westinghouse lcd panel replacement quotation
The term ‘flat screen’ applies to a wide range of TV types, from LCDs to the latest 4K and Smart models. A flat screen means the TV’s screen surface is flat rather than convex like older models. There can be several different types of flat-screen TVs, from older LCD to the newest Smart and 4K TVs. The type impacts the repair costs because more advanced and expensive TVs have more costly components to replace or fix. In addition, some TV repairs may not always be possible on that type. For example, it is not possible to replace the screen on a plasma TV if it cracks and begins to leak. The table below shows common television types and average repair costs for each:
Repairs for LCD TVs cost between $60 and $400. LCD televisions are one of the most popular options on the market, available in a wide range of sizes and styles. They use an LCD (liquid crystal display) with backlights to produce images. The backlights, screen, and other components may get damaged over time and need repairing.
LED TV repairs range from $60 to $400, depending on the scale of the problem. LED televisions are a specific type of LCD TV that use LED backlights to illuminate the liquid crystal display. These TVs usually produce more colorful and vibrant images and are more energy-efficient, but the LED backlights may need to be repaired or replaced over time.
TV panel repairs average $200 to $400 in some cases, but some panels cannot be repaired. For this reason, many companies do not offer panel repair. So if your television gets a crack in the panel, you may be better off buying a new unit instead.
In some cases, your TV components may not be able to be repaired, or it might be more cost-effective to replace them with new ones. The repair price includes the cost of new parts, plus the labor required to fit them into place and remove the broken components. While some components can be replaced, they may be extremely expensive or cost-prohibitive to do so. This is mainly in the case of panels and screens because they often contain too many parts to replace on their own. The table below shows average costs for a variety of common replacements:
Fuse replacement in a TV costs between $60 and $150 and is one of the easier replacement jobs for a repairman. Glass and ceramic fuses on your TV’s power supply board may blow in certain situations and need replacing. To replace a fuse, the repairman opens the TV to access the power panel and swaps out the fuse.
Replacing a TV capacitor is inexpensive, starting at $60 up to $200. If more than one capacitor needs replacing, it is usually less expensive to replace the entire board. Capacitors cannot be repaired, so replacement is the only option.
TV bulb replacement costs average $75 to $200. Bulbs are usually found only in older models of LCD TVs or projection TVs. They are used to illuminate the display so that the picture can be seen. Bulbs are relatively easy to replace, but the material costs are a little higher with bulbs when compared to other components, leading to varied replacement prices from model to model.
TV backlight replacements cost between $100 and $200 on average, depending on the television size and scale and the type and number of lights required. If you have LED lights, parts may be more expensive, leading to higher total costs. Usually when backlight problems occur, the bulbs or diodes are dead and need to be replaced.
Picture tube replacements range from $200 to $300 on average. Picture tubes, also known as cathode ray tubes or CRTs, are only used in older TVs. So, this is not a replacement job you need to worry about with an LED or LCD TV.
HDMI port replacement on a TV costs between $200 and $300. Damaged or broken ports may simply stop working or be incompatible with certain HDMI cables. In this case, a new port must be fitted and connected to the circuit board, requiring a couple of hours of labor.
TV motherboard replacements average $200 to $400. Often when a problem occurs with a motherboard, it needs to be completely replaced rather than repaired. The motherboard controls the TV’s functions and features, and a broken motherboard makes your television completely unusable.
TV screen replacement costs at least $400 to $1,000 and often much more. The screen is the most expensive part of a TV. So usually, the cost of replacing it is higher than just buying a new unit. In some cases, this is because the screen cannot be replaced without also replacing most of the other components, particularly for TVs like LED, LCD, or plasma. Most professional repair companies do not offer screen or panel replacement as a service.
TV panel replacement costs a minimum of $400 to $5,000 and often a lot more on some of the high-end 4K and Smart screen displays. Because the cost of a replacement panel is so high, it is usually more cost-effective to simply purchase a new television. Like the screen, this is due to the number of components involved. Therefore, most repair places will not offer panel replacement as a service.
