Touch screen technology has been with us since the early 1970s and have become increasingly popular in recent years with the advent of mobile phones and pocket computer systems.

Touchscreens are now everywhere with ATMs, ticket machines and information points utilizing them. They are a key asset in industrial computing too as touch screen monitors offer certain advantages over conventional computer screens.

The most obvious advantage of touchscreen monitors is that they act as both an input and output device. Using a graphical user interface (GUI) there is no need for a separate monitor, keyboard and mouse as the touch screen monitor acts as all three.

In industrial applications, touch screen monitors also have the advantage of being more robust than a conventional CRT (cathode ray tube) or LCD monitor. Touchscreens are often built with durability in mind and many are resistant to industrial contaminants such as water, dirt, oil and grease.

Many touchscreen monitors boast IP65 and NEMA 4 ratings allowing the monitors to be washed-down and protected against, electrical surges, physical impact, temperature extremes, theft, tampering and airborne debris.

Touchscreen monitors can also reduce the size of a computer system, without separate peripherals and all those wires, they can also be mounted on walls or on the back of machines.

They can also be house in industrial computer enclosures – these afford added protection from spillages, knocks, bangs and even explosive atmospheres. Many touchscreen devices are used where standard computer equipment is just not practical such as when a machine is positioned outside or left unattended.

There are different technologies behind touch screen monitors such as resistive touchscreens, capacitive systems, infrared and surface acoustic wave technology. The types of touchscreen

Differ in their efficiency at reading a touch and the clarity of the monitor. Some of the systems are also more susceptible to scratches and contaminants.

In selecting a touchscreen the most important things to remember is where the screen will be placed, what applications it will be used for, how durable does it need to be and how clear or bright does the monitor have to be.

The touchscreen also known as a touch panel or touch monitor are devices that help the computer user to give command using direct touch. Touchscreen monitors are part of most of today’s modern computing devices. They are usually made up of sensors, controllers,s and software that are used to coordinate and detect when the panel has been touched and interpret it appropriately.

The main types of touchscreen monitors are resistive, capacitive, surface acoustic wave, and infrared imaging. These touch panels are used in many areas such as smartphones, laptops, car radios, ATMs, and system control panels, among many other places. Their main benefits are that they make user interaction more user-friendly and eliminate the need for a physical keyboard and mouse.

Touchscreen monitor technologies come in different forms but all are used to achieve the same objective of giving a user a simple way to interact with the device. For other types of computer monitors, you can read a comprehensive article here. Below we discuss some of the most common touch panel technologies that are in use today.

These are the most basic types of panels and they use pressure on the surface to detect the touch point. They are made up of 2 thin metallic layers and a gap in between. When the user press the layer makes contact which creates electrical flow hence the point is detected. They can be touched by any object that can exact pressure on the surface.

They are the cheapest technology to develop and they also consume less power compared to others. However, they have low image clarity and are more susceptible to scratching compared to other technologies. Resistive touch panels don’t support multi-touch

The panel is made up of an electrode layer. When the user touches a specific point it reacts to the electrical static charge where some charge moves to the finger. This decrease in capacitive at that point and it detected as a touch.

These screens can only be used by human touch or a stylus pen with an electrical charge. They have better image clarity than resistive are more durable and offer high scratch resistance than resistive screens.

There are 2 types of capacitive panels, surface capacitive and projected capacitive. Their operation is almost the same but the projected capacitive can be touched even when the user is wearing thin gloves and they support multi-touch.

The screen creates an ultrasonic wave which when disrupted is sensed as a touch. The panel is made of a piezoelectric transducer which when touched creates a wave disruption. They are water and scratch resistance and have excellent image clarity. The touch can be done by finger, stylus, or even with gloved hands.

These touchscreens are made up of infrared emitter and receivers which create a grid of invisible light under the panel. When the user touches the panel they interrupt the light beam which is recorded as a touch by sensors. They use only one screen and not an overlap of two which makes the image clarity the best among all the touchscreen technologies.

The multi-touch screen enables zoom and drags among others. Screens that support multiple touch positions simultaneously can be used to zoom or drag and drop them from one location to another.

They are simple to learn how to use. Most users of the touchscreen are self-learning. This is because the screen is simple to use for all levels of users.

