscerally frightening, from jump scares to worming psychological terror that will stick in your mind long after your binge-watch is completed.”
NetflixStranger Things is upping the horror in its fourth season. Daniel Fienberg of The Hollywood Reporter also wrote that it’s “the most violent and frequently gross Stranger Things season to date.” However, he also highlighted the season’s true villain: time. “Another problem is the kids. They’ve all grown far more than the story’s timeframe can justify, and one could argue that puberty, along with the monsters in the Upside Down, is the season’s Big Bad,” he wrote. The first volume of season four of Stranger Things arrives on Netflix on Friday, May 27. The first seven episodes will release in volume one, before the final two episodes are released as part of volume two on July 1.

New Minecraft Bedrock Beta finally adds Spectator mode to the base game × Follow Us Create Notifications New User posted their first comment this is comment text Link Approve Reject & ban Delete Log in Manage your profile Editing Story Queue
Akshat Kabra Modified Oct 14, 2022 07:34 PM IST Follow Us Comment Share The long awaited spectator mode has finally made its way to Minecraft Bedrock Edition Beta version (Image via Mojang) Spectator mode is a special Minecraft game mode through which players can go through solid blocks and see all openings present in the world, be it caves, structures, and other features. This was only present in the Java Edition game. For years, Bedrock Edition has been complaining about not having the same amount of features as Java Edition. Luckily, Mojang is trying to bring both editions closer by making a lot of changes. One of them was related to spectator mode. While they introduced it a few months back under the experimental toggle in Bedrock Edition, it has now come out of the section.
are invisible and ghost-like entities that can go through solid blocks and explore the world (Image via Mojang) Spectator mode is a game mode where players get to fly and observe the world without interacting with it in any way. It essentially turns them into a ghost-like entities. They will become invisible and will be able to fly around, go through blocks and other entities, and view any kind of opening through solid blocks. Not only will spectators be able to see through solid blocks, but they will also be able to fly through them. As soon as users go through one, they will essentially enter a mode where they can see each and every cave opening, the mobs that spawn in those openings, and much more. However, other entities will not be able to detect a spectator, and the latter will not be able to interact with any entity, item, or block in the world. This mode is primarily to spectate the entire world without any hassle.
The spectator mode will be available under the personal game mode tab in Minecraft Bedrock Edition (Image via Mojang) First, you must ensure that you are on the latest 1.19.50.20 version of the Bedrock Edition Beta. This is where the spectator mode was shifted, from the experimental section to the base game. Once the Bedrock Edition beta opens, you can create a new world or enter an old one to test the game mode. There are two ways to toggle spectator mode: from the settings menu or the commands.
Spectator mode will most likely be added to Minecraft Bedrock Edition before the next 1.20 update release (Image via Mojang) Mojang started working on the Bedrock Edition spectator mode even before the 1.19 update was announced. The beta version"s update confirms that it is nearly finished and will most likely be officially added with the next incremental update.
Of course, Mojang will soon be hosting a Minecraft Live event to announce the Minecraft 1.20 update. However, the spectator mode will most likely be added to the Bedrock Edition much sooner. Twitch bans slots and other gambling activities after widespread backlash × Follow Us Create Notifications New User posted their first comment this is comment text Link Approve Reject & ban Delete Log in Manage your profile Editing Story Queue
Richik "anarkiddie" Bhattacharya Modified 21 Sep 2022 Follow Us Comment Share Twitch passes gambling reform (Image via Sportskeeda) The #Twitchstopgambling trend, which was started by streamers like Matthew "Mizkif" Rinaudo in the aftermath of the ItsSliker controversy, seems to have finally paid off. Twitch has announced that it will ban a number of websites that allow betting and games not licensed in the US from October 18, 2022. In a tweet, the platform said:
"Gambling content on Twitch has been a big topic of discussion in the community, and something we’ve been actively reviewing since our last policy update in this area. While we prohibit sharing links or referral codes to all sites that include slots, roulette or dice games, we’ve seen some people circumvent those rules and expose our community to potential harm."

While betting on Twitch has been a long-term phenomenon, its recent upsurge in popularity came after big streamers like xQc and TrainwrecksTV started taking big sponsorships. Addressing the recent controversy, the company has announced that they will officially ban the following activities:
SlotsRouletteDice games Twitch has also publicly named a few big websites that host such games, and among them are some of the biggest sponsors of its top streamers:
Stake.comRollbit.comDuelbits.comRoobet.com Additionally, the purple platform has stated that the list is not final, and more names may be added in the future.
LET S GOOOOO Pokimane and other streamers who were at the forefront of the Twitch Stop Gambling movement react to the update Streamers such as Pokimane, Asmongold, Ninja, and HasanAbi expressed joy at Twitch"s new policy, with Ludwig even calling it the "GREATEST POLICY UPDATE IN 2022":
Asmongold reacts to Twitch"s latest update (Image via Twitter/@Asmongold) Gambling content gained popularity on Twitch last year and entered the top ten most-watched categories on the platform this May. Slots dethroned the popular battle royale game, Call of Duty: Warzone, to become the tenth entry on the list. It held on to the position until September.
Many in the streaming community condemned the unfiltered access to streams featuring gamblers. The backlash started after Mizkif called on the platform to ban such streams while reacting to ItsSliker"s confession that he scammed others to pay off his gambling debt.