You might not know exactly which part of your TV is broken or damaged at first. The symptoms of a broken television vary from vertical colored lines across the screen to audio issues, power problems, and even situations where the television starts normally but then turns itself off. For this reason, most repairs start with a diagnostic so that the problem can be found and a plan made for repair. For some repairs to be made, the part will need to be replaced, while in other cases, repair or replacement of that part may not be possible. The table below shows common problems and average repair costs for each.
Repairing horizontal lines on your TV costs between $150 and $400. It might be an issue with the motherboard, or it could be a problem with loose cables between the panel and the control board. To fix this issue, the television needs to be opened up and analyzed by a professional repairman.
The Vizio TV is known for its screen of death (a blank or black screen) and usually costs about $200 to $400. The problem is most often a blown motherboard, and replacement is the only option. A factory reset may be a solution. If that doesn"t work, the motherboard is the best possible answer.
Often, you must decide whether it is worth repairing your TV because in many situations, the cost of repairs is higher than the price of a new TV. For example, when screens are cracked or damaged, the cost of replacing a panel is usually much higher than simply buying a new TV.
Not all TV screens can be fixed or replaced. Certain types have components behind the screen that can be damaged by its removal. However, if you choose to proceed, remove all external cables, unplug your set, and lay it face down on a flat, soft surface. Remove any screws holding the frame in place and then gently remove the frame and set it aside. Put your new screen in place and reconnect the internal cables in the same manner you disconnected them. It is usually best to get a professional to handle TV repairs, and the cost of replacement screens is often very high. So, it may be more cost-effective to get a new TV.How many years will a flat-screen TV last?
Like many other electronics, your Westinghouse TV has a lifespan. It could get dropped or hit hard enough to warrant a replacement. When this happens, there are a number of things you"ll need to consider before you make your next move.
Like other parts, it is possible to replace the screen of your TV. You only need to assess the extent of the damage. To do this, check whether the plasma or the LCD pixels behind the screen are still intact. It will be possible to repair your Westinghouse Television if they are. On the other hand, any damage to these two areas would necessitate a change of TV.
There are a number of features that you can check to determine whether your LED is working fine. If you notice these features, then your LCD is indeed faulty:
If you notice these features in a new package, you need to contact the manufacturer for a possible replacement. In this regard, make sure you keep your purchase receipts, the model number, and the serial number of your Westinghouse television close. You can find these on the back of your television set.
Once you have purchased your replacement, consider getting an electrician to fix it for you. If not, however, you can replace it by yourself. Here is the procedure you can use for this. Remember that you can optionally get a second-hand replacement, rather than a new one.
Remove broken screen - You will want to do this very carefully taking care not to break any clips that could be in reinforcing your Westinghouse LCD TV screen.
Replace - Once all this is done your new part is ready to be fitted. Your new Westinghouse LCD replacement should fit snuggly into your TV. Ensure that everything is connected exactly how it was before disassembly. The photo you took earlier should come in hand for this.
Fixing a malfunctioning television instead of throwing it away and buying a new one can save you hundreds (or even thousands) of dollars. TV repair professionals work on plasma, LCD, LED, OLED, HD, HDR and a range of other screen types. These pros have the tools, training, and experience to resolve most TV-related problems. As TV screens have gotten bigger and technology more advanced, TV repair requires a lot more technical knowledge than it used to.
What was the problem: The LCD was experiencing intermittent problems powering up and suddenly powering off. Commercial Service Co. first checked the power supply for bad parts and found it to be working properly. The service tech next checked the main circuit board and discovered that was the problem board.
It can cost you up to of $100 to repair a cracked LCD TV screen. Check to see if your TV is still under warranty — you might be able to get the screen repaired for a reduced cost if the damage is under warranty.
In April 2008, I purchased a Westinghouse 32" LCD TV (SK-32H240S) from Walmart for $550. This week the screen went black after being powered on allowing only the sound to function. Although the remote allows the channels to be changed (confirmed by sound), nothing can be seen on the TV itself-- no menu screens, channel numbers, or anything else.