Touchscreen combines the functionality of a mouse, keyboard, and monitor into one. This makes it easy to access the 3 device functionality at one point.

When using a wireless mouse and keyboard user can operate the device from a distance while with touch you need to be close enough to reach the screen to give commands.

Touchscreens that many users use may become unhygienic specifically during this time of COVID-19, examples of biometric user authentication systems that use touchscreens and interfaces.

These are types of radios that are mostly used in modern cars. They still use the above types of touchscreen technologies to allow users to interface with the device. Most comes with both buttons and touchscreen capabilities. They have FM radio and other frequencies available. Other than just being a radio they are also used for other functions.

These are the primary type of devices that uses a touchscreen as the main human interface. Today all modern smartphone uses one or another kind of touch-sensitive screen.

Apple desktop computers are the main user of touch screens. However other laptop manufacturers such as Chromebook are designing new devices that have touchscreen monitors.

When you visit a restaurant the waiter may use the touch display to enter your request and print a receipt. Some restaurants have even gone a step further and included an ordering system at each table where customers can do self-ordering.

In the industry setup control panels can have a touchscreen to monitor and control the system. They can be used to control both electrical and mechanical systems.

When deciding on new interface technology, whether it is for professional or personal use, the touch screen component has become a popular option to consider. With a hard durable surface, with a thin plastic screen shield, touch-screen devices are less prone to screen damage than devices with keypads. Moreover, the resilient and easy-to-use nature of touch-screen devices make them suitable for users of all ages and skill levels.

The process of using a touch screen monitor allows for the absence of the traditional computer mouse and keyboard. Without them, the touch screen functions and programs are directly accessible by touching areas of the screen. The absence of a mouse and keyboard also allows for easier transport and relocation of the device.

Having a more direct and natural interaction with electronic devices is an appeal of this technology. Lacking the multiple devices needed to communicate with traditional computers, touch screen technology creates a simpler and more intuitive interaction.

Standard computer systems that require a mouse and keyboard for operation take up more space than touch screen devices. Touch screen devices thus can be used with greater ease in areas where a user does not have a lot of room to place a computer system.

The devices with keypads are susceptible to damage. For instance, a keyboard or a keypad has separate keys and related circuits, any of which can break or become inoperable due to dirt, crumbs, water damage, etc. In contrast, touch screens can be protected more easily because they do not have as many parts. This means that touch screens have the potential to have a longer product life than standard monitors and computer systems.

The fact that icons can be used with touch screens greatly increases the speed at which the user can manipulate the system applications. It takes far less time for the brain to process an image than it does to read an entire sentence of text, so users can go through the application processes in a matter of seconds and be on their way faster. Speed also is increased because users don’t have to type out a response.

Touch screens have the potential to be more comfortable for the user. Impaired individuals can use touch-screen technology, especially those who find using a mouse or keyboard difficult. For example, touch screens often organize information in a clear and simplified way, so visually-impaired individuals can operate them. Similarly, disabled patrons who have difficulty speaking or standing in long lines can take advantage of touch-screen technology to access information easily and at their own pace. In addition, touch-screen interfaces are often so easy to use that even people with little or no experience using computers can operate one with minimal or no supervision. They also can be more accessible for those with poor eyesight because icons sometimes can be easier to distinguish than text.

One of the major benefits of touch screens is the overall ease of use. Since the act of touching is instinctive, touch-screen devices are relatively simple to operate. A clearly defined set of menus is easy to navigate through when all the user has to do is touch the desired option. The user-friendly nature of the touch screen also helps save time.

Touch screen devices have smooth, flat screens, which makes cleaning a much easier task. Devices which do not require a keyboard tend to collect less dust. The function of the computer mouse is eliminated as well–a device with many crevices that are hard to clean. The wireless nature of the touch screen also eliminates the mess of tangled power cords behind the desk.

Several businesses use touch-screen technology to accelerate their speed of service, allowing customers to serve themselves at touch-screen kiosks. Customers use these self-serve kiosks for simple services, such as purchasing movie tickets, paying bills or accessing account information quickly. As a result, businesses can offer shorter lines and reduced wait times for other customers, while reducing the need to hire, train and pay employees.

