waterproof lcd arduino factory
I am making a small device that would be fitted on motorcycles. The device"s case will be a 3D printed case which houses a 2.2 inch SPI TFT display and a ESP32 module. I wanted to make the display waterproof so that it will keep working even in slight rain. I would be waterproofing ESP32 with sealing gel or epoxy. I just want a solution for the LCD display.
Look at your LCD display and tell me which side is waterproof. The front side. So, if your LCD is inside the box with only the glass front exposed, how is that NOT water proofed? Perhaps you need a rubber gasket between the glass front and your box.
You could do capacitive buttons, but a large amount of water on the face can cause problems. The advantage is that these too could be mounted to the back of a clear cover just like the LCD, so you"d need to make exactly 0 openings in the face of the enclosure.
Additionally, the polarizers used on the outside of the LCD and OLED are susceptible to absorbing water. For instance, if a drop of water is left on the display, it can turn the polarizer cloudy where the water is absorbed.
To ensure that the display can be safely submerged in liquid, you need to waterproof all of the electronics — including the display — inside a case. This is not a simple task, especially if there are keypads or connectors in the design.
Here are examples of mods created by our customers to create water-resistant (metal) and waterproof (plastic) cases for Crystalfontz 633 keypad LCD modules.

This is another great I2C 16x2 LCD display compatible with Gadgeteer modules from DFRobot. With limited pin resources, your project will quicly run out of resources using normal LCDs. With this I2C interface LCD module, you only need 2 lines (I2C)to display the information. If you already have I2C devices in your project, this LCD module actually cost no more resources at all. The adress can be set from 0x20-0x27. Fantastic for Arduino or gadgeteer based projects.
The sensor comes usually in two form factors. One that comes in TO-92 package looks exactly like an ordinary transistor. Other one in a waterproof probe style which can be more useful when you need to measure something far away, underwater or under the ground.
If you are using the waterproof version of the DS18B20, connect Red stripe to 5V, Black connects to ground and Yellow Stripe is data that goes to digital pin 2 on arduino. You still need to connect a 4.7K pullup resistor from data to 5V.
M5Stack has launched several ESP32 IoT controllers with an integrated touch display such as the M5Stack Core2, the M5Paper, etc. Today, a new Core family member was presented: the M5Stack TOUGH. This device is rugged and dustproof/waterproof with a UV-resistant enclosure sealed with an o-ring and offers waterproof M12 connectors. M5Stack TOUGH is now available for purchase for $49.90 on the company’s store (check out the link below).
The board can be, as usual, programmed using the ESP-IDF framework, the Arduino IDE, or UIFlow visual programming IDE. The M5Stack TOUGH kit comes with a one-meter USB cable for power, an Allen key, the waterproof weather ring, and other connecting wires. The core module seems to be like the M5Stack Core2. Thus, the MicroPython version that I extended for the Core2 should work with this M5Stack too.
In this project, we will learn how to design Digital Thermometer Using Arduino & DS18B20 Temperature Sensor. Simply we will interface Arduino with DS18B20 Digital Waterproof Temperature Sensor and display the temperature values in degree celsius.
This is a pre-wired and waterproofed version of the DS18B20 sensor. Handy for when you need to measure something far away, or in wet conditions. The Sensor can measure the temperature between -55 to 125°C (-67°F to +257°F). The cable is jacketed in PVC.