Interestingly, the "W" logo and normal picture flashes on for about 2 seconds after the TV is powered on, then goes black. I cannot get through to Westinghouse customer service and decided to utilize the extra 2-year warranty we purchased through Walmart with the TV. They promised a prepaid shipping box, free repair, a new TV, or a gift card, so we will see. We"re hoping it was an extra $58 well spent.Read full review
I purchased a Westinghouse widescreen HDTV (model SK-26H240S) in April 2008 (Sam"s Club was the retailer; $398+ tax). In the past few months, it has begun to turn itself off. Yesterday it turned itself off after being on for only a moment or two. I checked the cables, unplugged and re-plugged the TV into the outlet, but to no avail. The unit has died. I sought assistance from Westinghouse, first via phone (but their offices are only open M-F) and then by internet leaving them a message regarding the unit. I began searching the internet seeking more information, assistance of some sort helping me understand what was happening and why.
I stumbled across a website full of consumer complaints about the entire HDTV and LED TV lines produced by Westinghouse - all with the same complaint. Consumers are paying fair market value for these television sets believing them to be a good product based on the legacy of the Westinghouse name only to learn there is a faulty board in the unit (when serviced) that will cost more than the original cost of the television set in some cases to repair. Fellow consumers who actually get Westinghouse to respond have stated they are being offered a refurbished replacement unit for $250 plus freight cost, but Westinghouse is refusing to admit there is a known issue.
They are purposely selling an inferior product, duping consumers into another big ticket purchase within a matter of a few months or even a year or two. My financial situation is tight now that I can"t just run right out at this moment and buy a new TV set. The money I spent on this one when I cashed in my retirement account to pay for my mother"s medical expenses when she was diagnosed with cancer was one of the few luxury items and something that was meant to make her happier. I believe I am entitled to expect value for that money and I want Westinghouse to own their own shoddy work in the name of greed and stand by the product they sold to unsuspecting consumers for the last couple of years.
I don"t believe that is too much to ask. They were paid their asking price (via Sam"s Club) and now I want a quality widescreen HDTV that will last for a few more years of use while I"m in nursing school. I am out the money spent on the unit and now get to continue paying for cable service that is going unused, only adding more insult to injury. I"ve sent an e-mail to Westinghouse, but have no expectation of return contact after learning of other consumer"s plights.Read full review
I purchased this TV about 15 months ago. I had the same problem, it just went black screen and no picture, but did have sound. I am so tired of buying stuff from Walmart that quits working right after the Walmart warranty expires! I am not buying another thing from them, and shame on Westinghouse! Nothing again from them! Now I am going to go watch my 15-year-old Sony still in perfect working condition. Forget buying anything new, it always breaks. What"s going on in this world?
I have a 32" Westinghouse flat screen TV that stopped producing a clear screen within the first year of owning it. The screen will often go black or it has streaks of multiple colors. I have sound but no picture. After reading all the complaints regarding the same issue I am in disbelief. This was a $600 TV that is of no use within a year! The company does everything in its power to not do anything about the situation.
A class action law suit is necessary! Consumers are spending hard earned money for a product that doesn"t last more than 2 years from what I"m reading here. Westinghouse is not standing by its product and is offering nothing more than a replacement TV when it"s obvious that the TVs are not made with any quality. I will never buy anything Westinghouse and will be sure to spread the news of how poor of a product they make. No picture. Out of $600.Read full review
In May of 2006, I purchased a Westinghouse 32" LCD TV. It has worked great for years. Suddenly the picture would just go black with no sound. The blue light would stay on and would occasionally turn orange. We have to turn on and off repeatedly in order to get it to turn back on. Sometimes this will only allow the TV to work for a couple of minutes before it happens again. I called Westinghouse and was told to plug the TV into a different outlet. It worked and I thought we may have corrected the problem, but it did the same thing after about 15 minutes. Does anyone know if it"s worth taking to a repair shop? I think that I spent about $900 on it at the time. Unfortunately, I purchased another one about six months later so I suspect we"ll have two bad TVs shortly.
I purchased 2 19-inch Westinghouse flat screens from Best Buy. One year later within 2 weeks of each other, both TVs just stopped working and never worked again. They won"t even turn on, dead nothing. That’s ridiculous at 300.00 dollars apiece. One was used a little and the other one we just removed from the box 2 weeks prior.
I purchase a Westinghouse 32in. LCD HDTV around two years ago. I had the same problem. I turned on the TV and the picture came on for a split second and then blank. It still had sound, but no picture. It did the same thing over and over. I couldn"t find the receipt or extended warranty on it so my only choice was to purchase another TV. You can bet it wasn"t Westinghouse **. It sounds like from all the posts that they don"t give a hoot about quality products. I see Walmart doesn"t carry Westinghouse junk anymore. Good for Walmart!