Touch Screens are a type of display screen that has a touch-sensitive transparent panel covering the screen. Instead of using a pointing device such as a mouse or light pen, you can use your finger to point directly to objects on the screen. Although touch screens provide a natural interface for computer novices, they are unsatisfactory for most applications because the finger is such a relatively large object. It is impossible to point accurately to small areas of the screen. In addition, most users find touch screens tiring to the arms after long use.

Touch-screens are typically found on larger displays, in phones with integrated PDA features. Most are designed to work with either your finger or a special stylus. Tapping a specific point on the display will activate the virtual button or feature displayed at that location on the display. Some phones with this feature can also recognize handwriting written on the screen using a stylus, as a way to quickly input lengthy or complex information

A touchscreen is an input device that allows users to operate a PC by simply touching the display screen. Touch input is suitable for a wide variety of computing applications. A touchscreen can be used with most PC systems as easily as other input devices such as track balls or touch pads. Browse the links below to learn more about touch input technology and how it can work for you.

A touch screen is a special type of visual display unit with a screen which is sensitive to pressure or touching. The screen can detect the position of the point of touch. The design of touch screens is best for inputting simple choices and the choices are programmable. The device is very user-friendly since it "talks" with the user when the user is picking up choices on the screen.

Touch technology turns a CRT, flat panel display or flat surface into a dynamic data entry device that replaces both the keyboard and mouse. In addition to eliminating these separate data entry devices, touch offers an "intuitive" interface. In public kiosks, for example, users receive no more instruction than "touch your selection.

Specific areas of the screen are defined as "buttons" that the operator selects simply by touching them. One significant advantage to touch screen applications is that each screen can be customized to reflect only the valid options for each phase of an operation, greatly reducing the frustration of hunting for the right key or function.

Pen-based systems, such as the Palm Pilot® and signature capture systems, also use touch technology but are not included in this article. The essential difference is that the pressure levels are set higher for pen-based systems than for touch.Touch screens come in a wide range of options, from full color VGA and SVGA monitors designed for highly graphic Windows® or Macintosh® applications to small monochrome displays designed for keypad replacement and enhancement. Specific figures on the growth of touch screen technology are hard to come by, but a 1995 study last year by Venture Development Corporation predicted overall growth of 17%, with at least 10% in the industrial sector.Other vendors agree that touch screen technology is becoming more popular because of its ease-of-use, proven reliability, expanded functionality, and decreasing cost.

A basic touchscreen has three main components: a touch sensor, a controller, and a software driver. The touchscreen is an input device, so it needs to be combined with a display and a PC or other device to make a complete touch input system.

A touch screen sensor is a clear glass panel with a touch responsive surface. The touch sensor/panel is placed over a display screen so that the responsive area of the panel covers the viewable area of the video screen. There are several different touch sensor technologies on the market today, each using a different method to detect touch input. The sensor generally has an electrical current or signal going through it and touching the screen causes a voltage or signal change. This voltage change is used to determine the location of the touch to the screen.

The controller is a small PC card that connects between the touch sensor and the PC. It takes information from the touch sensor and translates it into information that PC can understand. The controller is usually installed inside the monitor for integrated monitors or it is housed in a plastic case for external touch add-ons/overlays. The controller determines what type of interface/connection you will need on the PC. Integrated touch monitors will have an extra cable connection on the back for the touchscreen. Controllers are available that can connect to a Serial/COM port (PC) or to a USB port (PC or Macintosh). Specialized controllers are also available that work with DVD players and other devices.

The driver is a software update for the PC system that allows the touchscreen and computer to work together. It tells the computer"s operating system how to interpret the touch event information that is sent from the controller. Most touch screen drivers today are a mouse-emulation type driver. This makes touching the screen the same as clicking your mouse at the same location on the screen. This allows the touchscreen to work with existing software and allows new applications to be developed without the need for touchscreen specific programming. Some equipment such as thin client terminals, DVD players, and specialized computer systems either do not use software drivers or they have their own built-in touch screen driver.

Touchscreen add-ons are touchscreen panels that hang over an existing computer monitor. Integrated touchscreen monitors are computer displays that have the touchscreen built-in. Both product types work in the same way, basically as an input device like a mouse or trackpad.