I just bought an air fryer - don t make the same mistake I did Update By Henry T. Casey published 21 June 2022 The one detail I skipped over turned into a headache (Image credit: Henry T. Casey for Tom"s Guide) This is a simple, yet frustrating, story about how I wanted an air fryer and wound up with a very good one that also annoys the heck out of me. It all started a couple of years ago. Editor"s note: This story has been updated to reflect some cleaning tips we"ve gotten from commenters (though I still wish I"d gotten a different model).
But in my household, counter-top space was at a premium. And I"ve been able to make do in other ways. Flash-forward to a month ago, when our oven became unreliable. After a couple weeks of frustration and odd mistakes I won"t bore you with, we needed a new way to cook. So, a countertop was cleaned off, things were moved around the apartment, and voila: we had just the
I looked around online and through our own list of the best air fryers, and asked my friends online if they had recommendations about air fryers they own and love. While our testing standards are impeccable at Tom"s Guide, I love the added seal of approval known as "someone I know swears by this."
Since we"re still waiting for our oven situation to be sorted out, and because my roommates thought toaster oven-style air fryers were definitively better (for shallow reasons based around phrases like "those ugly black canister air fryers look cheap," I eventually settled on a Cuisinart Air Fryer Toaster Oven, specifically the Cuisinart TOA-70 ( $229 on Amazon) (opens in new tab). A friend said it"s served her family well, so I thought, "well, time to jump into a years-old cooking trend!"
When I got it in, everything looked great. I was a little surprised by the number of different inserts for all the different kinds of cooking, but it"s a multi-function device made to convection bake, convection broil, grill, roast, toast, reheat, defrost and more. Also, I did admire how nice and premium it looked and felt.
As our Cuisinart Air Fryer Toaster Oven review says "This model didn"t score well for ease of cleaning - none of the accessories are coated with a nonstick finish and Cuisinart doesn"t recommend popping them in the dishwasher." I don"t know what it is about the included
And this is the specific line I shouldn"t have not taken so lightly "It can take a bit of elbow grease to scrub off bits and pieces from the air fryer basket and burnt-on grease from the baking pan." This is 100% correct, as I learned when I made my own air fried wings. They tasted great, the crisp was perfect, but the air fryer basket seen below took way more effort than I expected. Mostly that"s because of how tiny the holes in the wiring are, so it requires a detail-oriented attack.
It was around this time that I started to look at all the other models I considered. The words "non-stick coating" almost appeared to be in a larger font than when I"d read these listings the first time. And that"s when I almost let out a big Homer Simpson-sized "d"oh!"
UPDATE: I originally complained about how it was hard to clean the insides of the Cuisinart Air Fryer Toaster Oven. But thankfully a couple of our commenters explained that there"s a removable tray that I didn"t see explained in the dense manual. You just slide it out from the front!
that, I"d have filed for Amazon"s return policy, as I"m within the 30 days. I"m gonna try and find new and faster ways to clean this thing, and I"ll get used to it.
So, readers, learn from my mistake. If you want an air fryer, and you don"t need it to be an oven? Don"t get a toaster oven-style model. Check out our Cosori Smart Wifi Air Fryer review, and see why it"s our top air fryer. I also wish my Cuisinart model had its digital timer. Using dials feels like I"m back in the 1990s. And not in a fun way, either.

Just grab the bottom beneath the glass door and pull. With respect to cleaning, the issue is the same with any oven or appliance that reaches a high temperature. With the Cuisinart as needed I just take the wire rack, the drip tray, and the bottom tray out, spray them with Easy Off, and let the Easy Off sit for ten minutes. Voila, like new. Reply MongoCaver We have used this exact fryer for years. Wings, pork chops, turnovers, etc. No problem.
I think the author makes a mountain out of a mole hill. Reply Halsver You had me worried, I have this oven and it"s been great. Some may consider less fried Teflon in their food a feature, not a bug! Reply Adrienne Boswell I have had a 12.7-quart GoWise rotisserie roaster air fryer for two years. It"s a similar type. I use parchment paper that I poke holes in with a toothpick for things I think might stick to the rack. Even when things do stick, it"s simply a matter of putting the
Mine has a drum that can hold food to rotate. I was stupid and forgot to soak raw fries in water before cooking them. Even with a ton of seasoned starch gunk all over the drum, it still wasn"t that bad and my fries were perfect
Besides, you can"t fit an 8-inch casserole in a basket style air fryer. I love being able to cook a casserole in the blazing heat of summer without turning my kitchen into an inferno. Reply lance_rl I am not convinced the author actually wanted to write an honest review on this device. Echoing the other comments, the Cuisinart air fryer is fantastic and clean up simply takes a little extra thought. The review is simply quite wrong. The crumbs inside are easily dispatched by sliding the tray out for a quick wipe down over the sink (the same as every other toaster oven I"ve owned, not really a mystery feature). The cook trays clean up fine after a bit of a soak, the gripe is actually confusing. Buy the Cuisinart and revel in the ability to cook so many ways with one little device. I"ve now learned it and will update the story. The wire-basket though is just maddening. I"m going to look into EasyOff, though! the author makes a mountain out of a mole hill.I"m wishing y"all had written the manual for this and not cuisinart! Reply Optiva10 I think the editor also needs to consider that just returning products to Amazon is encouraging waste and further landfill . Amazon has an agreement % with supplier that they charge back to the supplier. That allows them to just trash any returned products to landfill . We can"t continue to have a disposable attitude to goods we purchase if we want to protect our environment Reply Karinski I use the Ninja Foodie XL and it is much preferable to my mom"s Cosori. It has a bunch of extra functions, holds more, cooks more evenly, and, in my experience, smokes less. For clean up we a) cover the drip tray with tinfoil/parchment paper* b) use a scrub brush that holds dishwashing soap to easily get between the holes in the grate tray. Absolute worst case, we soak the grate tray while we eat, but that"s only for bacon grease. These easy tips that are all over Internet air fryer articles. Anyway, I hope you come to enjoy yours better.
*Unless your food is extremely greasy, a tinfoil covering last quite a few cooking sessions!