This is not the Westinghouse we Americans know. Westinghouse Digital Electronics LLC is a private company that makes LCD TVs using the Westinghouse name to market shoddy Chinese products. Westinghouse sold its brand names to several companies years ago.
Westinghouse Digital has only been in business since 2003 and the CEO is Richard Houng, the President is Douglas Woo and the Chief Technology Officer is Darwin Chang. Don"t let the western first names fool you. All Chinese use a western first name in addition to their Chinese name.
These are typical Chinese commercial con-artists, most probably Taiwanese, taking advantage of Americans! They are not listed on any stock exchange so you can"t get to them through their shareholders. You can get to them by cutting off their customers; Amazon.com, Best Buy, BJs, Costco & Target. Apparently, Wal-Mart has discontinued them as a supplier as all of the customer"s should so Westinghouse Digital goes out of business. Inform the retailer where you bought the TV that you will never shop with them again if they continue to carry Westinghouse Digital products.Read full review
32-inch flat screen TV purchased about 2 years ago started to smell of an electrical fire from the back side of the TV. I took it to Sam"s Club and they said that there was nothing they could do about it. Westinghouse didn’t know what to do about it either. I will never purchase from either place ever again. Home smelled of an electrical fire for weeks.
I purchased a Westinghouse LCD TV model # SK-19H2105 on June 2008, from Sam"s Club. In August 2010, I experienced intermittent screen black-outs and in less than a week, I had no picture, no sound, no power, nothing.
Of course, when I called Sam"s Club, I was reminded of the one year Limited Warranty, which had expired. The sales assistant apologized but said their was nothing he could do, which I understood. He went on to say Westinghouse was not a good brand. I wonder why they (Sam"s Club) would carry/promote a worthless brand. I didn"t give up. I took my TV to Sears Repair Center for an estimate and paid a non-refundable $29.99 diagnostic fee. I was told the power panel was no good and the cost to replace would be $300.
Thanks, but no thanks. The cost to repair was more than my purchase price. My contact with Westinghouse was ineffective. Although, I"m not in a position to buy another LCD TV at this time. I promise to spread the word about Westinghouse-Poor Quality!Read full review
I purchased a Westinghouse flat screen from Best Buy in 2008. Last week, everything on the picture that was white turned to blue color. Today the sound went out and was replaced by an ear breaking screech! What a waste of money!
Westinghouse Model SK-26H590D Widescreen DVD Combo purchased from Target on 5/3/08 now freezes up. TV and DVD player are working, but sometimes it freezes up and you cannot change the channel or turn it on or off either by using the remote or the buttons on the side of the TV. We have to turn it off on the power strip, wait a few minutes and start over.
I purchased a Westinghouse 32" flat screen TV from Walmart on 02/23/08 (Model # SK-32H240S); it wasn"t working properly within the first 30 days so I returned it to Walmart & bought the same TV again on 03/02/08. This wasn"t a TV that was watched all the time. It was in a bedroom & was only used at night.
I noticed on a few occasions that I had picture & no sound. I would shut the TV off & the next day it would be fine. About 6-8 months ago, I had sound & no picture, so I unplugged it for a day but still it didn"t work. I contacted Westinghouse which was worthless & so the TV just sat there.
I found someone to work on the television & I dropped it off the next day. He called 3 days later & said that it was the panel (which wasn"t worth putting that kind of money into it) & gave me this web site.
Furious, I phoned Westinghouse again & explained the situation & asked with 14 pages of complaints all about the same thing, how could this TV not be recalled. Then they offered to send me a new TV for $250.00, with me being responsible for shipping the old one from PA to CA, (mind you it is a refurbished one).
Being a single mom of 3 children I couldn"t let this go, so I phoned Walmart to make them aware of how Westinghouse treats their customers & they said to let everyone know that if you purchased your TV from Walmart that you should phone 1-800-walmart & make an official complaint.