The touch screen is one of the easiest PC interfaces to use, making it the interface of choice for a wide variety of applications. Here are a few examples of how touch input systems are being used today:

Information kiosks, tourism displays, trade show displays, and other electronic displays are used by many people that have little or no computing experience. The user-friendly touch screen interface can be less intimidating and easier to use than other input devices, especially for novice users. A touchscreen can help make your information more easily accessible by allowing users to navigate your presenttion by simply touching the display screen.

Time is money, especially in a fast paced retail or restaurant environment. Touchscreen systems are easy to use so employees can get work done faster, and training time can be reduced for new employees. And because input is done right on the screen, valuable counter space can be saved. Touchscreens can be used in cash registers, order entry stations, seating and reservation systems, and more.

In today"s fast pace world, waiting in line is one of the things that has yet to speed up. Self-service touch screen terminals can be used to improve customer service at busy stores, fast service restaurants, transportation hubs, and more. Customers can quickly place their own orders or check themselves in or out, saving them time, and decreasing wait times for other customers. Automated bank teller (ATM) and airline e-ticket terminals are examples of self-service stations that can benefit from touchscreen input.

The touch screen interface is useful in systems ranging from industrial process control to home automation. By integrating the input device with the display, valuable workspace can be saved. And with a graphical interface, operators can monitor and control complex operations in real-time by simply touching the screen.

Because the touch screen interface is more user-friendly than other input devices, overall training time for computer novices, and therefore training expense, can be reduced. It can also help to make learning more fun and interactive, which can lead to a more beneficial training experience for both students and educators.

The touch screen interface can be beneficial to those that have difficulty using other input devices such as a mouse or keyboard. When used in conjunction with software such as on-screen keyboards, or other assistive technology, they can help make computing resources more available to people that have difficulty using computers.

Take a look at how one of our customers, CHI Centers, Inc., has developed a system that allows non-verbal individuals to communicate using a PC and touchscreen display: http://www.chicenters.org/patty.html

The touch screen interface is being used in a wide variety of applications to improve human-computer interaction. Other applications include digital jukeboxes, computerized gaming, student registration systems, multimedia software, financial and scientific applications, and more

Public computer systems are often designed around a touch screen, which is often the only visible component. Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) are the most common application, but falling prices for touch screen technology are making it available for other applications such as museum exhibits, ticket sales in airports and movie theaters, and public information kiosks. Touch screens are ideal for these applications because they provide input and output capabilities. They are often the only part of the system contacted by the user and are sturdier than many other input devices because they have no moving parts. These qualities make touch screen-based systems easy and inexpensive to maintain and repair.

Touch screens are used, like mice, as pointing devices. Instead of moving a mouse to activate and relocate the cursor, the user touches the screen to position the cursor. For specifying precise location, a touch screen often works with a stylus—a device like a pencil that has a rubber or plastic point. The user modifies what is seen on the screen by touching it, rather than by manipulating a cursor or other on-screen component with a mouse, keyboard, or joystick. Touch screens are invaluable to artists who have been trained to use pencils, brushes, and other implements that effect change wherever they touch the canvas.

Touch screens have revolutionized personal digital assistants (PDAs). Older PDAs required the user to enter data using an extremely small keyboard. Modern PDAs consist almost entirely of a touch screen, which makes them substantially smaller and easier to use because the user can "write" information directly into the device.

In the late twentieth century, companies began to integrate touch screen technology with dry-erase boards (wall-mounted surfaces that allow the user to write with markers and erase the markings with a cloth). With these devices, whatever a user writes on the board can be simultaneously recorded and saved in a computer file.

Touch-screen technology has found use in devices ranging from cell phones to supermarket checkouts. While implementing a touch screen may involve additional expenses above other methods of input, it can offer some significant advantages. Before you implement touch screens in your business, consider the value they could bring to employees and customers alike.

Ease of Use One major advantage touch screens have over other input methods is ease of use. While the usual combination of keyboard and mouse is familiar to most users, the practice of reaching out and touching icons on a screen comes intuitively even to those without a computer background. A touch-screen interface can reduce training time for employees and empower customers to look up information or place orders themselves using self-service kiosks. Touch screens can also be a benefit to employees juggling multiple tasks, since an easy touch-screen interface requires less concentration to use than a mouse and keyboard.