I did, (about a 1/2 hour ago) & they said someone will be contacting me. I didn"t make the complaint about Walmart but I did complain that they were buying products from Westinghouse & that Westinghouse wasn"t honoring their warranties. The sales associate I spoke with said also you have to watch because they design new TVs & instead of putting Westinghouse on them, they use a different name. I will never purchase another product from Westinghouse. Getting an attorney isn"t a bad idea.Read full review
I have a 37" HD Video Monitor model LVM 37w1 Monitor/picture "pops" and goes black, but the sound remains on. Westinghouse used to be a reliable brand. What a disappointment this has been. This was not worth the money we paid for, and essentially we lost the value our investment.
I have a Westinghouse TV for about a year and 8 months and the power light is on but no picture or light in the screen. What kind of crappy TV is this!
My brand-new, one-year-old Westinghouse flat panel LCD HD TV went black and when I called, service representative said there is nothing they can do and they can"t fix it. They said they would sell me a new upgraded version for $250. I have never had a TV break in one year! Very poor customer service.
I have a 2-year old Westinghouse TV model SK32H540S and the same issue of the 2 second picture then pitch black screen just happened to me. As I can see this is a recurrent problem so I guess I"ll have to try my luck tomorrow and contact customer service. But as many of you have reported Westinghouse has been refusing to own up to their product so I"m not looking forward to having a good customer service experience. We"ll see.
Same issue as the rest of the consumers, terrible picture, TV turns on and off. Now it won"t even turn on, absolutely ridiculous. I purchased the TV thinking that it will last a long time, it was a bad Best Buy, cannot help and Westinghouse does not own up to the problem. I"m obviously not the only one. My money went to waste, no quality and no one is taking responsibility. I want Westinghouse to fix the problem not try to sell me another TV. Replace or repair, I don"t see why its so complicated.
I"ve had the same problem with the 32". Screen went blank and black after 1 1/2 hours. Tech Support told me I should get a quote from a repair man. If it was higher than $250, I should call them back and get a replacement TV from them. This should be a re-called item in my opinion. $600.00 TV for 1 1/2 year of use.
I have one of the Westinghouse HD televisions that many people on your site are complaining about. I am having the same issue: turns on, flash of light, then the screen is black and I only have sound. This is the replacement TV because the first one did the same thing after only a couple of weeks.
We purchased a Westinghouse, SK-26H520S, wide-screen 26 inch LCD TV, two years ago. The blue power light is blinking below the screen, but no sound or picture. We have checked all connections and even unplugged the TV for one hour, to no avail. The batteries in the remote are new also. We cannot get a response from Westinghouse and Sam"s Club said this is warranty work for Westinghouse. From all of the "help sites" that I have seen on the internet, this is a known problem with this television and the manufacturer is aware of it and chooses not to fix it or help their customers with this problem.
I purchased a Westinghouse TV Model # SK-26H240S less than two yrs ago and the TV keeps going black every 40 minutes or so. Seems the internal fan may have gone bad and the TV is over heating. Calls to Westinghouse Customer Service is a waste of time. They will not own up to anything or offer to help unless your will to buy a new one. I don"t need help buying a new TV but I will never buy a Westinghouse. My two boys are very disappointed.
My Westinghouse television (model # SK32H240F), which was purchased at Best Buy in March 2008, went out the other day. The picture went blank and we could hear the television but could not see a picture. I contacted Best Buy and they stated that it was Westinghouse’s responsibility. I contacted Westinghouse and they did not want to own up to the television defect, which apparently everyone is having.
The customer service tech told my wife that they can give her a replacement television for $250. If there is no defect on these televisions, then why are they offering a replacement television? My wife ask to speak to a live supervisor, but the tech stated: "There is nothing but techs on the floor and there is no supervisor on the floor." The turn around time for a supervisor is 48 hours. Wow! A replacement T.V. for $250 is a lot of money. My complaint is simple, Westinghouse is not standing by their product. $250 is a lot of money for a T.V. that I just bought 2 years ago. We simply do not have that kind of money.Read full review
I had a LCD TV that was in warranty. Westinghouse tried everything in their power to avoid sending me a return authorization. After faxing them the receipt and emailing it to them, they kept saying it hadn"t been received until I faxed every 20 minutes the receipt with a note that said, "I will continue until you recognize this has been received." Immediately a supervisor calls me with a return authorization.
I purchased the Westinghouse sk-32h240s with anticipation of having years to enjoy my new television. Shortly after purchasing the television, it malfunctioned. It will not show a picture at all or make sound. I initially was told lightning struck it. After reading consumer complaints about the exact same model, I know there is definitely a defect with the television from the manufacturer.
I purchased my Westinghouse Flat Screen TV from Wal-Mart about 2.5 years ago. I turned it on today to watch the football game and get nothing but a 2 second picture and sound. Sign me up for the lawsuit! The TV was around $450.00 when I bought it.
I have bought 4 TVs from Costco model (SK #32H640G) for my business and after a year, two of my TVs stopped working. The power goes off after a while and will not turn on. I have taken it back to Costco and they had told me to contact Westinghouse for repair. I have called them and they have told me to provide proof of purchase and I did. Now, I am getting a run-around telling me that they will get back to me sometime later. I have not received any reply as to what will happen. It is very frustrating to not know the outcome. Please help. What should I do? I will never buy a Westinghouse product ever again. I will get Samsung next time.
I purchased a Westing House flat panel TV Dec 2008, and on July 29, 2010, the TV would not turn off. We thought the remote was broken, so we unplugged the TV. Next day the TV would not turn on at all and has never worked again. I have sent email to Westinghouse, but I have gotten no response.
I purchased a Westinghouse 26" HDTV 1080 SK-26H730S from Costco on March 8, 2009, still under warranty. A few months ago my TV started powering off. I called Costco and they routed my calls to Westinghouse in CA. "Simon #4039" promised an email of FedEx return shipment label. I never received it! I keep getting runaround & excuses when I contact them. I checked this website & found dozens of dissatisfied consumers with the same complaints that I have. WE all need help, please!
We carry high-quality TV parts for many Westinghouse TV models and common Westinghouse TV repairs. When searching for the correct TV part to fix your Westinghouse TV, we always recommend searching by the exact part number located on the part you want to replace or repair in your TV. If you want to start your search by TV model, you can find your TV"s model number on the back of your TV, in its manual, or through its menu/settings.
TV repair costs between $60 and $350 with most spending $207 on average for LCD, LED, plasma, and 4K TVs; costs are higher if repairing older DLP, projection, and HD TVs. TV problems like display issues, powering-on problems, or sound issues can be fixed. Pickup and delivery fees may apply.
For example, the price of a new Samsung 40-inch LED TV is about $400, yet the cost of a replacement display panel for this model is about $380. This price is only for the replacement part and does not cover diagnostic costs, labor costs, or travel or shipping fees.
Unless you are trying to fix a TV from the ’80s or earlier, cracked TV screen repair is not feasible; the entire display panel must be replaced instead. The cost of a replacement TV display panel is more than the cost of buying a new TV, and that’s before labor and other service costs.
The cost of TV screen replacement is generally the same as or more than the cost of buying a new TV. Therefore, replacing a broken or malfunctioning TV screen is not considered a viable option. If the TV is under the manufacturer’s warranty, the manufacturer may replace the entire unit.
TV manufacturers do keep replacement TV screen panels on hand to support products under warranty in case the screen malfunctions, due to manufacturer defect.
If you still want to replace a damaged or malfunctioning TV screen, your best option is to find a used replacement panel or a broken TV of the same model on which the screen is still functional. You might find one on eBay, and you can hire a technician to change out the panel.
The cost of a used replacement TV panel ranges from $50 to $350 or more, excluding shipping, depending on the brand and size. Note that the chances of finding exactly the part you need in excellent condition are slim, and the cost excludes the cost of installation by a repair shop.
Whether your TV is LCD, LED, plasma screen, or 4K (Ultra HD), the cost to fix common problems ranges from $60 to $350, depending on the repair type and the brand of TV being repaired.
TV motherboard replacement costs between $200 and $350, including parts and labor, or about $275 on average. Motherboard replacement parts range from $35 to $199and labor costs from $60 to $125.
When an inverter component goes bad, it is usually replaced rather than repaired. In some cases, the capacitors on a converter board fail, and a technician can fix it by replacing the capacitors rather than replacing the entire inverter component. However, if an entire inverter board replacement is not available for the model of TV being repaired, replacing the capacitors may be the only option for TV inverter repair.