Speed Touch screens also increase the speed of tasks. When a user picks up a computer mouse or touches a trackball, there is always a moment of uncertainty as he has to locate the pointer, adjust his movements to match mouse acceleration and so on. Touch screens allow users to select icons directly, without worrying about translating horizontal mouse movement to a vertical screen. A study by Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories indicated as much as a 20 percent reduction in response time for users of touch-screen systems versus a more traditional input method.

Device Size By combining the data entry method with the display, you reduce the overall size of the computer or device. This advantage is most obvious when it comes to portable devices, where smartphones and tablet PCs have long since eliminated attached, microscopic keyboards in favor of a fully touch-based interface. Even in the case of full-sized PCs, using a touch screen can allow you to set up systems in areas where space is at a premium and reduce the number of components exposed to the user.

Assistive Technology Touch screens are also valuable in accommodating users with physical issues that might make a traditional mouse and keyboard setup difficult to use. Users with arthritis, for instance, may have difficulty manipulating a mouse or typing on a standard keyboard, making traditional computing tasks difficult. Directly accessing icons on a screen, however, may be much easier for a user with physical challenges, especially when paired with a stylus or other pointing device to enhance the interface.

You interact with a touch screen monitor constantly throughout your daily life. You will see them in cell phones, ATM’s, kiosks, ticket vending machines, manufacturing plants and more. All of these use touch panels to enable the user to interact with a computer or device without the use of a keyboard or mouse. But did you know there are several uniquely different types of Touch Screens? The five most common types of touch screen are: 5-Wire Resistive, Surface Capacitive touch, Projected Capacitive (P-Cap), SAW (Surface Acoustic Wave), and IR (Infrared).

We are often asked “How does a touch screen monitor work?” A touch screen basically replaces the functionality of a keyboard and mouse. Below is a basic description of 5 types of touch screen monitor technology. The advantages and disadvantages of type of touch screen will help you decide which type touchscreen is most appropriate for your needs:

5-Wire Resistive Touch is the most widely touch technology in use today. A resistive touch screen monitor is composed of a glass panel and a film screen, each covered with a thin metallic layer, separated by a narrow gap. When a user touches the screen, the two metallic layers make contact, resulting in electrical flow. The point of contact is detected by this change in voltage.

Surface Capacitive touch screen is the second most popular type of touch screens on the market. In a surface capacitive touch screen monitor, a transparent electrode layer is placed on top of a glass panel. This is then covered by a protective cover. When an exposed finger touches the monitor screen, it reacts to the static electrical capacity of the human body. Some of the electrical charge transfers from the screen to the user. This decrease in capacitance is detected by sensors located at the four corners of the screen, allowing the controller to determine the touch point. Surface capacitive touch screens can only be activated by the touch of human skin or a stylus holding an electrical charge.

Projected Capacitive (P-Cap) is similar to Surface Capacitive, but it offers two primary advantages. First, in addition to a bare finger, it can also be activated with surgical gloves or thin cotton gloves. Secondly, P-Cap enables multi-touch activation (simultaneous input from two or more fingers). A projected capacitive touch screen is composed of a sheet of glass with embedded transparent electrode films and an IC chip. This creates a three dimensional electrostatic field. When a finger comes into contact with the screen, the ratios of the electrical currents change and the computer is able to detect the touch points. All our P-Cap touch screens feature a Zero-Bezel enclosure.

SAW (Surface Acoustic Wave) touch screen monitors utilize a series of piezoelectric transducers and receivers. These are positioned along the sides of the monitor’s glass plate to create an invisible grid of ultrasonic waves on the surface. When the panel is touched, a portion of the wave is absorbed. This allows the receiving transducer to locate the touch point and send this data to the computer. SAW monitors can be activated by a finger, gloved hand, or soft-tip stylus. SAW monitors offer easy use and high visibility.

IR (Infrared) type touch screen monitors do not overlay the display with an additional screen or screen sandwich. Instead, infrared monitors use IR emitters and receivers to create an invisible grid of light beams across the screen. This ensures the best possible image quality. When an object interrupts the invisible infrared light beam, the sensors are able to locate the touch point. The X and Y coordinates are then sent to the controller.

As a result, companies in most industries are searching for ways to retain and grow market share while staying profitable. With margins at the breaking point, companies are looking at alternatives. Technology and ingenuity are both necessary to navigate the changing industrial landscape. Touch screens are one of the technology tools that can help by increasing worker productivity, improving product quality, and making operations more efficient.

As industry becomes even more data driven, companies need to find ways to make data more accessible to workers in every area, including the plant floor. Touch screens are the ideal solution because they are inexpensive, easy to operate, rugged, and mobile. The large screen sizes available mean that a touch screen can display more information than traditional methods, such as bar code readers. The use of dashboards enables users to see process status at a glance without having to check a mechanical cockpit with multiple dials and gauges.

The data visualization makes it easy for people to see and act on exception information, even allowing for the diminished vision of older workers. Data visualization on industrial touch screens overcomes language barriers, skill sets, and environmental conditions such as low light.

Touch screens can be mounted directly on the equipment they are monitoring, in any nearby area, or even in another location altogether in the case of dangerous or unhealthy industrial environments, making them ideal for any industrial facility.

Touch screens are versatile as well. By selecting a resistive touch screen, users will be able to interact with the device using a stylus or while wearing gloves, which may be an important consideration in certain conditions. In low-light situations, you may prefer an infrared touch panel. If graphics are a top priority, a high-quality surface capacitive screen may be the best choice.

If the screen must be visible at a distance, the large sizes available in infrared screens may be very important. The lifecycle of the screen also varies by touch type, as does its resistance to environmental conditions such as grit, solvents, or water. You can find out more information about the characteristics of the various types of touch screens by reading our technical article, and of course, our engineering team will be happy to work with you to identify the best option for your situation.

Touch screens have so many applications in the industry that it’s hard to understand how companies functioned without them in the past. Here are a few examples:

CNC machine setup: Production lines and manufacturing equipment are often controlled by computers (CNC). Rather than use tooling or manual settings, these units use computer programs to define operating specifications. Using a touch screen to load the instructions speeds up changeovers and reduces downtime. A touch screen provides an easier interface than a traditional screen and often shields the user from the operating system complexities.

Production reporting: Industrial companies need to monitor production throughput on a regular basis to ensure they stay on schedule, but to date there hasn’t been an easy and accurate way to capture the required information. RFID sensors are expensive and unreliable. Bar codes are cumbersome and complex. Entering production status on a touch screen at the point of the operation is easy, fast and accurate. It transcends language barriers and is simpler than any other available method. The increased accuracy helps ensure efficient production scheduling and can help improve customer satisfaction by providing more accurate delivery information.

Recording quality results: When transcribing complex measurements or other quality standards, accuracy is paramount. Using a touchscreen helps improve accuracy because it is easier to enter information on the screen than on a keyboard, especially in low-light situations or while wearing gloves.

Mechanical controls: Industrial equipment often has several mechanical controls and switches, but many companies are replacing the complex array with a simple touch screen. This helps to eliminate operator errors, and the on-screen steps help walk workers through the process without the need for extensive training or process aids. In addition, the screens provide immediate feedback about process issues, and if the process changes, the change shows up right away on the screen.

There is little doubt that touch screens are changing the face of industry. In fact, IHS Research predicts that shipments of industrial touch panels and sensors will reach 2.5 billion by 2019, a compound annual growth rate of more than 4 percent. Touch screens are adaptable to almost any industrial environment, including wet, low light, dirty, or dangerous locations that require workers to wear protective gear such as gloves and goggles.

Using a touch screen interface enables vision-impaired or older workers to continue to perform effectively because screens are large, bright, easy to read, and they present data in a simple-to-use format. Workers who are comfortable in the digital world enjoy working with touch screens more than with paper reporting or mechanical controls, which makes touch screens the perfect medium to help companies retain older workers longer, helping to bridge the potential skills gap they might otherwise face.

Touch screens adapt easily to multiple languages, so workers can interact in their native language, increasing accuracy and compliance. This helps companies with a diverse or global workforce meet the needs of every worker.

With their easy-to-understand data visualization, touch screens help companies react quickly to potential production or quality problems. Workers can see immediately when a problem occurs and stop the line or take the appropriate corrective action. This helps ensure efficient production, reduces quality problems, increases throughput, and helps with job satisfaction because workers feel more empowered and knowledgeable.