A flat-screen TV bulb replacement costs between $60 to $115, with most homeowners spending $84 for parts and labor. The price for replacement bulbs ranges from $18.50 to $80.
If an older model LCD TV or projection TV powers on and has sound but no picture, this may be due to lamp burnout, which is both common and expected. In this case, replacing the bulb will fix the problem. An experienced technician should be able to replace the bulb quickly and easily.
TV backlight repair costs $100 to $122, including replacement parts and labor, at a repair shop. In-house repair costs are more due to trip fees. The price of backlight replacement parts averages around $2.50for each LED and between $20 and $25 for each CCFL strip.
Repairing a TV power supply board costs $23 to $234 for parts alone. Completely replacing the power supply board costs $250 for parts and labor. If one capacitor has failed, the cost for replacement capacitors is low. However, it’s more cost-effective for the technician to replace the entire board rather than spend time trying to diagnose and replace faulty capacitors one by one.
TV capacitor repair costs $60 to $129, including parts and labor. The cost for the replacement part ranges from $0.06 to $14, with the labor portion ranging from $60 to $125 per hour. TV capacitors protect the circuit from getting too much power, filter signals, and facilitate changing channels.
Flat screen replacement glass is not available. The only option for flat-screen TV glass repair is to try optical glass glue, which costs $1.70 for a 5-ml. tube. This may be an option for TV glass repair if the crack is only a few inches or less. TV panels are built as one unit at the factory, with the glass adhered to the display panel.
A TV fuse repair costs between $61 and $136, with most spending $99 on average. The cost of the replacement fuse itself is $1.50 to $11, while labor ranges from $60 to $125 per hour. Additional fees may apply.
LCD flat-panel repair is not considered cost-effective. If the glass is cracked or the display is physically damaged, it is cheaper to replace the entire TV than to repair or replace the display panel.
More popular TVs are usually less expensive to repair because repair shops order replacement parts for them in bulk, which allows them to buy those parts at a lower cost.
The cost of flat-screen TV repair ranges from $42 to $359. You cannot fix a broken screen, but the price of a new flat-panel TV starts from around $249 for a 1080-mp (non-4K) LED TV from LG to as much as $14,999 for an 85-inch 8K LED TV from Samsung. A TV referred to as a “flat TV” or “flat-screen” TV might be any of the following:
LCD TV repair typically costs $60 to $85 for diagnostics testing, and $200 to $300 to perform repairs. LCD TVs use backlighting, which may fail. Newer LCD TVs use LED strips for backlighting. Older ones might use CCFL. If CCFL backlighting fails, a technician can replace it with LED backlighting.
An LED TV is just an LCD TV that uses LED backlighting, which all newer models do (older models use CCFL backlighting). The cost to replace one LED backlighting strip ranges from $100 to $122, including parts and labor.
With modern TVs, repair entails component replacement or replacement of capacitors, for which high levels of certification are not necessary. Generally, TV repair shops will let you know if their employees have certification.
First, check that the connecting cable is securely in the socket on both ends. If that doesn’t work, try substituting another data cable if you have one, or test it with a replacement cable.
Circuit breaker - Check the circuit breaker for the power outlet that the TV plugs into. You can check the breakers by opening the door to your breaker panel and looking for circuit breakers that are in the OFF position.
Power cable - Check the power cable. If it is a removable cable, you can test it by substituting a power cable from another piece of equipment in your home, or you can buy a replacement cable for this test. The cost for a replacement TV power cable ranges from $2.50 to $10.
Lamp burnout -In a projection TV or older LCD TV, no picture may be caused by lamp burnout. In this case, a technician can replace the bulb quickly and easily.
The right parts - It can be complicated to determine which component of a TV is failing and causing the TV not to work correctly. If you buy a replacement part and perform the repair yourself, the TV may still not work, either because you replaced the wrong part, the part was old and not working properly to begin with, or you did not perform the work correctly. Buying multiple replacement parts can become costly.
In most cases, a flat-screen TV can be fixed. The exception is a physically damaged display panel or screen. Most other issues including failing speakers, backlights, or power supply. Burned out fuses and damaged input ports can also be repaired.