Companies can monitor performance toward goals and ensure that quality and costs are on target, helping to ensure healthy margins and enabling them to compete better in global markets. Touch screens are an essential part of the industrial future. They provide important benefits to every industry. Touch screens increase efficiency, help ensure compliance, make it easier to monitor performance, adapt quickly to changes, are rugged and are versatile for a variety of conditions and use cases, are highly visible and cost-effective. Consider incorporating touch screens in your industrial processes so your company can begin enjoying these benefits.

One of the most obvious benefits of touch screen technology is its easy-to-use nature. You touch what you want to interact with, point where you want to go, and tap on what you want to open. In today’s age, where most users already interact with the touch screen in their pocket, using your solution will be intuitive, instinctive, fast and easy.

In addition to being simple and clear, touch screen technology can be engaging and interactive. It is far simpler to operate and far more intuitive and engaging than a traditional computer. In fact, they can be so engaging that many customers prefer using them to speaking to a staff member. Just watch customers lining up to use the touch screen ordering system at your local restaurant and preferring to interact with a touch screen than the staff member.

One of the clearest returns on investment for touch screen projects are in the areas of self service. Whether it is ordering food, selecting products, obtaining information, or  visualising alternatives, it can all be done quickly and efficiently on a touch screen kiosk thereby reducing the need to hire, train and pay staff members.

Touch screen technology is an effective tool for improving accessibility for people with disabilities. Users with impaired eyesight can zoom into digital signage, increase the size of text and images, and choose to have text read out loud. Similarly, those who find it difficult to use a mouse and keyboard might find a touch screen more usable. And our wheelchair accessible kiosks have been designed specifically with the input of health professionals to provide the best possible interactions for wheelchair users.

Many of our solutions are designed to be unattended or lightly attended, meaning that customers can interact with your business themselves with no (or little) staff interaction. And as our touch screens warranty covers 24 hours use, seven days a week for three years, you can be confident that  the solution will work well for you long term.

Touch screen monitors – with their flat bezel free designs and water and dust sealed screens – are easy to keep clean and sterile. This is really important in environments such as restaurants, hotels, hospitals and other healthcare settings.

Our touch screens have toughened glass that is built to withstand constant physical interaction. Whilst not vandal proof, in that it won’t resist a hammer, it is designed to withstand the normal uses in rugged environments and unattended applications that cannot be withstood by other input devices. In particular, our range of industrial touch screens work in harsh conditions and through gloved hands, providing your staff with an uninterrupted workflow in manufacturing environments.

At In Touch Screens, we are able to create modern touchscreen products to suit usage within any sector. We also understand that each business has specific objectives when procuring such technology, and seek to understand those goals to deliver what our clients need on top of the general benefits.

Touch screens are everywhere, and for good reason. This technology has made transactions, purchases, and inquiries faster and easier for everyone. But in these touchless times, is there still a place for touch screen technology in our everyday lives?

From avionics and heavy machinery to tablets and advanced automotive applications, touch screen technology has become an integral part of our everyday lives. They are found in fast-food restaurants and supermarkets, commercial centers and office buildings.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic has raised concerns about using touch screens. In this article, we touch on the benefits of this technology—and what both consumers and businesses can do to make using touch screen devices safer for everyone.

This is perhaps the greatest appeal of touch screens: using them comes intuitively to everyone. You don’t need to have a computer background to reach out and tap icons to get information, make a purchase, and other transactions. Because they are more visual than other devices, touch screens minimize errors. The fact that touch screen devices are so easy to operate is the reason it has become widely used in society today.

Because touch screens do not require a mouse or keyboard, they can accommodate users who may have hand disorders such as arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome. Touch screens can also help those who have speech difficulties avail of products and services that they need and enjoy.

From paying bills and buying movie tickets to purchasing a meal and withdrawing from an ATM, touch screens accelerate service in establishments around the world. They reduce queues and eliminate face-to-face contact.

While touch screens can help with physical distancing, your hand still comes in contact with the screen. We all know that hand hygiene is crucial to curbing the spread of COVID-19. Does this mean we’re supposed to stop using touch screens?

“Touchscreens are now in many places in UK society, so it’s often hard to avoid needing to use them,” Michael Head, a senior research fellow in global health at the
